Well my uncle is a big fan of Pink Floyd, and he plays guitar alot also.

Now I play guitar too (7 years to be exact) and I think Pink Floyd suits the music I like.

Is it worth it to buy pink floyd cds?

Im searching at wikipedia right now, who likes Pink Floyd here?

any info about them? :|

Pink Floyd are a fantastic band, excellent music, always made for the sake of music.

If you're looking into buying a few albums, the Echoes greatest hits style album isn't a bad start, but buying Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon would give you a good feel for Pink Floyd.

Was there anything specific you wanted to know about them?

Another point.

If you're interested in playing Pink Floyd stuff on your guitar, try and work out how David Gilmour had his guitar rigged. Some songs he has a lot of reverb, or echo, or uses other techniques, and it can be frustrating trying to get your guitar the same.

You should be okay though if you have 7 years experience.

Also, don't neglect the early Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, it's a bit more psychadelic than their later stuff but still very good.

If you like the gritty side of Pink Floyd try The Wall, for more elegant soundscapes Wish You Were Here and The Division Bell are safe bets.

If you want to get into Floyd I can recommend starting with their greatest hits CD echoes. As it features songs from every period. It's great for orientation, and you will hear what type of floyd fits best with you. Darkside of the Moon is my favorite album from them.

As said, get the Echo's album. For the reasons mentioned above. Floyd are one of the greatest bands to ever play, but they use alot of sound effects so are hard to capture or play on a guitar with an amp.

Dark Side Of The Moon is my favourite album get that after the echoes if you like it.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Get Echoes too, i'm sure you know the more popular ones but for the full experience you need to play a whole album straight through. It's like a book of moods and emotions.

Like most people have said get Echoes first and see what you like. Some of their older stuff (Saucerful of Secrets, Momentary Lapse of Reason etc.) might give you the wrong idea of theirstyle, because it does kind of change. The Wish You Were Here album is excellent as are Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall (watch the movie too!)

I disgree, I think he should start with something like Wish You Were Here. I don't think you get the full understanding of their greatness from a compliation, since they are so much about the album. Maybe Wish You Were Here (even better when you understand the reasoning behind it all)...Maybe Animals...(same, to an extent). I started with DSotM, and I don't think I was able to fully enjoy it because it was too good. I wish I had eased in, and braced myself for it.

C'mon guys, the breakthrough era albums were good, but let's not forget that they were a direct result of Syd's influences. I reccomend Piper at The Gates of Dawn, listen to "Insterstellar Overdrive", it's truly a genius work.

Before you do this, push "play" and then immediately "pause", so the CD is loaded when you are ready to push "play" again. I don't know if this is necessary but I do believe some CD players take a few seconds to load to disc after you push play.

This page apparantly has directions (though I just Googled it so I don't know if it's right).

You can't get the full understanding on first hearing. You need to play it more often. Wish You Were Here would be, I think, the album you could least appreciate. As he's not known with style, or history. I'm not saying Echoes is the best floyd album. But it is best when you are starting to listen to them. It covers all periods, Barrett, Gilmour and post Waters. From here you can orientate on what sound appeals most to you. And you automatically have a little bit of background on the band as well. Don't rush things, learn about it first. And then play the albums. Otherwise you might get a nasty surprise, as you had.

I think they are a band that are very well appreciated listening to an album all the way through, but Echoes is pretty good really, the songs flowed surprisingly well for a compilation album, it's definitely a good start.

I couldn't recommend Wish You Were Here more, it's one of my favourite albums of all time, but Dark Side Of The Moon is a good start as well for one of their concept albums.

The P*U*L*S*E dvd is also well worth it, achingly beautiful stuff.

I agree Echoes on the way to go first. He needs to listen and get into them before he goes all out on Wish You Were Here.

When you put it that way, your probably right.

I actually own Echoes, but I don't believe I've ever actually listened to it.
