What I don't like? The neds. No, not nerds..... neds. Stands for non-educated-delinquents. I know, quite a mouthful. A bit like chavs. Oh, and I like fish and chips. More of an english meal, though... I prefer sushi. :D

Edit: And no, Scotsmen don't always wear kilts, we don't ever, I repeat, EVER, say "Och, aye, the noo." And we only eat haggis on a Burns night. Rabby (Robert) Burns, famous poet. "Tae A Mouse" I love that one.

Edit 2:And no again, a haggis isn't a little creature that runs round mountains.

Writing in colour was fun while it lasted...

The Tip.It. Furry! :D HappyWolf.png

i realize UK doesnt equal GB, but they are close are they not?

It's basically the same, except that Great Britain doesn't include Northern Ireland like the United Kingdom does.

Like: The high quality of life.

Dislike: The way we seem to get ripped off on things, like petrol prices for example.

we don't ever, I repeat, EVER, say "Och, aye, the noo."

I dunno about people in Glasgow, but I say it all the time  - athough it's more like "Och aye, Jock Mackay" :P

Actually, seeing as we're on the topic of Scots dialect, Phil: would you say that this little snippet of my English coursework is accurate? :P

*snip*

accurate of most scottish people? no. Although there are poeple who talk in Scots about. I know a few myself. In your coursework I could just understand what they were talking about but a few words there just go straight over my head. Pretty heavy stuff for a non-scottish person to understand though.

Btw Scots isn't a dialect, it's a language.

Scots is as much a dialect of English as English is a dialect of Scots. Meaning they both developed in their own ways. (I'm watching a series about the Scots language on the tv. atm, interesting stuff.) :P

Big things; Football (NOT SOCCER!), Pub life, casual showers 60% of the time, clubbing, Reality tv shows, a lot of american influences, crude slang/accents 99% of the country (rest posh), old people swarming quite seaside towns.. Chavs/scals/manc's (scum of the country), politics, Great cars (we have good cars), Fit women, Fish and Chips(Fries) (all basic fast foods, chinese, indian etc).. Pop music, BAADD RAP (don't even listen to any, some brits don't even know how to.. Dizzy Rascal is said to be great but seriously he embaresses us.), emo's, films.. Etc..

Look main places, the difference between London'ers, Liverpool, Lake District.. Don't go for a stereotype view, I've never met a posh person in my life, only old people like tea and biscuits, and not many people love the queen, I couldn't give a rats a rse about her. A lot of americans are patriotic, but we aren't, a lot of us are just living to live, not to serve..

Everything else would be almost Identical to what you americans know of.. Is why we get on so well

What? I can't talk for England but most Scottish people I know are proud of their country, call it "patriotic" if you like. Being patriotic doesn't mean you have to serve your country.

woah steady there, im not insulting anyone, im speaking from opinion about people I know in England, not Scotland  When I mean serve, I mean a lot of countries go to war because they believe they're fighting for their country. Like I see a lot of Americans doing, or is that just a stereotype view??

I know what patriotic means :) just don't believe I, or anyone I've ever met has ever 'loved one's country'. I didn't know I was insinuating that a patriotic person was someone who though they have to serve they're country.

I'm no from GB but I had a dream I was in london once.

"Walking down a dark ally and someone pulled me into a room. Once I got into the room is was really nice. Lots of shower curtains and alot of feet under the curtains. Then I walk into one and there is a toilet. I said I thought they pooped on the streets and my friend said "this is a secret place". So I sit down on one of the cans and look at the opposite wall in the stall and it has cigerettes on shelves, hundreds of boxes, and a sign that said $0.50 per pack. And a little box to put the cash in." Then I woke up. Are there really coed comunity bathrooms like that? And how much do ur pack of cigs really cost.

compared to the rest of the uk we're very unpatriotic, and with good reason. i hate living in this festering crap heap. can't wait to leave to tell you the truth.

Irish have St Patricks day with celebrations in the street. All we really have to celebrate is new years eve (mahogmany to you), and its just like an amplified saturday night really..

What's with everyone citing the less obese women? Thin women? Check out Korean/Japan... Maybe Taiwan...

Things I liked:

1. The architecture.

True, The cathedrals and castles of England pale in comparison to some other European countries but they are still magnificent...

2. The history/museums.

In the British museums, the art and culture of almost every civilization is represented in one fashion or another.(Mostly because of the Empirical days...)

3. The pubs.

They're actually pretty friendly... The atmosphere is light and gentle...

Things I did not like.

1. The people...

Londoners seem OK but when you move towards the country the people out there are literal hooligans... What happened to the English Gentleman?

2. The weather.

Wet. Very very wet. During my 4 months stay there I scarcly ever saw sunlight... And then there's the fog/smog.

3. The food.

There aren't too many original English dishes. Yes, I did find the fish & chips delightful(I found the wally to be a surprise) but other than that and the roast... There wasn't much else to eat(Excluding Italian, French and other relativley foreign foods... Although I have to say that I enjoyed and ate my first kebab with great relish... Kebabs OWN burgers...).

I never said you were insulting anyone. You should have also made it clearer you were talking about England and not Britain (which was asked for in the original post)

I didn't know I was insinuating that a patriotic person was someone who though they have to serve they're country.

Well what am I meant to think when you put the two together in your previous post ... "A lot of americans are patriotic, but we aren't, a lot of us are just living to live, not to serve.."
