Emergency Room... Ouch

It was my mom's birthday, so she picked me up from work, and took us to the movies with her. I was limping and my mom asked me what was wrong. I told her nothing, because I knew it was bad, but I didn't want to ruin her b-day. My toe was hurting really bad. She told me to show her, so I did. It was pink, blood and puss coming out. She took me to the ER, where the doctor examined my foot. He said that if I had waited 2+ weeks, they would've had to amputate my foot, since the infection spreads rapidly. How it started was I had an in-grown toe nail and went to my uncle's house to help him move. I picked up a sludge hammer, and it slipped, hitting my toe. I didn't scream or cry , I just shook it off like normal because I was used to hitting my toe with it having an in-grown. It got infected and that's why I ended up there. They said my toe is the worst they've seen in my stage (There's like 4 stages, mine was like 3 1/2 :-w) They actually talked to me about losing my foot :| They are telling me to take it easy, take a bunch of pills, and get surgery on tuesday or wednesday.

That's actually the non-gross one. My other side was so gross, my mom said not to post it.

I had to draw a black line around the red area and if it pasts it, then I go into surgery immediatly.

Did you just not know your toe was that bad, or are you just stupid lol #-o . If I had something like that I'm pretty sure I would tell someone.

That looks really painful. I hope you get well soon =).

Btw, does anyone feel like giving me a brief description of an in-grown toenail? I don't care to look it up =D.

It's where your toenail does not grow properly and digs into the surrounding skin, starting an infection. It can also happen to fingernails.

0.o I've had a toe that looked like that before. I waited untill the toenail grew out enough for me to cut at the right angle and rip it out :\

Worries me a bit.

I've got an ingrown toenail in both of my big toes. Once a month I just dig 'em out. It's gotten infected once, but I caught it the day it got infected and got some antibiotics to clear it up right away.

I've had 'em for about a year now :P; I just need to do the ol' gouge-out every now and then to keep it under control.

Same for my right big toe. The tip is to keep it trimmed and under control. There is rarely ever a cure, aside from ripping out the entire toenail. Just routine hygiene will prevent any problems, though. It's fairly common these days thanks to ill-fitting tight shoes.

Had ingrown nails in both of big toes, same thing but a little better. If I bumped them they'd hurt like hell and puss would come out. #-o

What I did to get rid of mine was cut a V shape in the middle of the nail with nail clippers. Fixed them up good. :)

I have know 2 people who have had the black line thing (both faimly). One of them was on an arm and he didn't think it was serious, waited a couple of days before going to the hospital and ended up being there for 1 day and he had to go back to get it observed. The other was an infected achilies tendon, he was down for weeks. hope you get beter (don't worry though, neither of them needed surgery).

I've had this toe in-grown for about six months :-k, and they other one for a year. I got the other one to go away after trimming it once, but this one didn't. My mom is freaking out. Usually, I would've not told her, and just trimmed it every so often.
