RuneScape: 4th biggest game in the world. o.O

Featured Replies

Howdy everyone. I haven't played RS now for 2 years, but I saw this on the World of Warcraft general forums and figured everyone would think it was cool information. I personally didn't think RuneScape was this big...I knew it was pretty big, but bigger than Everquest? EQ2? That's pretty big. I would have guessed it was mostly WoW, then EQ2, then EQ, then other games, and RuneScape would be towards the BOTTOM, but alas, I am wrong..Infact, EQ is bigger than EQ2! Didn't see that coming..

I know this information looks like a toddler made it, but it is factual as far as I know of.

Was also surprised WoW had SO much. I mean I know they have 6.5 Million players, but jeebus, over 50%?

Glad to see RuneScape is still competing, I guess. I have a seething hatred for this game, but when I think back on the fun times, it almost makes me want to play again....Almost. I'm not crazy. :P

Have fun guys, go go WoW. :P

Get a level 123, then say it's not boring and is the greatest game ever. :P I had fun while it lasted, but I got tired of updates being "Hey hey, new quest suited for level 50's with a reward that isn't even an upgrade for them!"

It's fun for what it is, but when you play WoW (if you haven't yet) it makes you not want to look back. Ever. :P

Also that is just counting members too...

And theres a ton more f2per then members probably

Theres about 2 million people playing altogether, theres probably 1 million members at most too

well today at 11:30 am 14 years ago i was born.. wo0t!!!
At 11:30 you should start holding your head underwater wo0t!!!
Stop acting such a moron.

Actually, it's the 5th largest.

You'll notice Ragnorak Online is missing from the chart...

monotonesiguv2.png

Also notice on the line chart in particular how the others all seem to have peaks and troughs and at present are dropping seemingly

While WoW's rapid growth seems to be leveling off and the rs line continues steady growth

Knew rs was kinda big, but if this graph shows trends that could occur for the futrue could it be that the 2 between rs and WoW are gonna lsoe alot of members and that WoW will stop growing while Rs slowly comes from behind?

Exactly.

There are a LOT of games not on the chart, if they're not on there, they don't own anything over .6%. Also, there is an "all others" listed at 3.5% for those "other" games.

Paw_Claw, I'm not sure you're reading that graph correctly. WoW's growth has not stopped and probably will not stop for some time. It's a huuuuuge name in MMO's and it gets bigger. Even people you wouldn't expect to play MMO's are playing it. Preppy popular kids, you know. Because it's "cool".

I blame it's history as a great game series, Blizzard's track record with great games, and lastly, the graphics. The graphics are like nothing else in any other games, they don't try to look "real", which is refreshing. Trying to make things look "real" often makes the graphics look like crappy PS1-days graphics, which turns me away. If I can't stand to look at it, I can't play it of course.

Warhammer Online has similarly awesome graphics like WoW, and a good track record company behind it, PLUS it's made-out to be a huge, great PvP game from the DoAC (arguably the best PvP game ever made, some say) team. I expect it to get over 1 million subscribers, some from WoW, even, who are sick of WoW's lame PvP. I may be one of them, only time will tell.

I did read it right

I said it seems to be levelling off

It you look at every point after it surpasses the yellow line it is getting less and less steep, particularly on the last 'segment'

I am not saying this means its growth will stop ne time soon, but this trend seems to show an end to its hyper growth atleast

From the looks of it this is subscribed members only...so add about 10 percentage points to that chart

Or not.

It's "most subscribed", not "most played with auto's and F2P".

as a f2p.. i would have voted too.. best game ever! :D long-live rs.. haha

There are several new features in runescape over the past two years.

I suspect the popularity of runescape is based on two things

1: Not that bad gameplay.

2: Price.

Obviously this man has never heard of the "MiniClip advertising scheme".

Back when they (Jagex) started advertising on MiniClip, the population rose hugely and lag was rampant...I actually logged in today and it's so much more laggier than it ever was. Jagex needs to invest in some servers that don't suck. :P

I would say it's popularity has got to do the most with the price.

WoW is indeed far superior to runescape, but is in fact MUCH more expensive, I myself for example can't afford to play it :(

This lag is particualrly promiment atm due to sheer joy ppl have of exploring the new poh

His point is valid. When RS started advertising on MiniClip, there was no massive update/new engine or whatever to get people logging on. It was the sheer fact that more people saw the game that caused new members and lag.

I was refering to his "I logged in today and it so muhc laggier than ever" comment as that is due to the update lag from everyone being around poh and downloading the update, the miniclip comment was perferctly valid. I was around then as well ya know
