Poll of the world

I found this on yahoo and found it really funny. Here's the link if you want to view the actual webpage, (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060520/ts ... etyoffbeat) but I've already copy-pasted it for you.

French are rudest, most boring people on earth: British poll

The French have been voted the world's most unfriendly nation by a landslide in a new British poll published. They were also voted the most boring and most ungenerous.

A decisive 46 percent of the 6,000 people surveyed by travellers' website Where Are You Now (WAYN) said the French were the most unfriendly nation people on the planet, British newspapers reported.

The Germans have no to reason to celebrate the damning verdict. They came second on all three counts.

WAYN's French founder, Jerome Touze, told the papers he had been stunned by the thumping condemnation of his compatriots and sought to blame it on Gallic love-struck sulking.

"I had no idea that the French would emerge as such an unfriendly country," he said.

"I think our romantic 'moodiness' is misunderstood and I will be sure to pass on the message to my family and friends back in France to be a bit more cheerful to tourists in the future."

Italy was voted the world's most cultured nation with the best cuisine, while the United States was named the most unstylish with the worst food.

The British did not feature in the top 10 of any of the categories.

"The British fit in nowhere -- good or bad. It appears that we are so completely average that the voters did not include us in any category," the tabloid Daily Express commented.

"And to our shame, four percent of respondents -- all British of course -- said they would only talk to other Britons when they are abroad."

This unwillingness to talk to the locals appears to go hand in hand with respondents' perceptions of foreigners.

While most said Spain was the foreign country where they would most like to live, they said the Spaniards were nearly as unfriendly and ungenerous as the French.

To add insult to injury, British newspaper The Daily Telegraph put the boot in on Saturday by saying in an editorial that the French stank.

"The French may like to think that Chanel No 5 is their scent but we all know that garlic and stale Gitanes are much more representative."

Comments anyone? Experiences? Just found this article pretty funny.

I'm currently transitioning from a Wizard to a Mage and a Priest to an Archpriest. Lol both are nonexistant in the top 25. Hopefully I can change that. :D

A British poll slagging off the French and the Germans?

About as predictable as an episode of The O.C

Just what I was thinking.

Come on people, Britons have a natural dislike for French(the most of 'em do)

I don't think there is one most rude ore one most culturally developed country. It's just people's perception of cultures.

ya, it's BRITISH, what did you expect...

hate the french and despise the germans (stereotype right there, i know)

edit: il lived with a french family. they lived in a rural area and just moved to that house, meaning: construction etc still going on, they had several animals ( horse, rabiits, cats, etc), made their own wine and did NOT stink at all. i enjoyed staying with them, they were really friendly. maybe not superficial friendly like american but if you cant handle a direct comment, learn to live with it. im that way too.

the food was awesome and different. my hostma made the best crepes ever.. i miss them

and im staying with an american family right now, they are really friendly too ( not my last hotfamily but anyway). what is true: although the food tastes different, most of it has the same aftertaste and for some reason everything has more calories. im serious, an instantfood that would have 150 in europe has 220 here... why? i dont know.

Hmm, French people can be quite arrogant, but that's because they're so darn stubborn and obnoxious. If you've ever been to a former sovjet union state, you'll praise the French for their warm welcomes and generosity. Seriously, the only 4 countries the Brittish know are Italy, France, Spain and the US. I've encountered so many Brittish people that didn't even know 'what' Belgium was  Even though it's 50 miles southeast of London, some simply don't know it. It doesn't surprise me one bit that these are the results. Silly sods.

How is that a 'Poll of the World' when it's a British Poll? Talk about bias :?

Because it's polling different people's feelings about COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. IT'S A POLL. Thus, it's a poll of the world.

Yes, the results are by Britain but where does it say it got the results from? From a travel company.

Now don't just throw out the results because they're by a British company. Maybe they're right. Honestly, I've never been to Europe so I wouldn't know. But, again, don't just dismiss them because of the person. That's the ad-hominem logical fallacy. :)

1 - I despise France... Don't ask...

2 - My grandmother is German and good lord is she scary... Lol...

3 - America does have the worst food. Because of this, we usually have some other countries food for dinner...

Oh, a little comment to defend the Americans and their food:

I myself am Belgian and Belgians are known for their haute-cuisine. I've been to the US three times and every time I go to a decent restaurant in the bigger cities (expensive as it may be), the food is always excellent. You just don't compare a country to what people think it is. Europeans often seem to think America is all about hamburgers and coke. That's like saying all Brittish ppl have a posh accent and feel superior to the rest of the world.

Perhaps a lot of junkfood is from the US, but they also definately have taste, if you're prepared to pay for it :)

Ach, people are people. In any country in the world, you'll find human beings and it's preeeeetty likely that they'll all be fairly similar.

I love languages.

First. You're wrong

Second. I think it would be xenophobia anyway(checked wikipedia but couldn't find anything so that is my guess)

Third. Im not particularly suprised by the results myself. Probably not true though.

Um, where did this 'feel superior to the rest of the world' thing come from? I know the USA tends to throw that around, but I've never come across that in regards to an English person :-?

Anyhow, I agree with ShadFaxPZ, America has no cuisine they can honestly call their own :-?

Sorry, interesting article, but I think we can all agree that a post dedicated to bashing one another's countries is not a good one, and will most likely result in flaming coming from several directions.

Spread the love!
