Cheaper Members' with adverts

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but Jagex should make a cheaper members' version with adverts. If the f2p operating costs can be entirely run on adverts, then the development of p2p isn't that expensive, so there dould be a cheaper version of members'. For those who wanted to, there could be an option to pay an additional fee for either F2P or P2P without adverts.

is very valid. essentially you are suggestion a level of membership cheaper than normal members, but with less costs. the disadvantages can be easily removed. i doubt jagex will ever tread down this path.

I bet jagex could find ways to get around adblockers. For example, in-game bilboards would generate a ton of money.

wow...all the members defiently got members to avoid the adverts. The additional bank space, new quests, new items, 3x the area new weapons and new skills had nothing to do with it.

  • Author

That's exactly what I'm trying to say: most people don't really care about the adverts so why not just make mebers' cheaper by adding them?

You can't block a banner ad.

("\(.:...:.)/")

most of jagex's money comes from members. Let's consider this statistic

850,000 Members of runescape X 5$ Per month=4.25M per month, actually more since some people pay differently and 5 pounds doesn't equal 5 bucks.

4.25M X 12=51M per year. With the server cost, staff pay, i'm still pretty certain that about 30M is enough to run a company.

but the point is, no one buys members to avoid adverts. no one. It's a great benefit admittingly, but i'd defiently prompt (along with most people) to the cheaper version. Let's say that's 3.50 A month. Obviously, this would attract more people and lets say about 1,000,000 Members

1,000,000 Members of runescape X 3.50$ per month=3.5M

3.5M X 12=42M Per year. This leaves a lot less money in the company...

Overall here's the hard fact.

No one buys members for no adverts, it is simply a luxury. For those of you who agree with this, i can obviously tell you are f2p, and are just lazy to pay that measly 5 bucks a month you can get from doing the laundry. So just be a man and do the stupid laundry, k? Also, i don't know where you got the idea that "the development of p2p isn't that expensive" comment from...but it's highly inaccurate, it'd be much more expensive than f2p. The money used to run f2p is from members, not adverts.

I forget the property for 2, but it ain't transitive, Im looking it up in my notes.

Anyway, anyone who agree to pay $5 usully wouldnt mind it staying at that price. I dont know who would want to squeeze the last penny out, but you cant do that with $5. Now if it was someting like WoW then........

but the point is, no one buys members to avoid adverts. no one. It's a great benefit admittingly, but i'd defiently prompt (along with most people) to the cheaper version. Let's say that's 3.50 A month. Obviously, this would attract more people and lets say about 1,000,000 Members

But the ide is that the ads generate two dollars per player per month. Hence, Jagex is getting 5.5 million per month but we pay 3.5 million per month.

Also, it doesn't need to attract new members, as a small decrease might not. It needs to generate more money for the company while letting the players pay less. We pay less, but the ads make up for that, and more.

This really doesn't matter if the ads don't even make up for f2p maintenance. Only Jagex really knows that, I guess.

I learned the transitive property like 3 weeks ago in Geometry! \' 8th grade...

But that's a dumb idea.

you pay a measly 5 dollars a month, besides you pay for the game not not having ads on your screen so how much could jagex knock the price down? 10 cents?

[omg] who cares if its nerfed or fixed....

And (to get back on topic), I agree with Nick's point. If people could pay less and for the same thing with ads, then block the ads, there are plenty of people out there who would.

And as for not caring about the ads, yes, it wasn't originally a reason for me to join members, I would never want them again. They have made me log out a few times when I was typing and tried to backspace.

Well I believe it is called the Law of Syllogism, and it isn't necessarily valid proof.

For example:

Crumbs of a ham sandwich are better than nothing

Nothing is better than God

Crumbs of a ham sandwich are better than God

Oh and if what you say is true, wouldn't:

F2p + Adblocker= Less Cash to Jagex?

I think it's a good idea, but really, isn;t 5 bucks a mo nth cheap enough?

Its a minigame. The first person to catch him gets a Klondike Bar and a handshake from Chuck Norris. Watch out those 2 combined may have adverse effects.

There is a common fee for all credit card transactions, regardless of the amount. It's usually between 30-50 cents US (plus about 2-4% of the transaction fee).

That fee is about 10% of Jagex's monthly charge. Reduce the subscription to $3-4, and that's a massive percentage of Jagex's income going to Mastercard and Visa.

There might be a way to find a happy medium, but my guess is: if you're too "frugal" to pay $5/month, you're probably too frugal to pay $4/month as well, ads or naught.

This would work if the ads generate around a dollar a month and the price is lowered fifty cents. The idea wouldn't be a loss leader, it would be a way to make more $$$ off of members. It wouldn't make me become a member, but if I did, I would definitely take that offfer.
