Poker?

Any of you here play the great game of poker regularly (real life or online?)

There are 2 casinos near my area, and those are the only places where I spend real money at (usually just in the hundreds though, but it's fun watching the $50k+ games sometimes, not to mention, damn, those betting plates are cooler than chips)

Online, I just play for fun on partypoker and occassionally other sites. I know darkrick plays too but I'm wondering if anybody else here likes playing sometimes.

I only play Texas Hold'em though. It's fun, and if you know how to play and control yourself/read other players, you can make stable profits and lose little.

Where do you play at? I'm 18 in live in Pennsylvania, but I recently went to Turning Stone Casino in Oneida NY. Played the 1-2 no limit, 100 max. Very easy game to beat, left up around 300.

Such a simple start to the post. Poker is such a great game. So simple in rules but the depth of the game goes so deep. I dont want to see anyone posting that the game is all luck. It is so much more than the cards you are delt.

Yea, I can play all forms except for Ohmaha :-?

Hold-Em is perhaps the easiest game to read anyone.

It's more working on the probabilities and what they've bet.

Haven't been to there, I often play at the MGM casino in DE area though. The limit sounds fair too if you aren't willing to lose a lot.

And to the above post by Viktor... You preload the credits. :P And at least on partypoker there are tables with the blind at like $0.02, even if you lose money, you'll lose next to nothing. If you make money, you can progress to higher tables.

Or just play for fun, and you can use play chips. :)

I play a fair bit. I avoid PartyPoker as and when I can, too many bad beats due to their bloody fairness policy.

I'd recommend Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars. Both newbie friendly, plenty of expert advice, generous bonuses and countless fish/maniacs to prey on.

Same here, except i dont play Razz or Hi/Lo

Honestly razz just makes you want to shoot someone after you play a hand.

I swear I remember watching commercials a while ago about how online gambling was illegal and dangerous. :-k

Yep, the cops came over to my house and arrested me for a good 3 years when they found out I was playing Texas Hold'em for play chips online. Also, I broke my leg and nose while playing online. So I'd say both are true.

No, I seriously remember such commercials. I know, because my mom wanted to do it, and I told her not to, because I saw some illegal gambling commercials. They claimed it was all fake, and they'd steal your money, or something along those lines. :-s

I just had an argument about this with my father who claimed I was 'dumb' for playing online. He claimed none of the players are real, they're machines, and that the sites are all designed to steal your money.

Sure, he has gambled before, but he obviously knows nothing about Texas Hold'em. You don't play against the house. You play against other players who can chat and win and lose just like you. He is too paranoid.

And if you play for play chips only, how will the sites ever take your money? And if you do play for small sums like $100, if you lose it all, wow, you lose 1/6th of the sum you could probably make in a week. If you win, you had fun and you made a profit.

Known sites with millions of active players like partypoker.com can't be scams. Their source codes have been reverse engineered and checked by independent programmers on many forums to check for any suspiciousness.

Not only that, if everybody was reporting that they're only losing money on the site, don't you think the word would spread quite fast and if you searched their name on google, you'd get a ton of warning sites?

Meh, I still prefer (or would prefer) real casinos. It's the atmosphere.

But I still can't help thinking why those commercials ran than? :-k
