Dont go to brand-name boards right away...

go to wal-mart and buy a generic one, they are cheap, and good enough to practice on... once you feel your ready step it up to pro-boards (Element, Flip, Habitat) ect...

As for learning ollies ect... done go for that right away... try some basic manuvers like manuals and things that test your balance and train your "inner gyro" as i like to call it. Once you've dont that it will make it ALOT easier to ollie... it will make it so you lift off with balance, and land with balance.

Some minor tips

-keep ur shoulders level with the board.

-Rear foot on the tail, front foot right behind the front trucks.

---Snap your back foot and make the tail of the board "smack" the ground and lift ur front foot in the process. For extra height use your back foot like a spring, and launch your self (jump) at the same time, keep level and slightly move your front foot forward and land.

--good luck, it takes time.

Don't expect to get the tricks down on the first try. It will never happen, even for the pros.

I suggest not doing any tricks for about 1-2 weeks and just ride around getting a good feel for the board anf get some good balance. Learn the ins and outs of turning and how not to get off balance when you push.

After you feel comfortable with all of that move on to the ollie, practice this trick as much as possible. It is the stepping stone for every other trick. Try practicing of the grass or a carpet (ask you parents first) to get down the motion and the trick so you can try them moving. All tricks are better when you have speed, be riding when preforming tricks. Trust me, if you get a feel for doing all your tricks moving it will help you out later doing tougher tricks.

Oh yeah this is kinda of obvious but get some skate shoes, don't use basketball shoes or anything because they will rip easier and you may not be able to preform tricks as good or at all.

If you have Itunes there's a podcast called DC Trick Tips, it shows you how to do some more advanced tricks. It's helped me out a lot.

I wouldn't go buy a Wal-mart cheapo. It may be a cheap board to learn on, but I've rode one of those before...They barely even move. The wheels are made of, like, hard plastic and they barely spin. Honestly, just do it right and get a decent one. :P

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

..actually my first board was a 25% wal-mart Mongoos board, it had everything a normal board would have.. its just not brand name

i understand some of them are cheap and have plastic bearings :uhh: i have skated with one of them before, they are not as bad as they seem, just loosen the trucks and stuff and you have a good beginners board.

But Im glad i went through two 25$ boards before making my custom 170$ board :) if i went straight to that i would have had it all chipped, and would of ended up buying another one.

I was lucky. When I started skating my friend gave me his old board :D .

Anyways, just practice realy is all I can say. Get used to the board and start trying stuff. I can't realy be much a help after that (I've quit skating)

Here are some things that should help:

- Use the words 'phat', 'sick' and 'rad' a lot

- Wear your trousers so that half of your boxer-shorts-clad arse is sticking out the top

- Remember - the more obscure bands you like, the cooler you are

Some people are changed by being a moderator. I wouldn't be.

Go to sportchek and get a world industries board. Dont buy walmart, they SUCK TO LEARN WITH.

Buy a blank deck. They're cheaper but good to learn with.

As for an ollie - if you want one tip to keep your mind on - make absolute sure that the tail of your board "smacks" the ground. If this doesn't happen, you'll never leave the ground.

I guess Anesthesia must have run into a group of kids just trying to fit into thats stereotype, who dont actually skate.

It sucks that the public has these kind of generalisations, but i guess thats how it goes.

I started with a Complete (Deck, trucks, berrings, wheels) from World Industries. You -MAY- be able to find one at a Walmart, but it's unlikely. Go to a skate shop and ask about some kind of cheap complete board.

And a good tip, NEVER STOP PRACTICING. >_<

Umm.. I think you should think about that.. Pro decks cost a lot. For someone who is new to skating then learning on a crappy board is good. You master all the little problems that you don't have to worry about on a nice board and you don't f* up a $100+ board just learning to do simple tricks. Walmart boards aren't as bad as you think either. I always bought my boards at Walmart (I bought the X-games cause they seemed to be the best of all the choices there) but eventually got tired of skating and quit.

Also.. Back when I skated everyone wore the pants that let half your arse show but it seems now they've gone to tight 'girl' pants.

Well, make sure to NOT get a wallmart board. No matter how decent people say they are for learning, they are horrible. When i first started skating I used a roughed up element my friend gave me. But also while i was still beginning I tried one of my friends wallmart boards, and lets just say they are soo different it isnt even funny. A blank deck is good, they are cheaper then the brand name ones, and just get decent cheap trucks, wheels and like bones reds berrings or something.

As for learning to ollie, yeah everyone else basically said it lol. Just practice alot, and dont get mad. It took me around 1 month to learn to ollie, while it took my friends like a week. Just remember not to get too frustrated, thats what leads to a broken board haha. Just practice, practice, practice. Determination will get you far. And dont settle for walmart boards, its easyer to learn on a regular board. Yeah, well.. thats about all i gotta say, probly a repeat of what everyone else said but whateva lol. :XD:

That made me lol irl for some reason.

I don't really have any tips, because I can barely move on a board, balace is the key though, so get down balance before you try any tricks.

i have to agree with everyone about the wal mart boards, do NOT use them. i skated on one of them for about 3 months, couldnt get anything done on one of those. i got a pro board and boom everything was better. whatever u do just keep trying, took me about 5 months to get my ollie to where it is now  i guess im just slow lol, its been over a year and a half since i started skating and i still cant land a heelflip or kickflip :wall:
