U.S., World Domination in the Past in Sports? Over?

I love baseball, but I just love the excitement of Big Papi (David Ortiz) slamming a walk-off homerun to win a game. Or Curt Schilling's incredible performence in Game 5 in the 2004 ALCS versus the dreaded New York Yankees. If you say that baseball is not full of real athletes, pitching with a bloody sock after surgery, yes I think that takes some guts. Hitting a 100 mile per hour (no not kilometer) pitch, you try that from 60 feet 6 inches away. (18.4404 meters). Laying out for a short line drive to make a spectacular catch. That's what it's all about. Look at Aaron Rowland of the Philidelphia Phillies.

Back to the bullpen wall, runs into the fence and makes the catch! He holds on!!! Breaks his nose and is put on the 15-Day Designated List (DL). 2003 ALDS, Boston Red Sox versus Oakland Athletics, Damian Jackson (2B), Nomar Garciaparra (SS), and Johnny Damon (CF) of the Boston Red Sox all run in on a shallow fly-ball. Damian Jackson and Johnny Damon collide. They are on the ground for over 10 minutes.

Not suprised on how dangerous this game really is yet?

You are 60' 6'' away from Homeplate. You pitch a 95 MPH fastball, the batter hits a hard line drive back at the pitchers mound at nearly double the speed. Off the face, pitcher is out for his career. Sometimes pitchers have lost eyes. Believe me, catching a "mile high" pop-up/fly ball is no easy feat either. It takes some skill to play baseball.

Collisions,

Fantastic Plays,

BENCHES CLEARING BRAWLS!

I will not say what I was going to say because I'd get flamed.(not that I haven't already gotten flamed ) \'.

You never know what's going to happen.

1986 World Series, Game 6.

Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, Darryl Strawberry of the New York Mets up in Shea Stadium with the Boston Red Sox needing 1 more out to win Game 6 to win the World Series in the best of 7 series, 4-2. The chance for the Red Sox to break the infimate "curse" that Babe Ruth casted on the Red Sox after he was sold to the New York Yankees, back in 1919.

"Ground ball to first, this will do it- Oh!!! It gets under Buckners legs!!! He will come around to score! We are going to a Game 7!!!" (Not exact words). The Mets won Game 7 to win the World Series.

But then in 2004,

"Ground ball, stabbed by [Keith] Foulke! Underhands it to first and the Boston Red Sox are the World Champions! For the first time in 86 years. Can you believe it?" - WEEI Radio.

Yes, steriods have made this sport that much worse, with the lying :^o from Barry Bonds in his chase for the most Homeruns of all-time. Reporters putting him down, and more recently, Jason Grimsley of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Currently, the MLB is doing squat about trying to make players not use performance enhansing drugs. They have made a 50 game suspension w/o pay for the first offence. On the 3rd offence, AUTOMATIC BAN FROM BASEBALL. (That means MLB, Class AAA, Class AA, Class A, and the Rookie League).

The recent addition of the World Baseball Classic (Inagural Tournament being this past March) will bring Baseball to the most dominant sport in the world soon. I guarentee it. It may take 100 years but it will become the best sport in the world! .

I hope this cleared up how great of a sport baseball is. Until someone can persuade me of how good soccer is, baseball will always be my favorite sport.

Dude, what are you trying to do? Make me sleep? I just woke up man.

The lack of reply to my post shows how weak your point is.

I have a lot of people to reply to buddy, and as for Shadow, maybe it's just my opinion, but I believe that everything above is exciting, if you know the rules. Maybe you guys just don't know how to play baseball in Europe. I don't know how to play cricket.

EDIT: Actually I have an idea of how to play cricket I just don't know the game in-depth. Don't you hit the ball, run to the other side of the field, run back and if they hit the wickets thing then your out?

Yeah, there was a two-entire-teams brawl at this football camp thing I was at last week... It was pretty sweet. Oh, american football.

I'd have to agree... Soccer is a lot less boring than baseball. I just can't really get into baseball that much.

Man, the american youth is lost.

If they can't accept eachother's favorite sports, hobbies and crafts, what will be their attittude on other people's sexual preference, nacionality, religion or race?

At Fad: I'm not european, if you weren't able to notice that from my post I don't know what's going on with you. :?

The reason everyone in the world plays it because most of the world is in poverty. All you need for soccer is a freakin' ball, and some play without it(using coconuts or whatever).

It's also about the simplest concept in the world. Run around and kick a ball into a rectangular area. Wooo.

The United States isn't dominant in soccer because we have the technology to play more advanced sports(hockey, football, lacrosse). We focus our energies to that instead.

Oh and since everyone else is doing it..

Baseball you just get a stick and a small ball. Basketball you get a ball and some sort of hoop or can...Football (American) you'll need a ball (doesn't even have to be football shaped...)

Football/Soccer: :D

American Football: :)

Oh my, a nation's advancement is based on the difficulty of their sport? How big of you.

Less is more.

I think baseball is just as boring as soccer :P

edit: Actually seeing who wins in a baseball game is kinda fun to watch. And I can remember a time where soccer was interesting, Shaolin Soccer.

Thus, F1-countries are the wealthiest in the world. Brazil is the best F1 country there is. And indeed, NO poverty there whatsoever. :-k

To continue on your statement: do you even consider a football field costs much more than a basketball or a tennis field? Simply because the surface is so much larger. One acre in Belgium costs a tenfold of the costs of, let's say, biking equipment of an entire team. Also, football players are some of the most expensive top sporters there are.

So you could say football is one of the most expensive sports in the world Think before you post something next time.

We indeed have a wealthy upper class

Tomato, it takes so much technology to develop a wooden bat and a hard little ball...You can't even imagine how much nerdness that takes... :-$

So what does that make any other country that has the technology to play hockey but still - nationally - favour soccer?

One of the reasons for soccer's popularity is the fact that the "underdog" wins 45% of the time. And I really fail to see how the likelyhood of people getting hurt makes a sport more interesting (unless it's a sport were the point is to hurt your opponent).

Every one else is doing what?

American football can be as lame as how you describe it. One big fat man running to one side of the field with no need to aim for anything. Just run to one side and make sure you don't fall down. How does THAT need technology? =; Wooo.

Wait, did your post mean as well that England, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Korea, Japan, Australia, Russia, Ukraine, UAE, Spain etc. DON'T have the technology for lacrosse OR American football?

Please, tell me that your post was pure sarcasm.

American football != football

Umm yeah, you know, as far as that technology argument, I'd probably just drop that one. It's not going anywhere.

So, I was watching South Park last night, and the words of Cartman come to mind randomly...

Yeah, South Park is silly, and i guess it's not really that funny out of context.

Lets not turn this into a "my sport is better" argument. They are just not worth arguing about.

Did everyone just ignore my post above? I said quit it. Lets move off that arguement. It never goes anywhere and just turns into flame wars.

I just wanna hear from all my "playa hatas" out there, What was the final score of the USA, Italy game :P  . And you said that we are worse than Ok, we just tied one of the premier teams AND we have a chance to make it to 16.

Italy beats Czech

USA beats Ghana and we are in baby!

Lol, don't get so excited. A draw wouldn't help you get to any of the final 4 spots.

What about all the padding used in Football? Especially the helmets now a days, those are becoming more and more advanced.

You can play Football without pads, but that can hurt unless you are playing touch football (I would know from playing with my brother and my dad :P ) and touch football isnt that fun.

Well, it's a little more complicated than that. The guys running the ball are gonna be as fast and as athletic as any of the soccer players, the linemen are the only fatties really...

I'm 6'0" at 195, and I'm one of the smallest linemen on my team  And comparatively, we're a small team. But hey, the cuteness factor of not being lard-ful outweights the advantage of being fat enough to be an effective lineman.

Yeah, as for US hope for the world cup, I'd like to see us get to the next round but uh... US has to beat Ghana and Italy has to beat the Czechs. Based on what's happened so far, Ghana could definitely beat the US and the Czechs could beat Italy. It's another one of those possible things but unlikely. But yeah, there's hope!

Touch American football is fun :P It ends up being tackle for us in the end anyway :P

But it's not that a draw won't get you into the final 4, for more sports fans, it's mostly about hope. The fact that you have a CHANCE to get into the final 4, not that there's no chance at all. If a baseball team wins it's division with 40 wins and 142 losses, they have a chance to win the World Series, they may not, but at least the fans have something to hope for.

So if the USA makes it to 32, we at least have more hope than we wouldn't have had without making it :) .

But, believe it or not, maybe I do like soccer. I am definetly not a hard-core fan but I really enjoyed watching that game yesterday between Italy and the USA. Maybe I never really enjoyed Soccer because I didn't have a team :) . Plus this is a big scale nevertheless, but still, maybe I am starting to enjoy soccer and this flame-war can be over. :)

PS...If i have a team to root for. In a baseball game, if I go to one and I don't have a team to root for, or against, I really cannot fully enjoy watching the game. :-k
