knives669
The former Serbian president had been on trial on 66 charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes during the bloody disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s That's quite a rap sheet.

Mercifull
Quite annoying that after all these years trying to get the case heard, justice now cant be done. 1_man_army
Im not saddened that he died but I feel for the families of those he had killed as they'll never have the justice that they deserve. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
Bubsa
Quite annoying that after all these years trying to get the case heard, justice now cant be done. Very true...well officially justice can't be done. I don't think though that we needed a guilty verdict on him to ridicule and brand him evil. I'd say the most annoying thing over his death is that he's escaping from having to live with what he has done. He may be dead, but his legacy will live on for generations. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
jak722
Who can say they're really surprised about this happening... :? His death kinda reminds me of Herman Goering's. Its too... similar... (man... I should stop playing MGS again...) The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. Hannibal
Who can say they're really surprised about this happening... :? His death kinda reminds me of Herman Goering's. Its too... similar... (man... I should stop playing MGS again...) Er? IIRC Goering hung himself in his cell or something - Milosevic died a natural death. ~edit Checking my facts, he committed suicide using cyanide. Point stands. And to add to that, he committed suicide just before his sentence was supposed to be carried out. Milosevic hasn't even been sentenced, so officially he's still innocent (though I think he's guilty and should have gotten life in prison if he had remained alive long enough). ~end edit I also like how some news sites really make it a done deal that he was guilty and an [wagon] (ie, CNN with its "Butcher of the Balkan") and other sites are much better about it saying that the "former president of Yugoslavia, Slobodan Milosevic, accused of...". Not that I don't believe he's guilty - but it annoys me how incredibly biased and sensationalist the media are sometimes.
Hannibal
I'm just putting this in another reply, but the CNN article is terrible. ~ Another edit: The CNN article is terrible. Just a few important things that are either left out or blatantly wrong: * This Tomanovic guy is not exactly his only lawyer. Milosevic was legally representing himself, by choice, until the tribunal forced two lawyers to take over because he was too ill to go to trial, and it was holding up the case. The court-appointed lawyers tried to resign at one point, since Milosevic didn't want anything to do with them, but the court forced them to continue trying. * He did not plea non-guilty. He repeatedly condemned the court and said it did not have the authority to indict or try (sp?) him, and as he refused to plea anything, the court officials noted down a not guilty plea, which he in fact didn't make. * His death didn't come "Just a few months shy of the completion of the trial". That is just pure speculation, as nobody knows how long the trial would have dragged on had he survived. It should have been done years ago. * As for the tribunal 'killing him', to be honest, the guy had to his disposal: > A gym > Serbian television > His own courtyard > Apparently other luxuries, which I can't check anymore because the BBC revised their article... He was also examined by medical staff when he or his lawyers requested, and his request to be treated in Russia was under appeal. I'm pretty sure he would have been able to get the same treatment in Holland (it's not as if Europe has lesser medical technology then Russia, quite the contrary I think), so it beats me why he didn't want that. He was told to keep rest, and if he didn't do that, then that's not anyone's fault but his own. Lastly, he had been under permanent surveillance earlier (as in, 24-hour camera), but this surveillance was removed on his own request (he actually had to ask the court and file a request and whatnot, and in the end the court decided it could be taken away). Surely you can't blame the tribunal that way that they didn't find out he was dead until the next morning...

Slobodan Milosevic = Found dead in his cell by natural causes just weeks before his defence would wrap up and the court to decide a verdict on his charges of crimes against humanity. I didn't say it was the same... I just said it REMINDED me of Herman Goering cuz some things about his case are similar. Not the SAME, but just SIMILAR. I mean, I just commented on the topic... buttmunch
Why are you so quick to judge him as evil? He only tried to hold the country together after Tito. You can't really say he was the only guy in Yugoslavia responsible for needless deaths left and right. If anything he was more of a scape goat while important generals are still hidden by the people. Necromagus
I guess it saves the trouble of another few years of trial but like the others said, it's a shame that there's no conviction to go down in the history books with him. Furthermore, his nationalistic supporters now have more of a martyr than they had before. Even if the toxocology report shows no results, he'll still go down as an innocent man assassinated by the evil west. Still, the Croatia vs. Serbia case should dredge up plenty of details on the conflict, considering that Croatia probably has plenty of documentation on Serbia's involvement in the pre-war conflicts in Yugoslavia.
