Time Travel? possible?

Just something I thought up.

Every time you pas the international dateline, you go back a day, WHAT IF there was a vehicle that could travel around the world once an hour, based on the timezones, would you go back in time? would the time space continum rupture? are speeds of that even attainable? looking for thoughts.

Going past the international date line does nothing. I've crossed it over 10 times, if not 20. All it is is a way to keep the eastern hemisphere away from the west. Nothing happens when you cross it, you don't fly back in time or anything.

Then...you'd be back where you started, albeit you arrived there at an astronomical rate.

So what would flying around the world do? If you fly across all the time zones, your back at the one you started in. Unless you've completed that trip in negative time, time has passed, instead of time not passing.

If he could fly around the world in around an hour, he would in fact be a time traveler. In the time it would take him to fly around the world, he would, in fact, travel almost an hour foward in time. Granted, this is no faster than he would have traveled in time otherwise.

Time Travel is all heavily theorized. Like, more than anything. If you look on youtube for Time Travel, there is a BBC report or something that is very interesting, but it's soooo heavily theorized.

For example, there are a select few Astronauts who have flown on so many missions that they are technically ahead of us in time by a fraction of a second or whatever. Obviously, they're still walking around with us here, though.

And flying around the Earth at an hour per revolution wouldn't do much of anything, that's pretty slow in Light-Speed terms. :P

There was a thread about this just a while ago, it was about a BBC document on time travel. I can't find it right now, but you can read about it here.

Time travel is, and probably will be, possible in to the future. It already happens in small scale when astronauts reach stunning speeds, though they only go about 0.1 seconds in the future.

It will be never possible to go back in time though, i.e. the time before the 'time machine' was built for example.

How can they be 0.1 seconds in the future? Even if they were traveling 5 times the speed of light, the reality is, they are still in the same time frame we are.

No, they're not. If you watched the document, you would see how that's not the case. It's not even complicated.

I also kindly listed a source where you can read it. Actually, sorry the link was broken. Here's the correct link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_travel

Scroll down to "small travel". A russian astronaut has already gone 0.02 seconds in to the future, though unintentionally.

This stuff is fascinating! So what exactly is it like...if I and talking to an astronaut .02 seconds in the future?

The whole relationship between speed and time has always blown my mind, for some reason. I really need to read more into that.

It's nothing special, really, GhostRanger. Not as far as I know of anyways.

Like I said, it's all so heavily theorized and made into fiction that people expect a Delorian flying around taking us all on field trips...It just isn't like that.

Going forward or back in time seems to be a hypothetical and non-literal statement. 'Cause if someone is already ahead of time, and they're still walking around with us, then obviously nothing has happened to him. Unless they're saying "Well, he's TECHNICALLY ahead of time", which he is.

But the sense of going back/forth in time is far from reality. I mean, some even think you may be able to fly into a black whole and go faster than the speed of light to come out the other side in a different time zone...Lawl.

Should take a look at the BBC video...The one scientist even has a machine built for time-travel. Sending messages in it, anyways. Apparently they've never used it yet, because they said if they were to turn it on, they may receive messages from the future. *Shrug*

..So you watched it? At least, that's a big part of what the document is about. While probably it will take ages to develop technology capable of moving anything sizeable, data may be sent from the past and to the future.

Sorry, I tried looking for a youtube link but none found.

And Ghost, I'm not sure I fully understood your post now that i re-read it but yes you're then talking to a person who's 0.02 seconds in the future. 8-)

Alright...so he's .02 seconds in the future. Is it possible to explain what that means exactly? If he's .02 seconds in the future - how am I talking to him?

Yea, I watched it a while ago. Someone posted it on Ebaumsworld.com.

Hey, try looking for it on Google instead. It might have been on there. Infact, I believe it was...I'm just so used to using Youtube. :P

He's only "technically" into the future because he has traveled farther than Light itself has in a total of 0.2 seconds, apparently.

anything is possible i think if you were to go into a blackhole you would go into a previous galaxy

As far as I understand it, his body aged .02 seconds faster than yours?
