Paw_Claw, I was on a F2P world, it should have nothing to do with the members only updates.

Granted, F2P worlds were always laggier, I couldn't bare it this time, I signed off after about 4 minutes. I have DSL and a Graphics Card good enough to run WoW without lag, so obviously it's Jagex's servers. :P

Some servers are better than others. The Amsterdam server is like 50 miles from my house, yet I usually play on the Atlanta worlds because those are far less laggier to me.

I knew RS was pretty big, although last time I looked it hadn't overtaken FFXI yet. And WoW is growing stupidly fast

umm what about maplestory? there are over 1.2 million users and its been around for a year.

updates always lag all worlds, its a given as the servers are in groups

And as for free worlds not surprising

Hardly neone can play on free worlds without some degree of lag

the 'good' free worlds for me i go about 1/4 of the speed in do on members worlds

The 'bad' ones I am lucky to mvoe 2 sqs without losing connection

Are they juts uses or paying members?

As this chart clearly only depicts the paying market, if it included the free players rs would porbably be up to the 2mil line atleast

yeh i knew runescape was big, also is it the only one on the list where u can play as f2p and not have to buy a C.D?

They don't have to pay, last I checked.

I think people are missing my point on the server lag issue. They are much laggier than I ever remember them being. Even for F2P, which I remember being horrible, now is just unplayable to me. I don't think this had anything to do with the update; I just logged in today and it's still crappy. You could argue people are all in the same area still, but it matters not. There are just more players than Jagex expected, and their servers are lacking. I just wonder how bad Members worlds are...

to be honest, runescape is a little bit smaller than i thought compared to other games, but its rising fast. Wow is a little hard to belive, true it had a good jump start (ty to wc) and plenty of advertising, but thats still hell of a big number.

Who ever thought a Java game could get so big!

Good day sir, how may I help you?

Id like to access my bank account please.

Certainly sir.

Not meaning to sound too picky etc etc

But I would say your memory is somewhat lacking in this area, if that statement is true

I have played rs ever since its first public release (on and off in earlier years, but still played). To begin with free worlds were horrible lag wise etc etc, but servers got upgraded and stuff and it only ever got better. Ignoring update lag the worlds are running with the least lag I have ever known of late. I can succesfully play any members world now with little to no lag. Free worlds however are a different matter they are somewhat overloaded it is true and ever since miniclip have gradually got worse for lag etc.

But members certianly are running beter than ever.

Since you only can go on free worlds I guess your point is valid, but if you saw a members world I highly doubt you'd think it had got laggier

Member's worlds probably aren't worse, they always had no lag.

I've been playing since the release too. Before the Wilderness, before armor restrictions, yadda yadda...Level 123, 90, 70...

Millions of people played Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo series. Many people who did now play WoW because the company behind it makes quality games. It has it's flaws, but it is a great game. You could play every MMO out there today and not find a better one. I've played most of them (the serious ones...Screw that maplestory BS.) and they're not even comparitive.

Something tells me, my red font attention seeking friend, that you've never played WoW, correct?

Also that is just counting members too...

And theres a ton more f2per then members probably

Theres about 2 million people playing altogether, theres probably 1 million members at most too

More... Look at this from the Jagex Corpate Website.

Gain our audience's attention. Jagex has a large audience of over 5 million unique users who play our games every month.

there is over 6.5m registed account on Runescape. that was from a few months ago, but is there REALLY 6.5m account on WoW thats like 90million dollars a month something doesnt seem right about this.

mysig11sv5.png

I'm a little surprised. I knew runescape has been growing a lot in the past year or two, but it's still not commonly mentioned. In my experience when talking about MMOs the names go WoW, FFXI, EQ. (If we're talking asia then Lineage.)

The difference is Runescape isn't the same type game, really. Runescape has no inital cost, low monthly cost, and negligible installation (you can play in a few minutes on any browser with java as long as you know your name and password.) The flip side is that the graphics and gameplay can't compare to the big-budget games.

Compared to the brand names, Runescape is the brand X that no one talks about. But there are lots of people who can only afford brand X, so it's a very viable niche market. In fact, the bigger WoW becomes, and the more popular MMOs become in popular culture, the bigger Runescape will also become because there will be more people looking for a cheap 'brand X' alternative to WoW.

6.5 Million accounts on RuneScape could mean there are as little as like 1 million players total. I know I personally had many account, and I know most people do aswell.

This is about PAYING customers. F2Per's, in all their leaching glory, do not count. Even if we DID count them, RuneScape would still be way behind, but it would be like the 2nd biggest game in the world, assuming every F2Per would pay. They do not, however.

Yes, there are 6.5 million people who play WoW. Over 1.5 million in China alone. Yes, that is 97.5 million dollars per month. Yes, that is over 1 billion dollars per year. Too bad for Blizzard, most of that money surely goes to Vivendi Universal, their parent company. But I have no doubt that people who work on WoW get paid very well. Usually, I've read, experienced developers can make $50,000 per year, twice that or more if they make a successful game. WoW is the most successful MMORPG *ever*, so I have no doubt they're getting paid well.

But it isn't all rolling in money, they have like a thousand servers, so AT&T gets a bunch of their money, too. They set up new servers monthly, aswell.

A ton of money is involved, but like I said, they're not rolling around in it in their offices I'm sure. :P

Anyone know what a subscription to WoW costs compared to RS, PM me if you know.

rs isnt that bad, eh?

Get a level 123, then say it's not boring and is the greatest game ever. :P I had fun while it lasted, but I got tired of updates being "Hey hey, new quest suited for level 50's with a reward that isn't even an upgrade for them!"

It's fun for what it is, but when you play WoW (if you haven't yet) it makes you not want to look back. Ever. :P

I know loads of people who say they found WoW uterly boring after they got their character to lvl 60 :P

In a little hilltop village they gambled for my clothes

I bargained for salvation and they gave me a lethal dose

I offered up my innocence, I got repaid with scorn

"Come in'', she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

Tigra00, the biggest RuneScape update is out, construction! It MIGHT make you want to continue playing, I mean you're so good, I checked your hiscores.

See you

It would take a freight train and millions of dollars to make me start playing this game again. :P

WoW after level 60 *can* be boring, depending on your play-style. If you're not into raids, then you have to grind like in RuneScape, only you grind faction to get a decent reward item. Skills don't take much grinding like RS.

RS cost = $5

WoW cost = $15

is amusing, most people who say runesacpe is the best game availible, often havn't played any other mmorpg.

In comparison to other mmorpgs ive played: Asherons call 1/2, EQ 1/2, Lineage 1/2, WoW, SoG, CoH/CoV, DoD online, SWG and matrix online, runescape is simply a pile of [cabbage] :)

the best game i played is Asherons Call 2, simply because it had the best community out of any game ive played, WoW is very good yes, but when i was playing AC2, i could call my "online mates" within that game my real life mates aswell. Its the only game i miss playing...hrmpf...shame turbine thought theyd spend all of their resources in DoD instead.
