Hardcore...

I think this kind of music isnt very well known around the world,

but where I live about 75% listens to hardcore. Hardcore was

''invented'' in the Netherlands, and this music is used on parties and such.

I dont understand why people listen to it. Its nothing more then a simple

beat, and every other song is a variation of a simple beat.

Now I know everyone has their own style of music, everyone likes something else.

Do you listen to hardcore (and why)? can you change my statement?

EDIT:

If you never heard Hardcore, here are some links:

yeah its just shorthand. woopidoo2 is talking about hardcore dance...

i love it, it's awesome music. it's hard and intense, makes me wanna go mental...

in 1993 there was an event called Tunnel of Terror. it was a huge tunnel, about 8ft wide both sides but insanely long, filled with speakers in the walls and strobes. music poured out for hours and hours...it's all about the intensity.

It's got a load of sub genres and its called Gabba pretty much everywhere but holland (mostly US/UK whereas the dutch stick to hardcore.)

some sub genres: terrorcore, darkcore, speedcore.

notable artists: Rotterdam Terror Corps, Masters of Ceremonies, Paul Elstak, Ophidian, Neophyte, Evil Activities....

Some clips:

Ohhhh... okay i know what youre talking about. I went to a local show a few weeks ago at a venue I hadnt been to before, and during a breakdown instead of moshing and people beating the snot out of eachother, they were... hardcore dancing :? I thought they were just goofing around but then everybody else started doing it, really funny/stupid looking. It looked like a really angry white-boy dance

Oh man, that's called the Hakku (Jumpstyle)

its an amazing dance, kinda like a hardcore version of skanking...

if anyone can find a clip of people doing it with strobe lights on, it looks absolutely incredible then.

try and find some clips from Sensation Black, but that's Hardstyle...the two genres are similar but distinct differences :)

I'm glad someone clarified that you're talking about some sort of dance/techno/trance genre, cuz thos samples are nowhere near what I would call hardcore. Round here, hardcore is heavy sounding metal or punk, typified by rough, deep vocals. As a couple examples:

http://myspace.com/champion

I do agree with that music you're talking about all sounds the same to me. Every single song in that genre I've ever heard sounds almost exactly like the first one I heard in clubs back in late 80's.

As for that dancing...looks like riverdance to me. I don't see how it's hardcore at all. I've seen skacore skanking that's way more "hardcore" than that.

ah how silly of me for posting about the complete wrong genre. these past 5 years of listening to hardcore i had it all wrong :o

im sure it's different where you live but you don't live in holland, which is what the topic is about.

ask anyone from holland about hardcore and they'll tell you it's not punk, it's hardcore dance.

because that's the hardcore that was invented in holland.

in the netherlands.

which is called hardcore.

from holland.

I understand what you are saying...that it is called that there. I was simply trying to make the point that "hardcore" means something completely different here...It's hard to define...hardcore music is well, hardcore...lol. I didn't mean to imply that you don't have the right to call it hardcore (heck, call it rap if you like). It's just when I saw the topic and listened to the songs, it shocked me that anyone would call that hardcore. Cultural differences :)

Wow. I had no idea how much living in a different place could change the meaning of a word like hardcore. The hardcore in my area is darkish metal riffs with growling vocals.

It's not something I'm going to put on in my car and sing along to but if I was some sort of raver I guess I would like to have it playing while I dance.

Hakkuh is a little bit different than Jumpstyle. As Jumpstyle is a specific music genre and the dance related to it. You "hak" on Hardcore/Gabber w/e you want to call it.

The period I was really into hardcore is like a year or 10 ago. When hardcore was still hardcore. :') I don't really like it anymore, however there still are some tracks that I really apreciate.

As for listening to hardcore, I don't see it as something you just put on when you're doing homework, or to relax to under the headphones. More as to party on. And it's excellent for that.

As for tunnel of terror. It's quite amazing. It's so insanely fast you can hardly keep up with it. ID&T released two albums of it back in the day. The first one, a bleading ear with a nail in it. And the second one a scuba mask with a bullet hole in it.

I can't remember much exact artist, I'd have to go trough my CD's to find them out, but some noteable artist: The Prophet (older work; a year or 12 ago), Bass D. and King Matthew, Rob Gee, Neophyte (again older work, don't know their recent work), Dj. Dellerium, Dj Buzz Fuzz and Dj. Gizmo. I'll look up some others later.

I think living in that area would be cool for that reason itself, I'm really into metal, but not so much into the satanic metalcore deathmetal stuff that is sometimes accompanied with the Netherlands ( and around that area, can't name any other places off the top of my head atm. ) I am more into melodic metal, not so much into the mindless groaning moaning, loud bass, and mindless " non melodic " style of playing that is metalcore/hardcore.

^ At least that is if we're on the same page, I might be talking about something else.. There are so many sub-genres of metal, it's hard to remember them all. :x
