Interesting point, though the costs outweigh the benefit since there are better methods to keeping your weight down. I learned something new today though #

78/80 scrolls in PoP.

9/9 Super September challenges so far. :P

Spent Thursday - Sunday at my parents which brings me to the thought of the day

Thought of the Day September 9, 2013: The saying, "distance makes the heart grow fonder" might seem like a cliche but is it? Justify your answer.

Well, there are two effects here. First is the tendency of people to flanderize memories, the second is the tendency to forget. The first means that people will make happy memories more perfect and bad memories more evil, aided by the second, through a process which involves loss of detail. We rely on regular updates to keep details fresh and defined, much like we require regular updates on contemporary language and day/night rhythms to stay sharp. So you could say that both 'distance makes the heart grow fonder' and 'out of sight, out of mind' are true.

Stop having the answer to every question, you make us look bad. :(.

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

Thought of the Day September 16, 2013: Why do highly intelligent people often have trouble understanding why people of average intelligence have trouble grasping concepts? Example: Someone with a 150+ IQ having difficulty understanding why someone else would struggle with Calculus.

Well, people of average intelligence have no idea why they have trouble either, do they?

I don't know why it's hard to explain why calculus is difficult. Intelligence is already difficult enough :P.

Well to them it is difficult to comprehend. I've met quite a few people who above average intelligence and they can't comprehend why people would struggle with subjects like Math (Calculus, Statistics, etc) and Science (Chemistry, Physics, etc). From what I've seen it seems that since it's so easy to them they overgeneralize and assume it should be easy for everyone ignoring the fact that their higher than normal intelligence makes the information easier to comprehend. Of course that could lead into why is it easier for people of above average intelligence to grasp these concepts. Is it societal interaction? Better teachers, more attention, etc or intrinsic? better problem solving skills, way of thinking, higher motivation etc

I was just using Calculus as an example. :P

77 Divination

Daemonheim Tasks completed, haven't collected any rewards yet.

1 medal in Fish Flingers from the Super September Challenge. Yeah, I'm that good at FF.

Rolled over 3 Oxheads and 2 Engineers in Ports. Did roll Combat and Seafaring captains with only 1 trait each. So having fun trying to get them levelled up. Mostly collecting various resources/lacquer for the Death Lotus hood since I maxed port score.

29K from 98 Herblore. Dun...Dun...

79 Divination, under 100K to 80.

Fallen to rank 105, kind of lost interest when I realized how hardcore people are about doing well on a seasonal high score. Plus, Farmyard Rampage is exp waste :P

Still hunting for lacquer, I have no trouble finding chi/plate but I can't seem to roll lacuqer. Might have to switch my totems just so I can finish the hood.

Thought of the Day September 27, 2013: Racism, how do we deal with it in an appropriate manner and work towards eliminating it? Note: If you say you're "color blind" you get slapped.

Well, you got to give it time. That's one.

You need to make jokes about it, that's two (note that's jokes about racism, not racist jokes).

Then you need to outlaw it, remove any references to particular 'races' from official laws, rules and regulations, and penalize any serious discrimination.

The difference is that fun is a general, but vague term, whereas efficiency is a more specific term but less broadly applicable. That is, in RS, efficiency is something that is fun, but not all fun is efficiency. Ideally, the efficient paths fall alongside other paths, making the choice between kinds of fun less difficult. Jagex just really sucks at that bit.

Alternatively, fun means different things for different people: our efficiency community has fun being efficient, their opposition might not. Problems come up when, like in the calculus example, one side doesn't consider that the other might treat 'fun' differently. This kind of thing comes up often in games with a degree of competition (at best) or elitism (at worst).

I think part of the reason why it comes up is that there isn't a right or wrong way to play the game, but there is one playstyle with measurable results. Would I be wrong in assuming that that's the one that many long-time veterans gravitate toward when they've done everything else?

Well you don't see too many low level metagamers unless they already have a maxed/completionist account. :P Although, the information that would be useful most new players would be unaware of or would not necessarily apply to them as efficiency normally focuses on higher levels.

EDIT: The reason I bring this up is because I was reminded of the DGS incidents awhile ago. More recently it has related to H&A or 200M all skills especially. From the posts I've seen here people seem to understand the difference but in the broader forum I fail to see why neither side could grasp the other side of the argument. In my opinion, it's because the definition of what is "efficient" is always defined by each side differently. It always seemed to me more of an argument between objective efficiency (reliance on math, statistics, research etc. aka metagaming) and subjective efficiency (how each individual feels is the best method). Obviously for some people the two coincide, they want the statistically proven method with the research to back it up. Whereas others, for whatever reason be it they find such methods too hard, too intensive, or boring or want to be able to feel "AFK" or engage in other activities at the same time. Then once you say the objectively efficient method isn't "fun" the whole statement becomes inflammatory and immediately makes people feel defensive. If you say a method is dumb/illogical you incite the same response, people feel defensive. While there were other issues that caused the mess it seemed like both sides basically overreacted trying to defend their point of view even though they're both right and all shall have prizes.

Of course, everyone who responded already understood that so it must be that this blog is only frequented by people with both IQ and EQ. #

EDIT2: This does have an interesting parallel to the current government shutdown in the USA.
