June 14, 200620 yr Well, I'm not the biggest soccer fan and all. I don't know too much about Internation Tournaments. I know the US did so-so in the friendlies. Coming into this, I thought their pool. Oh, the Czech, ahh, that's an auto-win. Ghana, simple Italy, could be a loss So we are looking at 2-1 and in the actual single elimination tournament. But, the US lost an absolute laugher to the Czech Republic 3-0 yesterday. Is the United States really the team to beat in International Sports. Think back to the games in Athens in 2004. The US Basketball team almost related to the "Dream Team" of the 1990? Olympics. They came in 6th. A notable loss being to Argentina. Hockey in the past olympics, they stunk. And the United States after being so dominant in the sports world seemed to only win Snowboarding events in this past years olympics at Turin (Torino), Italy. So, is the United States being cocky in all these events, or are they just getting worse?
June 14, 200620 yr USA have never been a great team in football. I don't know where you got that idea from. Maybe your media has been falsely building them up? (maybe the FIFA ranking helped this - they are are a load of rubbish) Also your expectations might have been set too high because they reached the quarter finals 4 years ago. They got lucky then. Now the Czech's are one of the best team in the world and no one expects a win when playing them(well maybe Brazil) But yeah USA have never dominated in football.

June 14, 200620 yr The image of the US being the best sporting country in the world comes from the fact that there's an overly strong focus on the sports that are popular there - Baseball, American Football and Basketball. Other than these three, there are no sports where America is a constant dominating factor. I'll admit that they're popping up in the top rankings more often than most countries, but that's mostly a cultural thing. Competition is simply far more important for Americans than it is for most other people, which is why they have sports grants and stuff like that. June 14, 200620 yr ive been watching the World cup... little bit here an there... switching from the speed channel to ESPN :P its kinda interesting to watch. maby if i knew more about it, rules and such. it would be more entertaining to me. another sad fact: not that it would happen, but if the USA won the cup, USA itself wouldnt care.. but if one of the other contries wins.. that country takes so much pride in it... thats awsome!
