Priority of Items?

Note - This might have been put in the General Forum, but it involves member's items, so I thought here might be more appropiate.

When I say priority, I mean the hierachy of items that are kept when you die... If lost you will understand in a second.

I recently died without a skull, and instead of keeping my obby cape, obby shield and 2.8mill I was carrying (I know you can't keep stacked items, but maybe they should change this too?), I kept my rune plate, rune legs and dragon battle axe. Now at the time I died, if I had kept the items I wanted to keep, I would have 3.8mill in items and gp roughly. However, the fact that I kept the unwanted items (not unwanted, but you know what I mean), means that I was left with only 300k in items. This was quite annoying.

I was just wondering whether Jagex should attempt to change the priority of items to match the prices on the street of RS.

street prices change daily if not hourly and vary form world to world, and place to place, so it would be imposible to track all the prices. ie if someone really needs say a ball of wool for a quest and is offerin 10k for it does it mean it should protect over ... a rune dagger say.Its nearly impossible to say which items are worth more at any givan time

[hide=Drops]

  • Dragon Axe x11
    Berserker Ring x9
    Warrior Ring x8
    Seercull
    Dragon Med
Dragon Boots x4 - all less then 30 kc
    Godsword Shard (bandos)
    Granite Maul x 3

Solo only - doesn't include barrows[/hide][hide=Stats]

thats way to hard for them because the street prices keep changing so they have to keep changing that too and i'm sure they wont do that

I was once at the airport with my friends in California, had to go "potty" really bad, and just pissed my pants in the middle of the terminal. (All the cool kids piss in their pants, right?)

I don't think so.

Players decide the intrinsic value of those items. Obsidian is weaker than rune, so rune protects over it. An argument could be made about how the scimitar protects over whip, but that is another topic.

You have to strategize. Always be prepared to die.

Thanks for coments guys.

Of course they can't monitor street prices what with all the changing, but just a basic hierachy system to avoid people loosing their best stuff.

I'm not sure if this is true... but rune would probably be saved instead of a party hat... and what if your computer laggs when you have a random? You have just lost alot of money.

Funnily enough, I was thinking about this when I read that Guthans Plate protects over Guthans Spear and a few other frustrating examples like d long over whip. Obviously as stated above Jagex can't be expected to change things in line with market price and in addition a lot of players will have personal opinions as to what they would prefer to keep.

So my solution to this is simple - let the player decide for themselves: When you are wearing and carrying items there could be a very small icon, or a slightly shaded background (with priority set 1-4) which indicates the order in which items will be protected in the event that misfortune should occur and you die. By default this would be set as it is currently - according to store value - so as if you forget to change priority you still keep things. But when you are venturing into dangerous territory you can self-select the items that you hold most dear...

Not sure what others feel - would this work?

and for ur point voer stacking items, current system is fair

To give the game context version:

When you die the gods see fit to save 3 iduvidual items for you

A stack of 2.8mil coins may only take up 1 invetory slot, but they are still 2.8mil iduvidual coins.

Hence if u die with juts that (non skulled) you keep 3 iduvidual items aka 3 coins

Perfect... A little bit of hassle but it will save millions (in the case of phats, hundreds of millions) in the long run.

Don't be cheap and go buy a ring of life.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

how proirity is determined is by using the shop price of an item, NOT THE STREET PRICE. So if you died in wildy with full rune and a partyhat, the legs, plate, and sheild of the full rune would protect over the party hat (partyhats are worth 2gp in shop lol)

Not sure what others feel - would this work?

It might work, but it would screw up the economy. Am I talking crazy? No. Think about this:

Why is guthan's spear more than his top? Because you keep the top over the spear when you die, causing the demand for the spear to increase. If you could pick what you held, then all the barrows pieces would become the same value (exceptions to this would be pieces used individually, usually for looks, or max def boost.)

Even worse than this would be the whip. Whip prices are dropping rapidly, and the only reason that they are the price that they are is because of people losing their whips when they died. If we could choose to keep whip over other stuff, then people would only have to buy one whip as opposed to two or three (due to careless error) causing the price on whips to greatly drop. Whips would go from 3m-ish to 1m-ish. Why do you think obby capes are 300k? Because they don't protect over other items. A rune plate is much more helpful than an obby cape, and if an obby cape would protect over it, then I'm guessing the price on that would drop to around 50k. Don't even get me started on phats.

The only way that I would support this idea is if you could only change the price on certain objects, like the lava cape, but not all of them.

Thank you for reading this, prices are estimates, and my spelling sucks, and I admit it.

Personally I think that they should make it that you can set the priority of the items you have in your inventory at the time. Stacked items you would still loose because that would be totally unfair. It would prevent people from tricking other by giving them mystic tops and then koing them, and pking would still be possible because most of the whip drops people get are from when they ko the person.

No, they compared it to the granite shield. Compare an obsidian shield to a rune kite. The only way in which obsidian is better is in ranged bonus and the strength bonus. Statwise, it is still inferior.
