donutjunkie
ok well the more i hear about this game the more i like it, i play runescape and am used to it so i would like some comparisons if possible also i have never played wow before. how much does playing on a pvp server to playing on a pve server influence your gameplay? will i constantly be getting pwned by gangs of lvl 60 horde members? also, what is more popular horde or alliance, i thought it would be horde (who can resist the tauren?) but wikipedia corrected me but my friend says that the horde get everything easier so they are more popular. if there is a lot more alliance then horde and many alliance members go around slaughtering horde for fun, i will probably have to play on a pve server which races and classes do and do not go together? about what level do i get mounts? whats the deal with hearthstones? how many places can i set them to? can i change the places once i have set them? what are reccomended places to set them? logging out: in runescape after like 30 seconds it automatically logs you out, this is somewhat annoying, in Wow what is the system with this, do u have a set time to move you mouse or do something before u austomatically log out, or unless u log out manually u can leave it there for a week while still online? what cd's do i need to buy for wow, i know ther are some expansion packs, how many exactly? how much does the wow cd cost, how much do each expansion packs cost and finally: is there going to be a world of warcraft 2, because it would really suck if i bought all this stuff then wow 2 came out and it was all for nothing. thats all i can really think of (i edited out a lot of stuff once it was answered and edited in some stuff when i thought of it) also, for you enjoyment its a wow dancing vid, is it hard to memorise the emotes or should i write em down on paper or sumthin? i finally quit runescape to play world of warcraft. i play on frostmourne, alliancecheck out my threadhttp://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=479665&highlight=
Anesthesia
first off, i want to be alliance my friends are alliance and are all knight elf which race should i be? Depends on what class you want. The class you want to be depends on what you like doing. There is no best class. Except shaman (nerf). also do mages need runes or whatever to cast magic, do they use that mana thingy? They use mana, no runes needed for most spells. For certain spells they need a reagent (the slow falling spell for example needs a light feather, teleports need teleport runes which are very cheap and available in all cities). is it difficult to get money or is it like paying san andreas where you get a lot of money from doing missions and you rarely have to do minigames? You won't get a lot of money from quests. The best money comes from grinding, which is boring. can you swap races after you choose one? No. can you swap clases after you choose one? No. i know that WoW servers arent liek rs where u just choose 1 at will, i heard you choose 1 and then you are stuck with it, does that mean if i chosoe a server that my friends wont ever be able to meet me if they are on another server which they chose at the start? with the pvp and pve (or whatever it is) do you have to choose one at the beggining like servers? Unless realm transfers get opened, if they're on another server they can't play with you. Whether you're PvP or PvE depends on what server you choose. now i dont really liek doing quests in runescape, they are complicated and invlove a lot of walking and guess work, are the quests in WoW the same or are they much more simple, i played fable and liked their quests because you knew what you had to do, no complications (ie: kill this dude in this place with this item) The WoW quests in general are much more straightforward (kill X number of monsters, collect X number of items from drops). The exception is with epic quests where it gets marginally more complex and more strategies are involved. how much walking is involved, my friend said that walking from 1 side of the map to the other would litterally take all day, is this true There's a huge amount of walking involved, but it won't take all day. will i have to walk long distances or will i generally stay in the same area when doing quests and so fourth until i need to do another group of quests There's a huge amount of walking within just one area, even if you stay in the same area there's loads of walking to do. Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.
Fat_Slug
what i suggest is to get the game installed etc, and then play a class to 20. by then you should get a idea on how the class works. find one that suits you, then enjoy playing it. i play a dwarf female hunter, human female mage, and troll male priest and i enjoy all of the classes equally. my daughter likes her druid, and both my boys love their rogues and hunters. one point is that if you go to a pvp server you can only be horde or alliance, not both on those. i chose to play on a pve server which means i can have both anyone can give advice but you need to play a class to get the feel of it. i had a warrior to begin with as it was the closest to rs i could get. i promtly ditched it after 10 levels, i knew i hated it. one downfall is that there is alot of walking involved in wow, not teleports as such, so i suggest you choose your hearthstone wisely. i keep mine in ironforge simply cuz i go out do quest/grind then come back to sell anyitems usefull to players or green/blue items(good quality armour/weapons) Runescape nick : Fat_SlugOwner of Ears, Scythe and a 10 year veteran cape :D
Lionheart_0
In a game like this, there is no "good" or "bad class. Tigra00
In a game like this, there is no "good" or "bad class. Its just a matter of what you like, and what you know. example i like the Rouge and mage class, and im good at playing them because i know how to use them. Just get too learn your characters. I disagree. "Good" and "Bad" classes change every class review patch! Warlocks used to *suck* but now they're unstoppable. Same with Hunters. Warriors used to be unstoppable, now they get nerfs every patch. Rogues used to own, now they're lacking because their items aren't huge upgrades like other classes...Then again, they'll ALWAYS be good. As a top DPS class, they have no reason not to. :P I'll give you a reason to play and not to play a certain class, as far as my knowledge can get me. There are a few I haven't played over level 20 yet. Warrior - I know everything about this class, it's my main class. First off, if you're a good learner, and probably a quick one, you can safely roll this class and have fun. If you're not, don't do it. Tanking is NOT easy and probably not great for beginners. The last thing you want is the reputation of a bad tank. :P They're also very gear-dependant, meaning if your gear isn't good, you won't be able to kill people in PvP. As a beginner, I don't suggest rolling this class. Just too much you need to know how to do, and you'll have to have gear you won't be able to afford/get. Rogue - Good class, learning curve isn't that steep. It's basically a "Pick up and own everyone" class, in my own words. I have a level 60 with lame gear and he can still kill people. This is probably the best beginner class, but you'll have a hard time getting in instances sometimes...The rogue population on some servers is like 50%. Paladin - Gear dependant and will always be lacking in PvP. They're only really good for instances (really good). Shaman - People say they own. I haven't got one over level 27 yet (you get the "owning" spell called Windfury Weapon at 30) so I'm not sure. Their burst damage is pretty incredible which is an important part of PvP. I've seen epic geared shamans do 3,000 damage in one Windfury proc. That's rare, no doubt, but still. :P They have a lot of great spells to keep people from running away, too. Warlock - Nice class, but they have a pet, so they're a harder class to learn. They're pretty much unstoppable in PvP. I can't think of any class that can beat them easily. Mage - Incredible burst damage, low survivability. They have the lowest health of all the classes, but they often don't need it because you cannot touch a good mage. Hunter - Another pet class, so they're harder to learn, but in PvP they beat everyone up. My warrior used to be able to eat their faces off, but since they got the frost-trap kiting bullcrap (they all do it) they can't really be beaten. Also, everyone plays them, and Night Elf hunters are made fun of for trying to be like Legolas. Priest - Strong class in PvP when played Shadow Specced. Holy and Disc tree's are getting better for PvP, but shadow still wins. Also, as a Shadow Priest, you have hardly any down-time (drinking for mana) so it's a quick leveler. Get used to using a wand a LOT. :P Druid - I reccomend this class. As a Feral Druid, you have zero down-time and you're comparable to a Rogue and Warrior when you're in the correct form. In bear form you also have more armor than any warrior will EVER have and you're incredibley hard to kill. If you get low, you just pop out of form, heal, and pop back in. :P Balance Druids kinda' stink, and Restoration Druids are hard to level. Go Feral and wear rogue gear and you'll do great. They can also escape with Travel Form so they're very hard to kill. I have a level 45 Feral Druid and I have NEVER died yet. As a new player you'll probably die some, but you'll learn. Like I said, I reccomend this class, they're incredibley powerful and NOONE realizes it, so noone plays them. You'll have an easy time getting groups. No, you can't change class/race at any time, either. The WoW game itself costs probably $35-$40 right now, when it came out it was $50, but I'm sure it's went down. Yes, there is an expansion coming out before 2007. Estimated around October, I heard. It won't be a waste of money though, the expansion just has a bunch of new content that you can enjoy, so it's worth it of course. It is $15 per month. No idea what that is in Australia. You can pay credit card or game card and I think money order, but I'm not sure on that one. There are 60 combat levels and 300 levels for each "skill". You can only have 2 "skills" (primary like mining/smithing, etc.) but you can have all the "secondary" skills (first aid, cooking, etc.) It's much easier to get max-level in WoW than RS though. Level 60 my first time took me a month or so. Level 300 in my skills took the same month, you level as you level, pretty much. Weapon levels just let you get better at using a weapon. At level 60, your weapon skills will all be X of 300. You'll level it up by using that weapon. The higher it is (300/300 for example) the more you hit. It's easy to level, so don't worry. You level it as you level up using weapons, but if you started one from 0/300, it'd only take like 30 mins to get it to 300, lol. Armor in WoW scales gradually. There is Green, which has stats on it like +stamina, +strength, etc. And then there is Blue armor, which has those stats, but BETTER. Then there are Epics (Purples) which are even better yet, and Legendaries (orange) which are the best so far. You'll probably never see a Legendary (only a few people per server have them, they're hard to get) so don't worry about those. :P The scaling is moderate, you'll just get more armor, more stamina, more strength, intellect, whatever your class needs. It's not like in RS where you get a peice of armor and go "OMG I got...Uhhh....Wtf...3 defense?!". That's all I can answer for now. I'll suggest you go to http://www.allakhazam.com to look up stuff for yourself. Hope that helps. donutjunkie
^^^ thanks you!!! feral druid is in the lead so far, also i would like to know about inventory spots, like is it similar to runescape or what? there is still some more questions that need answering tho. is it $15 a month US? i finally quit runescape to play world of warcraft. i play on frostmourne, alliancecheck out my threadhttp://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=479665&highlight=
Osm0s1s
ok well the more i hear about this game the more i like it, i play runescape and am used to it so i would like some comparisons if possible also i have never played wow before. first off, i want to be alliance my friends are alliance and are all knight elf which race should i be? which class should i be? i liked the look of rogue, but then it had all this stuff about stealth, i dont really like stealth, i then liked the look of warrior, but then my friend said that warriors suck, i also read something which said that warriors die often till you reach level 40 which put me off a bit, i then glanced at the priest which looks bad, i then thought really hard about druid, it says you can do just about everything as druid, but i also read that when you go into the cat and bear forms it costs a hell of a lot of mana and is complicated to play and is slowest to level, i still liek the look of druid but im wondering if there is something a little better. i looked at the hunter, they use ranged attack primarily apparently, i didnt liek the sound of that becuase arrows cost money, in runescape when i started i was forced to be a warrior because arrows were expensive and runes were waaaay to expensive, can someone give me a comparison for money of warcraft to money of rs? also do mages need runes or whatever to cast magic, do they use that mana thingy? is it difficult to get money or is it like paying san andreas where you get a lot of money from doing missions and you rarely have to do minigames? can you swap races after you choose one? can you swap clases after you choose one? i know that WoW servers arent liek rs where u just choose 1 at will, i heard you choose 1 and then you are stuck with it, does that mean if i chosoe a server that my friends wont ever be able to meet me if they are on another server which they chose at the start? with the pvp and pve (or whatever it is) do you have to choose one at the beggining like servers? now i dont really liek doing quests in runescape, they are complicated and invlove a lot of walking and guess work, are the quests in WoW the same or are they much more simple, i played fable and liked their quests because you knew what you had to do, no complications (ie: kill this dude in this place with this item) how much walking is involved, my friend said that walking from 1 side of the map to the other would litterally take all day, is this true, will i have to walk long distances or will i generally stay in the same area when doing quests and so fourth until i need to do another group of quests (ie: if i was in varrock and i needed to do a quest i wouldnt have to go to canfis, camelot, falador and burthorpe to complete it) how many characters can i recieve with just the 1 account? my friend said 50 but im sure ive heard you get more, my brothers could play as well as me if there is more then 1 character per account so it would be ideal if we could have tonnes of characters each. is there any races or classes that you could suggest i not choose that way i could narrow my list. my friend told me not to choose tauren because it was slow, is that a real minus? are there any other races that do that? would it slow down my mount? mounts: when do i get one? how much faster do they go compared to walking on foot (ie: in rs you run twice as fast as you would walking) teleporting: i take it that teleporting is not the same as teleporting in runescape, can you tell me which teleports are available and info on them? are there any other transportation methods other then walking and using your mounts? do you have to keep clicking to a spot on the small mini map in runescape which makes it a chore, or is there a larger map where you click to a place and my character goes there (ie: im in falador and with one click i walk to the dwarven mines or to varrock or something? whats the deal with healing? well in rs you heal by eating food, how do you heal in wow, i read that you can heal yourself using mana, if its anything like using prayer to heal yourself in rs that is useless, please give information on this? mana: where do i replenish mana? is it liek prayer where i just go to an alter? if it is are these altar type things common? are there any main places that i will have to visit often? (ie: if runescape only had 1 set of yew trees or 1 mine or 1 bank) or are there these useful things in most cities? skills or proffessions: do these ultimately determine how you make money? does it take long to make money? is it like me choosing fletching and high alching in runescape or is it far more vast? how many proffesions can i have? i take it that with these you make stuff which you then sell, do you have to find some player and sell it to them like fally on world 2 in rs or is there a shop that pays a decent amount for them? you mentioned that grinding was boring, is that because it contains a lot of repetition or because you arent doing a lot, liek picking flax in runescape? can you tell me about the different proffessions? is making money difficult? other then quests and proffessions how do i make money? are there drops from monsters i can sell? armours: ok in runescape they have a distinct order: bronze, iron, steel, black, white, mith, addy, rune then there is barrows and dragon which is rather complicated. in wow do you basically just get an armour then stick with it or are you usually trying to get an armour that costs more than the money you have? in wow do you have a lvl which allows you to weild better weapons, a lvl which lets you wield better armour (how the hell do you speel wield anyway?) is there a lvl which lets you do other stuff or do you just have a combat level which lets you do it all? levels: what levels are there? wat do they let u do? are there any lvls i would really want to achieve? can you enlighten me on more information on skills? paying: now i want this in australian currency i live in australia so saying x amount of pounds or whatever is totally useless. i heard it was 14.95 a month or $30 for 2 months, from friends ive heard it was $13, $15, $20, $32 so at the moment im clueless. in runescape i use the pay by phone method because i have no credit card, what methods do i use to pay for wow? what cd's do i need to buy for wow, i know ther are some expansion packs, how many exactly? how much does the wow cd cost, how much do each expansion packs cost and finally: is there going to be a world of warcraft 2, because it would really suck if i bought all this stuff then wow 2 came out and it was all for nothing. thats all i can really think of Al I know abut is LEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JENKINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNS!!! Tigra00
BTW even with the faster traveling griffin, it took me about 5 minutes to get from the harbour to stormwind Yep, some of the flight paths (think teleports in RS) take a loooong time. It sucks, but it's WAY better than walking. Walking from one end of Kalimdor to the other could very well take 30 mins. A Flight to certain places can take up to 13 mins (longest I can recall) like Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale to Raventusk Village, Hinterlands. It's not in a straight line, it goes to other places, but yea, it's long. :P Inventory spots (someone asked) - You get bags. Your back pack has 16 or 18 slots, I forget, and you can get 4 more bags, up to 16 slots (accessable to all players) each. There are also 18 and 20 slot bags, but only raiders can get them, and even then, they're rare because the materials are rediculous. There is more room than on RS, though. I think RS's bank is bigger than WoW's, however, you don't need as much space. A bank is like 50 slots or something, plus you can buy extra spaces for 16 slot bags, so you can probably get like 100 slots or something for your bank, I dunno'. Never needed it. And yes, it's $15 USD per month. I think that's a *tad* more in Aussie, I'm not sure. Also, they JUST opened up Oceanic servers today for Aussies, so hooray for you. ;) The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me! 0_Phathead_0
PvP servers are A LOT more fun then PvE servers IMO. In certain areas you can kill horde/alliance while questing which I think is fun and makes the game more challenging and less of "standing around". The only downside is that there are usually a lot of level 60's going around camping all the low level noobs killing them. If your alliance I suggest night elf so if u see a high level enemy they have a move called shadowmeld which u can disapear. I havent really played a horde character but if you want to own i suggest undead warlock or tauren shaman. DeusVult
[garden tool], [garden tool] :D well, let's get started. All your friends are night elves, you say? you should ask them what realm they are playing at first off all:P and I think you can have eight characters on ONE realm. and there's quite alot of realms. I believe 50 is the right answer- because I have nearly 12 chars(six of them are lvl 60:P ) If you plan to do as your friends and be a night elf, you have a few class choices: Warrior: No healing. Good damage, among the best armour and weapon profiences in the game. However, You'll do rather poor at ranged attacks. Rogue: VERY good damage. However, your best kind of armour will be Leather. However, your defense is quite bad. and If you get a damage-over-time at you, you're pretty much screwed. Druid: Flexible! Turn to a Bear to Fill the Role as a warrior, with high defence and much of the same abillities. A cat, to fill the role as a Rogue. Or you could choose to use the travel form, making you move faster. However, druid is somewhat of jack of all trades, master of none. You also get a formidable healing. Priest: The best healer in the game. You can do significant damage in player v player if you choose to spec to be a shadow priest, but expect to be killed alot faster as you only have cloth profiences and minimal weapon profiences. If you do, however choose holy priest, every party will want you with them(nearly). Though, you will often have the blame if everyone in your party dies. Hunters: King of the solo play. Tame a pet and use it to hold the monster while you hurl attacks at range. and eventually, you can learn to wear Mail armour! However, if your pet dies- you're propably going to lose the fight as theres' nothing that stops the mob to attack you. To the realm question: you CAN have MORE than 8. But I dunno about 50. I'd guess at about 30 chars- but you can only have 8 characters on the same server. donutjunkie
so 8 characters per realm, how many realsms are there? how many characters would i get if i had as many characters as possible on all the pve realms? all the pve and pvp realms? all the pve pvp and rp pve realms? all the pve pvp rp pve and rp pvp realms? if that makes sense can i do all this on the 15 dollars US a month or will i have to pay extra if i choose more then X amount of realms? I think you will find this informational video quite useful Cool that was not useful at all, however it was entertaining Oh, and I'd reccomend reading up on lore if you're into that stuff. A lot of cool stories, plus you'll be able to actually see a LOT of lore people/places/things in-game. Like the Dark Portal, for example. Razz. i looked at some of it and it was pretty interesting, thanks what attributes should a knight elf feral druid have, what attributes should a tauren shaman have? - because that is the characters ill get first off, is a tauren shaman any good, coz i really want a tauren! also can i delete a character once i have made it, ie: i make a warrior, pla it for a while, hate it, then find out that i have used up all the characters on all the realms and want to delete my warrior so i can make a new character ill add this to the orignial post i finally quit runescape to play world of warcraft. i play on frostmourne, alliancecheck out my threadhttp://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=479665&highlight=
