F2p high level melee training (September 2006) (AoW)

If you are strictly after melee xp, the best beast to train on is one with low defense, yes, but also one whose HP level is just above your max hit. A particular hit on a Hob will give you the same xp as that same hit on an Ice Giant. The point is to kill the creature and then move to the next as quickly as possible. If you choose the right beast it will usually only take you a few hits (2 is very good), and you won't waste time going after food because you won't need that much. I use a strength ammy, and ALWAYS use pot (the bigger the hit, the more xp toward HP).

Training on Ice Giants means you have to deal with Ice Warriors at first, and that can be a frustrating waste of time. They also do NOT have low defense. And besides that, the number of Ice Giants is limited. Unless you have the opportunity to play at wierd hours it's kind of tough to find a world where there is only one other person for any length of time. Jumping worlds all the time can be time consuming.

I would have to throw my hat in the ring with goodcountry. I, too, prefer low level creatures in the Security Stronghold.

By the way...my cb is 114 (getso is not my rs name).

Good guide (Rating 7/10 - mainly as I don't like the Ice caves :(), but as recommended with Dharocking... Do not keep your health below 5 - mainly because if an evil chicken springs up your doomed, and if you turn protect from magic on you may get hit hard by the giant or an ice warrior.

I'm going to try this method soon :) Thank you!

English isn't your first language, is it?

Anyway, with 20 trout I last almost 2 hours. Personally, I only use salmon and up, but trout is extremely cheap. Yes, lobster is better, but trout works too.

And, the teles are to really speed up banking time.

The only green is addy and d'hide. Neither is any good for melee training.

And if you know how to get 60k combat xp an hour in f2p, please share.

Also, if you post on this thread again please be sure to make sense and check spelling so I can understand what you're trying to say.

Great guide. I personally train at the wilderness spot too. And also, they have very (and i mean VERY) low defence. I hit almost 90% of the time with ranged on them.

Yeah. 40 isn't it?

Very nice guide but the fact of the matter is almost all the ice caves are overcrowded in f2p and there are only 2 ice giants. It would be very lucky of you to be the only one fighting the ice giants when you reach the cave.

3 actually. I can usually find an empty world within 3 switches.

Even better, wildy guide is now up.

It isn't quite complete, but at least its up.

I would like some feedback and ideas for improvement.

I saw you added the wildy giants. They're very nice, Ive made over 1.5m just from the cosmics there.

Im credited =)

Also 2 questions about the guide.

1. If you're already in lumby after the tele, why not just use the new bank there?

2. Are kebabs that good, Ive never tryed them? If they're random do they still average out better than 12 from lobs?

Kebabs FTW!

This is a very well done guide, 9.5/10 in my opinion.

You need to go to Al-kharid anyway for the kebabs. If you don't use kebabs, or have some banked, then the lumby bank is better.

I've found kebabs to be better, healing about 14 on average (1 healed me from 59 to 83 hp - my max is 83). However, it is random, so you may have some really short loads and some really long loads.

Great guide and update, I might go there sometime, i'll probably go to the wildy though! Since i've become f2p I usually train at the skeletons outside elvarg however*cough location* :P . I find it to be decent exp, but i'll give yours a try. Have you or anyone else for that matter tried the skele's outside elvarg? and what do ya think of it?

I c where ur coming from, but it is gud to kill creatures with high xp. For example if ur killing something with 20hp and ur max hit is 18, which is something like ur suggesting, slightly above max hit. Then say u hit a 14 at the start, then at best ur nxt hit will b 6. 2 hits = 20 hp =80exp. But a creature wit 60hp, say u hit ur 14 again, then ur nxt hit can still b anywhere be anywhere between 0-18. Therefore max possible exp in 2 hits = 18+18=144exp. Prob wont b as high as this but almost certainly will b higher than the 80exp from the low lvl creature.

I've tried them. I've found the xp difference to be very small. Also, you get much less prayer xp, and almost no drops worth picking up.

However, they are slightly faster xp if that's all you care about.

I might add those to a later version of this guide.

I recommend that once you reach about 40 hp and no food you use prayer, but leave a little unless you need to protect item. Once you're down to your reserve prayer, leave. See section 2 for more details.
theres an altar about 6 danger lvls lower, so you can recharge over there, on your way back, it doesn't make that much of a difference, but i thought i'd tell you :)

Just noticed you added the Wilderness spot.

Nooo! That is... really really bad. Once you get low on Hitpoints you should never use Protect from Melee Prayers simply because of how fast they drain now. I've got 60 Prayer and Protect from Melee lasts literally 3 minutes 14 seconds (just timed it) which seriously doesn't justify walking back down to the altar and back up again.

Instead the Prayer I constantly have on (except on full health) is Rapid Heal (double hitpoints restore). In about 10 minutes of having it on it makes up for having an extra 2 Lobsters in healing time for me.

Also the point you made about food for the Wilderness, it's much better to bring a Lobster Pot with you and Fish Lobsters while in the Wild still so you don't have to spend so long walking back in.

The Fishing spot is in level 38ish on the East side of the Wilderness and the cooking spot is 3 clicks West at the Chaos Dwarf camp. Saves a huge amount of time and more healing than Kebabs. ::'

why kebabs? i think they can heal like +4/5, +15, +0 and -4, why are they better than lobsters or sworfishes?

I've found they heal -4 (rare), 0 (rare), 9 (very common), 15 (common), or 26 with +2 to attack, strength, and defence (rare).

I have tried comparing a load of lobsters with a load of kebabs, and got 12 more cosmics (at the respawn in wildy, a good timing system) with kebabs than with lobs. So, kebabs heal a bit better on average, and are 200 times cheaper.

I will expiriment with rapid heal v.s. melee protect. I'm not quite sure which one works better, but bong0 makes a good point.

However, I do NOT think walking across the wildy to lvl 38 on the other side is a good idea. It puts you in commonly p'ked multi combat areas. And when you include the time for actually fishing there, its actually significantly slower.

Since this is much farther from a bank, you'll want better food. I recommend lobster or up, but if you really follow this guide you don't need to worry much about food. You'll be using the best food, kebabs (explained later).

I'm terribly sorry, but I can't see where it's explained later.

anyway, very excellent guide. i'm thinking of doing a little melee-ranged training there (the wilderness) to take my mind off of those stupid lesser deamons. The only iddue I have is now I must purchase normal dragonhide, and a normal rune kite (to replace my (h1) and (g)). I simply cannot wait until the stronghold guide is released, as I think it is an excellent place to gain items/exp. It's not as good prayer wise (bones vs. Big bones) as the giants, but is very good in drops. I get all sorts of mithril ore/rune essense from the whateverthey'recallds on the bottom floor. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong anyway? I'll soon find out!

5. Run to Al-kharid bank and deposit loot, take out runes for falador teleport

6.Run just north and buy about 20 kebabs.

7. Repeat from step 1

Anyway, in the stronghold of security, which monsters do you kill? Which ones have good drops and/or good xp?

I never even thought of Ice giants. I was going to go to leesrs, but the way you made the ices sound in the guide makes them sound way more intriguing!

Ill definetly use this to get to 70 defense!
