this was a good article, im suprised they spent 3 years researching runescape, lol. they do however bring up a good point, mmorpgs are like a fantasy life that one can get lost in. I know that i cant sit around and play grand theft auto for ten hours on my day off, great game, but it does get old after a bit. but getting into a fantasy world can like this, time flys by and you dont realize you've been on all day long. I noticed that they where mainly basing the article off teenagers and youngens playing the game, but there is acually adults that play the game as well :D I being one of them, some that i talk to and find out that i am older seem shocked that older people play. some asked me once how in the world did you get into a kiddy game like this. well I dont really find it to be a kiddy game, ive always been all about role playing i played d&d back in the day, with paper and dice, hehe. the skill building is very attractive in this game as well. in other larger more graphically based mmorpgs you cant go out and fish for your food and get experience for fishing. alot of them all you can do it go out and fight and once you go up a level then you can put your experience points in whatever skills you want to raise, which can over some time get boring. but the servers are down for an update, :P thats my 2 cents.

Indeed. For some of us adult gamers, this is just another extension of stuff we've done for years, whether it be rolling the multisided die, playing online, LARP, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I played MUDs for about 6 years in college, about up to the time Everquest first was released. MMORPGs were just a new name for graphical MUDs.
