Na
Eep. Well, I've been kind of paranoid latley, the bible predicts (or something) that in the year 2012 theres going to be World War 3 (or the end of the world.) (Oh, and there was something where the bible was off by 6 years so... Lucky us, eh?) Osama Bin Laden just released his video tape, and it scares me because I live next to the 2nd biggest air base in the US. If they bomb the dams, then they'd take out the entire water supply for the S.W. United States. If anybody has any info or something, please tell me... I know its paranoid, but I really want to get out of the U.S. and go somewhere 'safe.' (Maybe the Swiss Alps? )

I'm a well-versed student in Apocalyptic prophecies in the Bible. Would you mind telling me just where it says 2012 is the end of the world? Christ himself said that "the day and hour is unknown." And trust me...when God takes down the world, no weapon of man can compare to his wrath. Also, most of the SW US gets its water from the underground aquifers (states like West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona). My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

hohto
If we took all these "end of the world" forecasts seriously, we should wait for it every day. Maybe I should party today, after all it might be the last day. I bet you got that 2012 from the maya culture's calendar. It says somewhat the following: at that year (don't remember if there was an exact date, too busy to google now) the world will go "through another port" and it will lead into something big. Basically that's the message. World takes one step ahead according to them. Personally I wouldn't be too scared of their forecast. WW3 might come in near future, tho. It has been really close few times (1962 and 2001 for example) and eventually it will start. I wrote an essay on it to my blog, shame it is in Finnish. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm

knives669
There is actually a website devoted to a man who was a supposed "time traveler". He claimed that he came from the future, and said that there was going to be a huge world war in 2016.... I think. Regardless of its validity, it's still a pretty interesting site. http://www.johntitor.com/

And it says that day will be the end of the world, when everything bad happens. It also says at sunset, I guess that would be the time in Mexico since that's where the theory came from. If I remember correctly the calendar just stops there...its possible the Mayans just didn't feel the need to go much farther in they got closer to that date. logic-is-overrated
Correct me if i'm wrong. The Mayans date of 2012 is not a prediction of the end of the world. It is supposedly when the beginning of a new "age" begins. An alignment of the planets that occurs every few thousand years is predicted to happen in 2012 and that is why their calendar stopped with it. This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.
knives669
What Wikipedia had to say: The turn of the great cycle is conjectured to have been of great significance to the Maya, but does not necessarily mark the end of the world. According to the Popol Vuh, a sacred book of the Maya, they were living in the fourth world. The Popol Vuh describes the first three worlds that the gods failed in making and the creation of the successful fourth world where men were placed. The Maya believed that the fourth world would end in catastrophe and the fifth and final world would be created that would signal the end of mankind. The last creation ended on a long count of 13.0.0.0.0. Another 13.0.0.0.0 will occur on December 21, 2012, and it has been discussed in many New Age articles and books that this will be the end of this creation or something else entirely. However, the Maya abbreviated their long counts to just the last five vigesimal places. There were an infinitely larger number of units that were usually not shown. When the larger units were shown (notably on a monument from Coba), it is expressed as 13.13.13.13.13.13.13.0.0.0.0, where the larger units are evidently supposed to be 13s in all larger places. In this age we are only approaching 0.0.0.0.0.0.13.0.0.0.0, and the larger places are nowhere near the 13s that would match the end of the last creation. This is confirmed by a date from Palenque, which projects forward in time to 1.0.0.0.0.0, which will occur on October 13, 4772. The Classic Period Maya obviously did not believe that the end of this age would occur in 2012. There will be a baktun ending in 2012, a significant event being the end of a 400 year period, but not the end of the age.
