I recieved an Email from "Runescape" - about 5 minutes ago, I figured it was just letting me know that my membership had expired but I found this:
Email Body

I avoided the link (ofc) and I went onto the real runescape website and went onto account management to see what I can find around there. No in-game messages/e.t.c
...Hovering over the URL shows "runescapeintro.oo-runescape.in(e.t.c...the legit stuff)"

I wonder which account I was trying to sell...

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Not out of the blue but when you change your email address they do.. I know a friend who was got by that at the same time he sent an email registration change and at the same time he was sent a phishing email based on a email registration change - entered his password and account name blah de blah you know the story - saved by his bank pin though.

Scammers are getting better and better at making phishing emails look real. As Monky said, JaGex will not email you out of the blue like that. If they need to contact a player, they use the internal message system.

Besides, if they thought you were selling your account they would simply ban it.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Jagex do email players now though, despite their policy on never emailing you. It should only ever be in response to an email or regarding their newsletter/email registration though.

Or they have new gadgets in their online store, or they are looking for betatesters, ...
The whole 'Jagex won't ever email you' is not true anymore.

Thanks for the heads up!

Let's stick with never enter your username and password anywhere besides the Runescape, FunOrb, or JaGex site then?

Nothing new, been getting scam emails like that for months. Even Jagex has even started emailing about Runescape updates too, I had one for the Fremennik Sagas the other week so much for them not emailing you anymore.

Yeah like they ban the bots - o wait
kidding but yeah jagex do email you now if you have your email registered but I don't think it would ever be an email like this regarding account security or anything, that's a typical scare tactic to get you to click the link like the antivirus virus (ironic?) I had recently that says I had a million trojans and to download totallynotakeyloggerhonest[Caution: Executable File] now or else my computer would explode with the force of a million suns. Anyways if jagex emails you legit or not just never click on a link obviously or just do what I do and never check your emails, ultimate safety! (or laziness but hey, I've never been hacked either way)

:wall: And if e-mail does become a very necessary thing, then register an e-mail that is not posted publicly anywhere. It will help filter out the spam.

Don't really see why a new thread is made every time some phisher changes the email contents despite the fact it is exactly the same scam when it comes down to it =/

Wasn't it you who said:

True, but there are far more dumb jerks in RS than most other communities. It has become spastic central.

source
Same scam, different style, people will still fall for it nonetheless. And you have such faith in most Runescapers clearly.

People are told a thousand times about fake emails and websites, if a dumb jerk is a dumb jerk who can't remember anything for more than 32 seconds, IMO they have no one to blame but themselves when their account is wiped for all it is worth.

It is always a nice courtesy to let others know about the different scams going about so everyone can stay informed. I thank the OP for this. I have not been scammed since I was a little noob back in 2002, but I am glad to see what scammers are doing so I have the knowledge and others do to. As G.I. Joe taught us all: "Knowing is half the battle".

Of course i didn't mean to criticise the OP, i just think that if the message hasn't been forced into someone's mind "DON'T CLICK THE [bleep]ING LINK", it is a pretty pointless thing to try and force it in any more >_>
