Fadfdfd
They claimed it was all fake, and they'd steal your money, or something along those lines. :-s I just had an argument about this with my father who claimed I was 'dumb' for playing online. He claimed none of the players are real, they're machines, and that the sites are all designed to steal your money. Sure, he has gambled before, but he obviously knows nothing about Texas Hold'em. You don't play against the house. You play against other players who can chat and win and lose just like you. He is too paranoid. And if you play for play chips only, how will the sites ever take your money? And if you do play for small sums like $100, if you lose it all, wow, you lose 1/6th of the sum you could probably make in a week. If you win, you had fun and you made a profit. Known sites with millions of active players like partypoker.com can't be scams. Their source codes have been reverse engineered and checked by independent programmers on many forums to check for any suspiciousness. Not only that, if everybody was reporting that they're only losing money on the site, don't you think the word would spread quite fast and if you searched their name on google, you'd get a ton of warning sites? Like they say, and Vegas operation people do say this, they'd rather see you lose a little bit of money and have fun than get drunk and lose a ton of money.. BlueLancer
Meh, I still prefer (or would prefer) real casinos. It's the atmosphere. But I still can't help thinking why those commercials ran than? :-k I prefer real casinos too by far and would be much readier to spend money there than online. Still, I'd like to punch the commercial maker in the face. It's a ridiculous statement that every poker site out there is a scam that's designed to take your money. As I said, if you play TH'em for example, there isn't even a 'house' to profit from you, just other players (who are NOT computers, whether some people like to believe so or not). What does the site gain from 'scamming' you?

AniseCookies
I play online at PartyPoker occasionally, but only for play money. My game isn't good enough to risk the real stuff yet. Online gambling is illegal now? I play Hold'em.
____
I play online at PartyPoker occasionally, but only for play money. My game isn't good enough to risk the real stuff yet. Online gambling is illegal now? I play Hold'em.Online gambling (for money) has always been illegal in the USA - the last change to the laws relating to it actually makes the banks and such enforce it. You can no longer transfer money from your bank account to an online gambling website. Can't even use Paypal either now that I think about it. You're essentially down to one option, and that's the wire it to an offshore business (like paypal) then back to the gambling.
Oy_the_Great
A friend of mine is amazing in texas hold 'em. He and a couple of his fellow physics students play on PartyPoker and one of them has won 17,000 $ in one single month, playing about 4 hours a day. My friend won about 3,000$ in the year he's been playing, which comes down to 20$ an hour. If I could be as good as one of them, I'd play for half a year and start my own stock business, since that's my branche, meanwhile still playing from time to time. I only play against bots or irl with some friends for beer. We never overdo it. If I watch one of my mate's games, he casually loses 150$ in one move and wins 250 in another. It's mindboggling if you know how much beer that is ;) Bill Hicks[/url]":dhj2kan9]Since the one thing we can say about fundamental matter is, that it is vibrating. BlueLancer
Haha, if anybody wants to play, I'm now online on partypoker in the 50/100 blind bet room 4071770 (holdem). Kicking people left and right with $84k chips after 1 hour, nobody else has even $15k 8-)

assassin_696
Yeah i'm steadily getting into texas hold'em on the Casino Royal website. It's fairly easy to get started with. I'd only use fake money online though, i'd prefer to be able to read people's faces before using real money. warri0r45
I only play Texas Hold'em though. It's fun, and if you know how to play and control yourself/read other players, you can make stable profits and lose little. i agree. i think there is no such thing as a 'good' poker player, as the hand your delt is all down to luck, you can be a smart player, however. PhaperPlane
Texas Hold em' is very enjoyable, I play with my mates and I kinda own them, I bluff for one turn then when I have a good hand, I pretend to bluff and it works like a charm : I play it with my family sometimes as well but they can't beat me with my 1337 skills :XD:

Bubsa
I'd only use fake money online though, i'd prefer to be able to read people's faces before using real money. To be honest, you won't learn anything through playing with play money online. People cold call for the hell of it, see the blind with whatever hand, just because they can. If you want to learn, make a deposit and play the micro hands. Full Tilt goes down to $0.01/$0.02 blinds I think. The best way to learn is through a Sit n Go tournament. You can find really cheap buy ins and will encounter 'realistic' play due to the other players wanting to win the prize at the end. Better yet, enter a freeroll competition (guess what, it's free!) that acts as a qualifier for a latter tournament. If you win, hey! You've qualified for a potential cash prize for free! ;) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

That's all, hope you can help me :) Theoretically, you can't play even for fun if you're under 18. Practically, nobody takes it seriously. There are millions of underage poker players, just because they're 17 for example is not going to stop them. This is a case of ridiculous rules when it comes to play money. If you don't gamble anything, it should be allowed even for a 5 year old. They *do* sell chocolate cigarettes to children too, and nobody's blaming them for trying to get kids hooked on tobacco. Most reliable sites use a client for playing, it does improves the security and trusthworthiness of the site. You could try poker at yahoo.com, they should still have online versions. I remember people are jerks there though, they just go all-in with every single hand, and when they run out of cash, daddy yahoo fills up their purses and they repeat. That way you have no way of knowing who has good hands and who hasn't. Everybody just goes all-in, hoping their cards beat the river, which is ridiculously dumb. That's not poker, go check out if they still do that...

BlueLancer
As you probably figured out, PartyPoker has a "18+" sign on the site. I do know huge amounts of people like 16 and 17 that do play, and I couldn't care less. If I had a 13 year old kid (your age), I would definitely let him play for fake money on PartyPoker. You'll have to ask your parents if they agree though. If they don't, theoretically you can't play the game. post Too true. But fortunately there *are* some 'real' players on PP on the play money tables that do play sensibly. You'll just have to find those tables, and leave the ones where everyone always blinds $10k even with crappy cards.

True, and you'll find these players away from the commercially whored rooms like PartyPoker. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
