I really don't get some of the features on more 'professional' image editors. Their select tool does pretty much nothing it actually says it does. Instead of selecting the actual image, it just makes a border around what I just did. I then go to move it, cause it looks selected, and it only moves the border. So I see a 'move' tool, I'm like that's obviously what I want, and I click 'selection' and when I move my selection, guess what, it moves the borders again. What the hell. Can't it be simple like paint and when I say SELECT it actually selects the image and not crap. Is it something with the layers?

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

Yes it is something with layers, switch to the layer which the image is on and then try to move it, remember to press 'Command' (US) or 'CTRL' (UK).

Don't switch to anything else, perisist with professional package you have at the moment and eventually you'll get good at it. Don't switch to something mediocre like Paint.net or GIMP because its easier.

I'm using GIMP, and there's only one layer :/, I'll try check out the layers though and try what you just suggested :)

CTRL means Control...like ALT means Alternate...and the one with the windows logo on means start menu.

Command is the clover leaf key on Macs.

Macs also have a control key, but it is different.

GIMP HELL YEAH

Speaking of which, I've been fighting with GIMP trying to edit a drawing for some time now. It appears that if I want it colored, I'll have to do so manually, because it's a lot harder to color with a mouse.

On a side note, I got my sketch of Space-age Theros done in Physics today. Now I need to add color and finalize lines and stuff. Unless you guys wanna see it in all its pencilly, B&W, unshaded, lined-paper glory. In which case I'll just scan it and upload it. And I LIKE using this many periods. BECAUSE I CAN.

(This is an experiment, to see if respect can drop at super lumial speeds =P)

Listened to the first 12 seconds. After that, I went "Wait, the artist was WHO?" and dropped it like a ton of lead.

And alright, Techy, I'll scan the pencil in too. Beware, it will look like crap, because I still haven't erased drawing guides and such yet.

Hey, I've been working on the game and I've hit a bit of snag: Research. At first I thought I could just use the same system that Albert used in his game but this conflicts with another system that I wanted to implement. I want to be able to be able to have consistent prices for researching technology but if they have some surplus money they can decrease the time while increasing the cost, if they have not enough money but are willing to spend some time researching then the cost would go down but the time would go up. I think the best system is 1 year = percentage of net profit.

Can somebody work out this system for me.

How about using a standard where lvl one reserarch is 1 million + 1 year, lvl 2 research is 2 million + 2 years or 1 million + 4 years or 4 million and 1 year. Basically it needs to take both time and money, but you can gain the same effect by altering the amount, but if one is halved, then the other must be doubled, leading to it actually costing 150% of the original price. If one is divided by three then the other must be multiplied be three, resulting in 166% of the original price. And if one value is divided by ten then the other is multiplied by ten, resulting in 505% of the original price and so on.

Then the price growth can be either linear or exponential. Starting tech level can be decided by how advanced the tech is.

Mmmm...

Wouldn't it be considerably simpler to have research cost X amount and you just have to pay for that amount?

Or go with the wonder system from my last hegemony, where you have to spend X amount, and wait Y amount of time.

Or go with a simple flat rate...spending more speeds it up slightly, underspending slows it down considerably.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Archi, that was what I was proposing, except I had a system for figguring out how to decide what spending less/going faster would require.

And I noticed a poor sub a minute ago while correcting the names of my Pokémon episodes in season 5. The episode is the Ice Cave (obviously, since that was the only banned episode in season 5):

This might be quite complicated but;

Like off Victoria, your country has like a literacy rating (or something like that) which increases with the more money you put into it and vice versa. There are planned researches, created by the moderator and non-original which have to be worked out before you can even start researching them, so that the moderator knows it's not OP. The education rate is like a % that decreases the time it takes for researching. So 60% education rate = 6% days off. I would say it could be referenced to population, but then it gets really effin complicated. Well anyway, this would allow people to play technological nations, instead of everyone pretty much being balanced down every route. Although now thinking about it, 10% off 10 days (which is already kinda long in research in hegemony) is only 1 day.

It's a system that needs working tbh.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

Yeah, the time of Glory system seemed good.

On the subject of 100 year research times...

You do a 100 year research period when your research is gamebreakingly overpowered...and if you designed a system which was based on how gamebreaking the technology was then it would work perfectly.

Something that provided a very small benefit would be fine for 5 years, while something that gave a significant advantage would take 20 years, and something that would basically win you the game would take 100 years.

Personally I see a system like that to be rather good, since if people want to plaster a big 'I am gonna win in 100 turns hahahahaha' on their forehead then people should kill them off...But, as Napoleonic Hegemony showed, if you plaster a 'Hahahahahaha I am going to win' badge over your chest, then people ignore you, protect you from anyone during your period of weakeness and then moan that you are too powerful at the end of it.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
