I have a main account thats level 84 (not very high I know but its got some good skills) and today I began a second account to mess on with...in the first day I have had 2 players that are higher levels(slightly) call me a noob...one just ran past me and said noob when I asked him if he meant me he replied with "no the tree lol noob" however the first one was corrected by my main 8) oh now thats fun they soon shut up...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway I'd like to know why do people do this? is it the age and mentality of many players? or is it the fashionableness of the word noob, little 10 year old lads running round calling anyone noobs, why? I can think of much better things to do with your time! I dare them to go up to a lad in the street and call him a t**t....wonder how funny they find a broken nose

Really, this is not a hard thing to explain. The whole essence of the "noob-calling" lies within the insecurity of certain people, these people can generally be a bit younger but far from always.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's a naturally thing for many, that are a bit unsure as where they stand in their imaginary ranking scale, to run down the ones of a lesser

 

 

 

combat/skill level. I have never felt the need for calling others "Noob" or "newb" and such, but when i was cb 30 i couldn't wait until i got to 40 so that i may look upon the likes of me at that time and feel that "I am better".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

blakdragon is partially right when he says that "it makes them feel better". Yes when they feel capable of calling someone else a noob it heightens them above the one refered to as noob. We, who consider ourselves to be above that sort of thing, look upon these people with almost the same feeling as they do towards the ones they call "noobs".

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hence the one calling someone else "noob" is in our eyes a "noob". They are not worth a piece of your mind, they are infact not worth much at all in my oppinion. People who lessens others selfesteem are, in my eyes, not worth the air they are breathing.

They call other people "noobs" because they're just mentally challenged and have no manners for other people whatsoever. Perhaps their mamas didn't teach them any manners either.

On my nearly 4 months playing Runescape I have never called anyone a noob, I find it to be immature and mostly idiotic. I also think people use the term too loosly. I can understnad if someone tries to scam you, but just saying it to someone while passing by...pathetic.

They are mentally insane. Why on earth call someone a noob just because he is low level? YOu only have to right to be called a noob if you do something stupid.

Just right now I logged in Varrock to cut yews and this lvl 74 (I'm 71) called me "Hi noob" I was like "???"

 

 

 

But people who call other people noobs for no reason are just little kids. On the net they can call anyone they want to without getting into trouble. I only call someone else noob if they beg, bug me, or insulted me.

Noob or No Noob it's all just a game. In the grand scheme of things it matters little, and after you finish playing the game who would really care. It's immature but really who being young isn't at some time? All in all it's no big deal and we have to remember that we are still talking about a MMORPG and not real life. :wink:

I had a similar encounter. I was fighting a highway man. (I was bored and he was there). Someone came up and said "run." I said "No, I wanted to fight him." Understand I'm only a level 28 (I was 26 at the time) but defeating a level five highway man was not a problem. When I didn't run away and let her "play hero" by saving me from the big bad level five she simply said "noob" and was on her way.

It's funny... I'm lvl 91... and sometimes when i run past someone i'll call em a noob, not really as an insult... but more of a joke for me to see them fire up over being called a 'noob'.... so simple.. gotta get my kicks somehow...

Heh, whenever I get called a noob I just respond "Hell yeah, I'm a super noob!"... shuts them up pretty quickly.

No, I haven't. Never have, never will. And I wasn't whining, I was stating an occurence. It didn't scar me for life or chase me away from the game, it just happened.

i suppose people say "noob" coz so many other words are blocked out. I also dont c why a 4 letter word bothers you to be honest

well i dont call low levels noobs unless they are doing absolutly stupid stuf(like asking to buy the mage armor i'm wearing for 100gp when it is actually full rune armor or asking me to take them to fally when they are in fally) i call high level people noobs often for example i was in the al kaharaid palace fighting gaurds when some lv 90 kept on killing the gaurds i attacked when he was more than triple my level(if a low level does it then i just say get your own gaurd. or when they try scamming me.

It is most unbecoming for a Gaurdian of Avalon to smear at others, Instead I look at these individuals as an oportunity to give back to the runescape community and make these "newies" welcome to this fair land. :roll:

I have called pople noobs before i don't make it a job just to go around and have a bunch of laughs.
