Low Levelled
I have noticed several of the players in the top 20 quit or are going to quit. Have they just had too much and are moving on with their lives? I can't imagine putting so much into this game, and then just quitting. I don't play a ton, but playing as much as it takes to reach the top 20 and then quitting just seems insane to me.

Drazhor
I'd say it would be a boredom factor, though people will come and go in them all the time! Also, I'd bring up a botting factor to some of the top 20 people; maybe they're quitting cause they don't want a ban? :P Visit my blog! Click the madness for more madness! Sir_Squab
Once you get like maxed skills, all the Nex items, DG rewards, comp cape, etc, there's very little left. Except maybe grinding castle wars for a trimmed comp cape. Then if you do that, there's REALLY nothing left. Sure, new updates, quests, but you might as well wait for Jagex to release a new skill, THEN do all the new content and max the new skill. Let it all add up first. Of course, at that point they might have just moved on with their life already. Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. Pinata
http://forum.tip.it/topic/303340-tipit-times-16th-october-2011-interview-with-elias/ Read the interview of Elias, could answer some of your questions. He was rank 1 for awhile overall and xp, and also the first to 3b xp. Although tbh I have a theory a lot of the top players come from wealthy families, they're all able to attend runefest, play rs for 10hrs+ and still have the cash to live off of. Lots of them have crazy comp set ups 2, like dual screens in stuff. Unless they RWT or have money trees, I think they're coming from wealthy families. Low Levelled
I've read the interview. Yeah I agree about the wealthy family theory. Technology is expensive. I also don't understand how people can play for as many hours as they do. My life doesn't permit me more than usually 2 hours a day.

Jagex provides some top players with all expenses paid tickets to RuneFest (that means transportation, accommodation, and the actual RuneFest ticket). And if a lot of these top players are simply young (which seems to be true in a lot of cases), they're likely not supporting themselves, but their families are supporting them. Two screens for a computer isn't honestly that expensive. It could be done for like.. $300 (or less). Having two screens is really common in the gaming community. And then RuneScape itself doesn't require a high-speced computer to run. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

I also don't understand how people can play for as many hours as they do. My life doesn't permit me more than usually 2 hours a day.Well it's not to hard, the only thing that would prevent hardcore playing is a job. I don't have a job, and full time college is 15 credits which is probably average 3-5hrs/day. I tend to sleep for 8-10 hours, so gives me 9 hours of free time. Now you take away school and you have 15hrs of free time, and some people only need 4-6hrs of sleep. I personally probably play RS average 4-6 hrs a day, and even more on the weekends, but I live by do what makes you happy, as long as its not harming others. I don't wanna turn out like my step dad, who is angry 24/7 because he hates his job. I'll admit though, its not the best ideal to live by, eventually I'll need to get a job (already owe $30,000 in student loans.) Pretty much though, its easy to have free time if you remove either school or job. If you have both, RS will probably just become a weekend thing. Not necessarily. I suppose all of that is correct, just reading Elias, and S U O M I's interviews, they seem like they don't have much to worry about, and Elias describing all these cross country trips. I suppose its just an interview. Their families seem nice too, or very lenient. Ik my parents would've never let me get away with 20hr days. Another screen is probably the most cost effective thing you can do to upgrade a computer, and the number of people realising this is going up. It's not just gaming, either, general productivity is improved drastically. After all, grinding away at armoured zombies is best done while browsing the internet or watching a film or a TV programme on the other monitor. To top it off, most computers and graphics cards have two monitor outputs as standard, so it's practically plug and play. ~ W ~
Crocefisso
I refer all to my theory of what motivates top players: http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?times=681 "Imagine yourself surrounded by the most horrible cripples and maniacs it is possible to conceive, and you may understand a little of my feelings with these grotesque caricatures of humanity about me." - H.G. hatebringer
Living on RS all day probably gets boring with 8+ hour binges of just pure grind for xp. I know I wouldnt do that even I was getting paid for it so maybe thats why they want to quit? just be done with constant grind and have fun? I actually still play for fun so thats just me. snake6man
I think that the reason the top players have been quitting recently is because of Jagex's recent updates that undermine their accomplishments. The new auras that boost experience and the pay 5 dollars, get a 10 percent boost in all skills for a week thing (refer a friend) for example. Being a high level or a top player used to mean you were dedicated, but now it just means you have cash and time to throw away into a game. It's not "cool" anymore. What are these "girls" you speak of? Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...
