Sword sheaths

Mind you For those who do not know what a sheath is. A sheath is a case for the blade of a knife, sword, or other cutting implement.

This would make the game more realistic becuase really no one is gonna be carrying their sword the whole time and so i suggest that the use of a sheath is needed. It would be more less another way to carry your Short and long swords and well as dagger - Simular to the alternate way to carry a 2 handed Sword.

It could be made that You would have to take your sword out of the sheath before it can be used or that you would automaticly unsheath ur sword when ur about to attack.

I see That there could be several ways this could be done. First have the sheath on the players back or around his waist.

Then The sheath Could either come with the weapon or be bought seperately.

There could also be like a new spot on the body (like where u weild a shield) just for the sheath either on the back or on the waist. Thats all up to jagex.

There is a possible reason to use a sheath I do suggest that it be nonmember expectally if you dont need to buy a sheath seperately. Due to most swords you buy come with there own sheath. I also suggest the use of many different types of sheaths like capes... There are all different colors of capes so there should be many different types of sheaths. Like if u can buy them seperately Then there should be many different types. And maybe swords comewith a plain boring sheaf and u can buy cooler looking sheaths seperately. Or they Could be quest rewards.

I see many ways to work sheaths into the Game.

ok this is something some1 mentioned and i really like the idea... probably possibly the most simple idea of all.

I dont like the idea of another item to clutter my inventory/bank further however if they were to implement them into the character models so that when you aren't weilding a weapon but still equiped it is attached to your belt (for swords, daggers, crossbows, coiled whip etc) or for larger items they are on your back (battleaxes, warhammers, maces, all 2h weapons, bows with arrow pouch)

This could also be used with the belt suggestion made here But its not what im talking about.

Anyone wanna comment?

Also heres the names that want a petition for jagex to make this item a reality.

Yeah i see what your saying... a little sword holder type thing...? so then it doesnt look like your carrying a weapon and still saves you that one inventory slot. I don't think it could work with like certain barrow items/2 handed items. Imaging a granite maul in your sheath or whatever you call it...

I think this is a great idea (in fact i was thinking about suggesting this myself) although i think they should be called scabbards (synonym, but with a less difficult-to-pronounce plural) and should be purely visual - whenever you have a sword equipped you see a scabbard at your waist

Why bother having all the confusion of putting your weapon in the scabbard - if it means you have to take it out before combat then everyone will just leave it out

Oh and yes scabbards for scimitars would be difficult, but true scimitars didnt have broad blades, they were just curved (so you could sheath (verb :D ) them

Heh, something to add and think about here...

If you add weapon sheaths, a player could have several weapons equipped at one time, taking less backpack space, and allowing for more controls in the "Attack Style" section of your panel. Of course, then Jagex would have to enable your profile to remember everything you're carrying when you log off as well as what style you have selected for those weapons, but I think this is a great idea. Could even have dynamic weapon swap animations.

***Happily imagines watching his character rapidly swap between a Scimitar, 2-Hander, Air Staff, and Maple Shortbow...***

True Coolness!!!

:mrgreen: :D \:D/ :thumbsup: ::' :idea: =D> :twisted: 8-)

I have often thought about the idea of sheaths myself. I don't know if it's just my imagination, but people seem to think there would be a sheath for every weapon. There won't be. Sheaths would only come with the longsword, short sword, dagger, skimmy, and possible the 2h.

My random ideas:

There would be shops scattered around Runescape, where sheaths are sold. The sheath would automatically come with a sort of belt that ties it around a characters waste. Scabbards would probably cost roughly a couple hundred gp each.

There would be different types of sheaths (or scabbards). There would be one for each type of sword. You would have to buy whichever scabbards you wanted to use.

Scabbards would hold one blade, allowing someone to equip another weapon without having to store the sword in their inventory. For example, let's say you were a mage that was wielding a staff, but wanted a blade for close combat. You could equip the scabbard and put a sword in it. Then, if you needed to use it, you could just click on the scabbard and select "Unsheath Sword". That would switch the sword with the staff, and put the staff in your inventory.

2h'er scabbards would attack to your back, since they are so large.

Those are some random ideas that you can add to yours if you wish. I do ask for some credit though.

finally someone gets it right. I think that all the scabards would be stored on your waist (or belt), except the 2h one, which is stored on your back, for obvious reasons

The skimitars in Runescape are similar to the Chinese Broadswords. The blade has that same wide width, and yet I have a scabbard that it fits snugly in. The scabbard is as broad as the sword.

I would still like to see additional hold methods for such items as staffs and bows... And have it managed from the 'crossed swords', aka the "Combat Style" control panel...

I beg to differ. In reality to sheath your bow it would usually be bent in to a verticle position in a sense and put in to a round case in which you would swing over your back with a strap going around your chest. It does take longer to un-sheath but when slung over your back using the bow string, the bow string is prone to snap and or chocking of the weilder.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

Not if you're wearing a harness of special design with the ability to hold the bow by the handle, not in a case. It then becomes simple as un-snapping a holding lock or two and just taking direct hold of the bow handgrip...

***imagines the interesting flourish this would have to it***

You're very welcome. ::'

Btw, as a thought expansion, this could also be done for the Mage Staffs in a similar manner, maybe through belt-style ties and added harnessing. Could carry many staffs at one time, without the overload in the inventory.

Bows are generally slung around the should (I believe) or unstrung and stored in the quiver. If you were to string your bow, you be able to store the bow string in the quiver as well. Not only that, but when you unstring a bow, no experience should be given, and the bow string produced from unstringing would be different then that of a regular bow string. The bow produced would also not require any fletching level to be strung again, as long as the string used is the original. On top of that, instead of allowing for an unlimited amount of arrows to be equiped, quivers should be worn that hold set amount of arrows and a required ranged level to equip. they would be made from hides of all kinds and each kind of hide would hold differnt amounts of arrows. Also there would be a magic quiver that requires atleast 75 ranged to equip and holds unlmited arrows. Also, at a certain point your quiver will be able to hold your bow when it is strung. Also, there shouold be a minor update to range in which it shows the player actually drawing an arrow from your quiver, not jsut magically making an arrow appear in you hands, notched and ready to shoot. By the way I am not a ranger, I just enjoy writing suggestions as I see them as stories and I find that writing stories takes a bit too long for my liking, so I settle with suggestions.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

i only read the first post so sorry if im reiterating what someone else already said...

cool idea, but i think that even if the weapon just went to your hip or back when you put it away and hung there (as if by straps, so the weapon is exposed and identifiable anyways) this way jagex adds no new items (as cool as they may be) and it adds a bit of realism to the game. =)

hmmmm, somone posted you could have multiple wepeons without adding to your inventory space but how many would be to many? maybe only a hip "sheath" (shhh ill call it a sheath =) a Shoulder Slung Sheath (2h Wepeons, Staffs etc and The Quiver that holds your bow idea (but why add complexity of making the string another item just When you "quiver" your Bow it would automatically Unstring and visa versa. this allows the player to mage range and melee without taking up to much space and it wont destroy the melee pkers out there that love to whip out the good Old 2H ("thinks of good old RSC days") for that elusive KO hit that ive seen done.

I like this idea, cuz if we have selths then everyone could be ready for wepons with 2 hands.

For a reson i'll never understand ppl don't like ideas until there thinking about it. That's what ppl who come up with ideas do, get ppl thinking about it.
