Or I could use it as a pitch to get my own computer back. I like to capitalize on things when I can, and I really, honest and truly, don't way a repeat of what got me into this mess.

A midi as in a midi (medium) tower, the most common shape of stationary computer.

So rather than 'Desktop' or 'Tower', two things that if you put them into a search engine would return useful results, you decided to choose Midi, or salesman jargon for Mini-Mid Ranged cases to go around a desktop PC...

Seriously, do a search before you actually repeat the stuff you heard in the store...In those scenarios there is supposedly an expert on hand to explain it, here there is not.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

A desktop is an often lying computer intended to go on top of your desk (hence desk-top) often unsuitable as anything other than office use, a tower could be any sort of standing stationary computer. A midi is the kind most suitable for gaming due to its small size compared to the larger variants, and its high potential compared to smaller variants and desktops.

And no, that is not just technical jargon I overheard someone say in an electronics store. That is lingo both used in the IT business and among other computer-competent people such as medium and hardcore gamers. Though it is understandable that you did not recognize it as most of you are casual gamers at best.

I am reasonably impressed.

Turns out that out of the dozen or so people I contacted* after you said something I wasn't sure on (midi) only one person gave any indication of something similar to what you said. (Person who sells computers, suprise, suprise)

Now, rather than a...person...of 18 years, these people hold varying degrees in education as well as being professionals who work in the gaming industry (Only one directly works at a gaming company, though others work in the computer industry generally). (The wonders of going to University)

I don't really want to bother them again, though I can't imagine any of them would say "Yeah, you know what makes a gaming computer? Size. It has to be really really small." Its just as nonsensical as anything else you ever say when your argument collapses around you...cobbled together like a blind shoemaker.

Now I make no claim to know where you get your information, it is entirely possible that 'Midi' is more well used in your circles than in my circles, for reasons of country, language and other stuff. However the broad consensus, that I can find, is that 'Midi' is a term that people use when they have an inadequate understanding of computers, to describe whatever computer they have, in order to make it sound like they have a cutting edge computer...

*Rather than shout 'I AM A HARDCORE GAMER' because I spend a lot of time playing games, I freely admit I am a Jack of All Traits, who looks at a game, solves the game, and then moves on. I am reasonably happy to play a game on medium or low graphics and tolerate it, rather than being able to see all the individual stitches on the armour of a guy two miles away, standing in a sea of other nameless soliders that I kill several seconds later.

Like Physics, Chemistry, and the like, I don't rely on my own interpretation, but ask a multitude of people who have a greater intellect than I, nominally who have proven themselves useful and self-cogent.

...I don't claim to have an encyclopedic knowledge of all subjects, but I know someone(or several) who has an encyclopedic knowledge of one subject, and so I ask them, they tell me, I do a little research to make sure it actually makes sense, and then I respond.

PS. Congrats Earth.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I like games, they're fun. ... That's really all there is too it, I thought. I think people who get really frigging upset ALL the time (Because I have raged over things in the past, and soemtimes a game just pisses you off. Not being able to skip cutscenes on a hellish final boss for example..) need to get their hearts checked. Games are meant to be challanging, yeah, but not rage inducing to the point of you foaming at the mouth..

My birthday dramatically went down the drain. Oh well.

Future note: If you know your grandparents are cheapskates, DON'T ACCEPT ANY ELECTRONICS from them.

Value the people, not the presents. The people might not last as long.

Alternatively, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

One of the reasons why the irish loved the things. They can survive a lot, (but not a crop disease) and still be edible and healthy for you.

So you asked people who work with computer software, but how many of them frequently open up and modify or assemble one?

And when did I state a gaming computer had to be a midi? I said midis were more suitable, not a requirement.

So you asked people who work with computer software, but how many of them frequently open up and modify or assemble one?

Most of them... Its a requirement of several of the courses, not to mention not knowing how computers, mechanically, work makes designing software far more tricky (Within reason, it is fairly easy to code and what not without knowledge of how computers work...gets harder when you are coding to use the hardware). Furthermore I don't know of any (Actually one) of them who would not be insulted to be told they were not a hardcore gamer.

Like I said before, its probably a case of different circles, and given that we have successfully proved no one knows what you were talking about, in the Tavern, the matter is effectively closed.

Don't use terms that only someone deeply stooped in the subject would understand...at least not without explaination.

In other news very nearly decapitated myself on a coffee table, so have taken to not wearing socks (Polished floors, huzzah) and now my feet are cold.
