System Of A Down: Serj Tankian Talks About Last Go-Around

System Of A Down is set to call it quits after Ozzfest 2006 winds down later this month. The band has individual projects lined up for System's "indefinite hiatus," and many fans at the shows couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness.

Vocalist Serj Tankian was gracious enough to invite us on his bus for a joint interview with Bad Acid Trip, who are on his Serjical Strike record label. We asked the singer if there was any sadness for the last go-around of System Of A Down.

"I'm not feeling sad right now. I'm really enjoying this tour. I'm really enjoying hanging out with all these guys. It's honestly been the most fun System tour I've ever been on. That's kind of really appealing to me, and it's gone by pretty quickly. So, I'm excited about the prospects of what else there is down the line, each of the guys with their own stuff, myself... We all need time to do that and when the time comes if we're all comfortable with coming back and doing this together, System will always be there for us."

System Of A Down leaves on top of their game. Not only are they enjoying rave reviews on the fest, they also leave with a Billboard record two Number One debuting albums in one year with Mesmerize and Hypnotize, respectively. Ozzfest ends August 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

There goes one of the greatest mainstream bands of today. What a pity.... they were one of the few bands in this Era that i actually liked.

What about The Red Chord, Strapping Young Lad, Napalm Death, Vader, Slayer, etc etc? System of a Down got progressively worse with each album

He didn't say it's the only one, Lageris.

There's plenty more though, they're not a great loss. Especially if they're on Ozzfest.

Do you have to come in and do this in every topic? It's getting kinda annoying, an since phpbb doesn't have an ignore option this trollish dribble is getting more and more on my nerves.

Anyway, while it's sad that they're going on an indefinete hiatus, they left two full albums and a large tour, and while it's 'indefinete', it's not permanent. I'm sure they'll be back better than ever in 5 years or so.

Do what in every topic? I post once or twice every few days. I'm glad I'm noticed so easily.

Necro means that not a lot of positive feedback comes from your hands.

And it's a shame SOAD splits. I liked every one of their albums, also their last one(s). I'm not one of those people that only think old-skool stuff is good.

What can I say, people like to talk about bad bands here.

I'll dare you, this is my list of what's in my rock-map, only the famous bands >90s:

Alice in Chains, A Perfect Circle, Autolux, Ayreon, Blur, Bush, Body Count, Deftones, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Foo Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, Grandaddy, Greenday, HIM, Hard-Fi, Kaiser Chiefs, LP, Manu Chao, Marylin Manson, Muse, Nirvana, Oasis, Offspring, Pearl Jam, Placebo, Presidents of the USA, QotSA, Rage Against the Machine, Real Mckenzies, Ska-P, Soulwax, Soundgarden, the Cranberries, The Editors, The Gorillaz, the Kooks, the Pixies, the Raconteurs, the Real McKenzies, the RHCP, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Streets, The Strokes, The Verve, The Von Bondies, The White Stripes, Zita Swoon.

The other bands in that map are pretty unknown outside Belgium.

Good metal bands in my map: Tool, Machine Head, Metallica, SOAD, Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Rammstein. I'm not much of a metal fan, so that's all. I'll just shut up about post-rock or soft-rock or you'll hate me. What do you think about those bands, or the ones you know from the list, then?

Well, when all you do in pretty much every other topic is post that the band sucks in some shape or form without ever motivating your opinion, it's not too hard not to notice a pattern...

Take it up in private you two. -.-

sigh oh well.... figures id be sick on their last tour... but the good news is that hiatus doesnt mean "break up" the time between toxicity and mezmerize is considered a "hiatus"

Sigs made by Runemetsa, Nuzza, Dark_Shadow, Kuroi and Me.

liquid blobs attacking eachother

American Anime... YAY!

It's a shame, but i'm glad i got to see them live before they split.

Their first album is easily my favourite but i've liked pretty much everything they've brought out.

Kirk and Lars I could handle. At the same time.
Take it up in private you two. -.-

It's kinda hard when he does it to everyone in every topic.

But back on topic: That's dissapointing, to say the least.

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

What's hard about clicking icon_pm.gif?

Then I'm happy. Though it would've been better if you said which bands sucked, because now I can just as well interpret that you dislike everything else in there. Which I would find odd.

I've heard almost all of those bands in there, the others just aren't my thing, I don't hate em, I also don't like em. Honourable mentions of hate only goes to The White Stripes, because Meg White is the most untalented drummer to ever live; and to Nirvana, the most over-rated band of all time.

Nirvana are the most over-rated band of all time.

I could not agree more.

Anyway back on topic... I've only started listening to them recently (In the last year or so) so this news annoys me a little as i have never had the chance to see them live.

PS. Hi Reich, delete me on RS if you havent already... i got banned lol.

Pity this.

They really were something I'd like to keep alive. But what can you do.
