While I like the skilling options/improvements (instancing could cause lag though, not sure about that), there's a huge precedent that cities are mostly filler (see: Varrock, Falador, Ardougne, Seer's Village, Lunar Island, Rellekka). If the whole city had a purpose, it'd feel a bit too concentrated. One reason I really like dungeons like the Underground Pass is that it's pointless space, so you don't know whether it'll have any use later. That doesn't stop anything from being built, but there is only so much of the city (about the size of East Ardougne - Varrock is bigger). The whole elven area has that 'spacious' feel that I don't want to give up by stuffing it full of hotspots.

 

If we could put a continent behind the current city (north-west?), now that'd be nice, because you could put lots of resources there. The coastline past Prifddinas is only a placeholder anyway.

 

Looking at the map, I think there's one thing we can definitely do: put docks at the west coast, put charter ships there, put some nice fish there (except that c2 already wins, but okay). The coastline that arcs from Eagles' Peak to the coast north of the city could simply curve a bit further west and develop into a continent there. That would at least explain why we aren't able to sail from Rellekka to Port Tyras.

I was thinking that Prifddinas should be divided into 7 areas:

 

Area 1: The marketplace

Directly in the center of the city. Has elf traders that can be pickpocketed like dwarf traders, except 10-15k more xp/hour but worse loot. There would be a decently large bank where bonfires can be lit. I don't think there should be a GE. Save that for Menaphos. There should be representatives of each clan there. Think of the consortium in Keldagrim.

 

Area 2: The tower of voices

In the southwest corner, there will be the tower of voices. It'd be used in the quest and there'd be some NPCs to talk to (kinda like every castle). There should be an altar on the ground floor.

 

Area 3: Houses and shops
In the southeast corner, there will be a number of shops with houses upstairs. It would be mostly filler, with a crystal weapons shop.
 
Area 4: Industrial sector
In the northeast, there will be stairs leading to Prifddinas Underground. There will also be a pottery area, which would be the closest one to a bank. There'd be a forge, too.
 
Area 5: Crystal tree
In the northwest, there will be a crystal tree. It'd be significantly larger than the other crystal trees. It'd be in the middle of a large lake and reached by a crystal bridge. You could fish in the lake.
 
Area 6: Prifddinas Underground
Below the city, there'd be a mine with crystallized mithril (95) and adamant (97). The quest would teach you a spell like superheat that doesn't use any coal. There'd also be tunnels leading into the temple of light (dark beasts) and somewhere east of Arandar. There'd be random ore veins along the edges of these tunnels. Like for 15 minutes it'd be runite, then it could be iron, then it could be adamantite.
 
Area 7: Prifddinas Outskirts
Outside the city, there'd be farms to the north, with an allotment/herb patch and a crystal tree patch (seeds are pickpocketed from elf traders). There'd be a port to the west, with charter ships and some filler buildings/npcs.
 
Everything would be pretty open, so that skillers could talk to every other skiller, whether they're firemaking, woodcutting, fishing, thieving, or smithing.

I made a suggestion in my initial post that the elf city should reside partly on some of the waves of crystal that formed during the singing of the giant seed.

 

Also another good suggestion would be to use the crystal lantern idea for skiller plots. Maybe we could have places throughout the elven lands that. Offer us training plots. We could get crystalized mithril and adamant plots on top of the unpassable mountians. How about an elder spirit tree that can teleport us to all of the other elder trees?

 

I was also thinking of a cool little idea of the elven lands offering us a daily event similar to the red sandstone. Maybe we could be offered the opportunity to create 'manna' as food. It could be something slightly better than rocktail soup and have some other added effect?

To be honest, I had the idea that they had no clear path that they want to take with Invention, unlike with the Elf City =/

 

So without some general idea on where they want to head with Invention, idea's cant be sprung that easily

I have a general idea for Invention - http://forum.tip.it/topic/299446-q/?p=5471595.

 

Essentially, Slayer is a 'special combat technique' skill. It's currently mostly trained by assignments, which is fine I guess.

Dungeoneering is a 'special exploration' skill, so it's about finding new areas.

Inventing is a 'special skilling technique' skill. It unlocks recipes, methods etc.. For example, constructing a better Blast Furnace or whatever, or higher-tier weapons, or just a treatment process to harden runite to t60.

 

As for how it should be trained: you could do things similar to Slayer, where you make special items with various skills (say, rune goblin armour or whatever) - get tasks or ideas at various guildmasters perhaps. You could also have a more AFK option by doing research in libraries, similar to ivy. You can also redo things like Ancient Pages and Scarabite Notes to give Inventing xp (backwards compatible by awarding bonus xp). Plus that you can use a lot of the new things we learned in quests as tie-ins - rune guardians, the Wizard Tower basement library, Movario's notes on tormented demons, anything goes.

Here is a couple good examples of where they could be going...

 

Teleport tab cube

Cost:

12 rune glue, 1 teleport tab each, law staff and use of the alchemy box.

 

Alchemy box

Cost:

200 rune glue, 4 gold leaf, 4 mystic fire battlestaff, 1 nature staff, 4 magic logs

Begins with 100 charges. Used to combine items into more potent items. Can be recharged by charging it with divination energy.

 

Dragonfire handcannon

Cost:

Dwarven handcannon, dragon lump, dragon shard, dragon slice, 5 swamp lizards, 50 nature runes and use of the alchemy box.

Creates a level 80 two-handed ranged weapon using handcannon shot.

 

Basically just hairbrained concoctions that are very interesting, very cool and intriguing to game play.

First of all: 'harebrained' is apparently the correct spelling (the expression originates from having a hare's brain, not a hair-sized brain, though hair used to be a spelling variant of hare).

 

@Urza: it's far too early to get into specifics, but yes, that kind of recipes. Really quite simply, just like you need a certain slayer level to kill ganos, you need a certain inventing level to make a dragonfire cannon.

Because we are dealing with an "inventing" skill I think jagex could literally create and run this skill off of player made suggestions. Oh heck they could run player polls on popular player suggested inventions.

2/4 slayer rewards bought (first two helm upgrades), need about 1000 more slayer points :(.

 

Also hit the Loop, success on the island unlock and sent 400 terracotta from the Barmaid. First voyages today include 6 pearls and 6 koi, so let's hope those come in successfully :).

Thanks :).

 

Currently have rudder, one seafaring crew (level 7 yay - so many missions have a sf req) and about 1100 terracotta. Also at 80 pearls and 24 koi scales. Next up: getting terracotta merchants! The last scroll mission I need - if successful - should come in in ~10 hours.

 

I also bought premier membership with bonds (@7.2 each). Don't get any ideas about RS, I only bought it to stick around with you guys <3:!

Finished all scrolls, bought a second terracotta merchant and a sea fort guard. 30% to the Shield (that's about 6000 terracotta for 30%, or about 2500 for the last 10%, so hopefully at least 17500 to come in still, probably more).

I was a bit busy yesterday (with gaming, admittedly), but I did now!

 

I won't comment on the graphical design as that's very much not my area (and besides, it's the concepting stage, graphics aren't really at hand yet). Instead, benefits!

 

1) Some benefits should be permanent and usable in the outside world. Anything else is just not interesting to people who aren't going for max/200m.

2) Skill unlocks! When's the last time we got something new/useful for an existing skill?

3) Elf-themed would be best, which means crystal-related, magical and ranged/polearm-based.

 

Logical conclusion: ranged abilities, crystal halberd, improved crystal bow perhaps, spells/magic abilities.

 

As temporary boosts go, the two-hour benefits are probably good. Maybe it's best to aim for something people will do every now and then, but we have too many dailies already, so you could just make it repeating and stackable.

 

E.g. a 5-10 minute task that increases success chance while woodcutting by 50% (not % points, mind you) for two hours, and reduces tree dying chance as well. And this task stacks with itself. So the question becomes, do you want to do like, four of these tasks in 30 minutes and go woodcutting mage logs with 250% chance to get a log each try, for an hour and a half? For trees like pines, you'll eventually just get 100%, but higher-tier trees would really benefit.

Elves seem to make everything out of crystal, so flasks are practically required, but we don't want to devalue the existing flasks, and flasks are already pretty powerful (plus that I think that competition within glassware might be a bit impractical, contents are more relevant). Maybe elf crystal could simply be too expensive to use for anything consumable, leaving us with crystal weapons and armour, crystal tools, crystal signs and portents (which need recharging every now and then), crystal building supplies, crystal auras or familiars for all I care :P.

 

Also hit 530m overall xp during some slaying. Slayer is really pretty boring -.-.
