Sledge
Now this is just out of hand. In p2p and f2p markets tons of people are trying to drive santa prices over 7m. And people are falling for it with all the people making fake trades. Santa's? Do they not know people have hundreds of these stored? Blarg.. What you all think of this? Btw for flamers, I have a santa. Retired Moriquendi StaffMori WebsiteMori ForumsMori Memberlist
Screwy
People want santa's to show their wealth, and getting your hands on one and wait for some months gets you some fast money to. Rares are merchanting stuff'
Sledge
There are so many of them is my point. Masks and phats can keep those high prices because there arnt as many of them. There are so many santa's out there I dont see how it can keep up when the santa horders sell because of this. swordwarior
if i didnt know any better i would say this migh be the going price soon, if not now. All the rares have been driven up but santas basicly and i think its time they go up. theres very well known merchants buying alot of santas up right now which leave me to believe there going to keep going up. Bubsa
Why are there more santas then masks, by the way? Was their a mass loss of masks in between the two drops? This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

Adam007
You're reacting like this is the first time you've seen santas be manipulated? It happens all the time really, and jagex doesn't do barely enough to counter it. Not that they can with how the forums are currently set up - but they could change the forums in a way to stop that problem entirely. I'd post about it, but it would take awhile, so unless someoen asks me to reply with how it would work, I won't bother. Anyway, posts on that forum have a lot of weight since it's so massively viewed, and people post fake trades so soem people can't tell what trades are real and which are fake. It messes everything up, but the manipulation does gets countered by the eventual compensation of prices falling a little back down and then stalling for awhile. It's too bad that it's so easily to manipulate. In a real life situation doing what they do lands you in jail.

My curiosity is piqued by this post. Bubsa, I believe the main reason there are so many more Santas then hween masks is that, from what I heard, there was a great influx of players and/or accounts between the two drops, and that people, seeing how masks where being sold for higher prices, began to horde up on santas with greater numbers than for phats or masks. Yes sword has a point merchants make the price of everything go up. But people forget there is only a limited supply of santa's. People can die somewhere and it be lost forever or quit rs with it still in their bank. Someday there will be only a few left. noobnoob
If you do not believe in investing in rare, don't do it. Go after them only if you believe in it. It is not a life or death issue as those stupid rare are only for show off and is not neccessary for any skill training or quest. bjbj1991
The noobs are nolonger able to afford phats anymore so they have moved to cheeper rares. Jagex does not care about it, heck most of the newer rules are to prevent jagex from being sued or keep them earning money. The future of the runescape economy with rares is that when you buy something 90% of the price goes to the very bottom merchant's phat In the future the hard working runescape citizen will work unbeleavibly hard to aquire his products and will sell to merchants Those merchants will then sell to a supper merchant so he can become a ultra merchant merchanting phats with other ultra merchants When a supper merchant gets enough matterials to become a ultra merchant he sells everything he owns for a hat, but first he manipulates the economey so he squeses every penney out of his stuff. The hard working man then buys back the stuff he worked hard to aquire in the first place at 200% intrest. Notes: only nocternal players and ultra merchants can own a phat supper merchants may sometimes use small rares like eggs and masks to earn money Zezima will still be playing when this happens but it is not known wether it will be on ebay or not The adverage lifespan of a player will be about 3-6 months. Half the population will be ether an autoer or mule for one. Jagex would have enslaved a large enough persentage of our minds that when they take over world none will stop us on our march! Sledge
Yar I know all rares get manipulated but ive never seen one of this scale in a short time first hand. When phats shoot up by 5-10m people rarely say boo but a 500k-1m increase in a day for santa's is quite alot. I think bjbj1991's first statement is very true and probably plays a huge role in the increase of all the smaller rares. As expected a short time after the manipulation began flocks of santa horders came in an brought the price down. I really do think topics like this stop manipulation spree's because all the horders who see this would likely get down there and sell for less. It only takes 1 Horder to bring down a manipulation sometimes. Retired Moriquendi StaffMori WebsiteMori ForumsMori Memberlist

Duke_Freedom
Hmm. People are comparing price manipulation too oftenly with predicted and expected natural rises these days. Nowadays it seems that every time a rare rises, people will say that it is caused by price manipulation... I don't deny that price manipulation is problem... How could I? I was the first to point out that it's a huge problem RuneScape's economy. However, what I see is that people are focussing way too much on the price manipulation aspect of rares and, IMO, are exaggerating it's importance. You should not forget that it's a fact that rares will always go up on the long-term, with or without price manipulation. On the long-term, the effects of price manipulation are pretty unimportant. Price manipulation was definately not the cause of the recent rises in both masks, santas and small unwearables. The value of my bank at its height. You said unwearables, right? I don't see a rise in prices from pumpkins, easters, disks or wines... Is it normal that pumpkins and easters very low in price are? I mean are they ever going to raise to 10 mill or so?

You said unwearables, right? I don't see a rise in prices from pumpkins, easters, disks or wines... Look again. Easters and pumpkins surely increased a bit. The fact that they went up slightly as well shows even more that the recent rises were natural, to a certain extent at least. The tough part about rises is determining when it's not natural anymore, but solely based on price manipulation. The value of my bank at its height. I'm nowhere near as knowledgable as Duke in this field, but I would estimate that wearable rares are more valuable because you can actually show people you have them all the time (without trading). ~Ian Retired Tip It Moderator | Zybez Radio DJ - Listen Here
