December 16, 200619 yr I think the ultimate argument is one where somebody actually concedes their point of view and accepts that they were wrong. It takes a strong character to be able to convincingly do that. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
December 16, 200619 yr I think the ultimate argument is one where somebody actually concedes their point of view and accepts that they were wrong. It takes a strong character to be able to convincingly do that. Definitely agree on that, but many topics are about things where nobody really can be right or wrong.
December 16, 200619 yr If you really want to know why he is gone, PM me and I'll tell you the story. Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.
December 16, 200619 yr Probably 'cause he can't win any arguments about Christianity. Even if Christianity is false, he still dominates you in arguments. He's the one that doesn't lose his head, and he doesn't end up making his entire argument based on an appeal to emotion and ad hominem. If calling someone elses religion "stupid" is losing my head, then yes, I totally lost it! GhostRanger likes to "prove" things by posting biased views and ignoring ones that obviously prove him wrong. He's kinda' like Bill O'Reily with some Jack Thompson thrown in. I, on the other hand, will observe both sides of the view. I have no agenda. If someone were to show me some evidence that religion could hold water, I'd convert in a second, for I surely don't wish to burn in some fictional oven. Alas, there is no evidence. The reason religion sucks is because according to it, EVERYONE is going to Hell. Christianity damns non-Christians, Islam damns non-Islamics, it's just stupid. People who have the audacity to tell me that *I* am going to hell even if I live a great life just because I "didn't accept Jesus" are elitist turd-faces, and they're not even GOOD at being elitist. Free-will is nowhere to be found in the Bible, yet they all say God gave it to us and if we don't choose him, we burn forever. HOW IS THAT FREE-WILL? There is no choice there. None. Who in their right mind would choose to burn in Hell? That's right, noone. And that's why it's all a load of poopie. You have no choice. I've seen Ghost lose his cool before too, so yea. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
December 16, 200619 yr I agree. Arguments can be good. But, they become bad when they cross the line to "immature argument", in which someone starts calling the other names, and insulting someone else's intelligence, blah blah blah. We've all seen it. :P I don't like to argue, however. It makes me sad and nervous. So, I avoid conflict. Even on the internet. I'm a lover. Not a fighter. ;)
December 16, 200619 yr I'm not going to defend my brother, I'll leave it up to insane. I know why he left, and the reason would make you want to leave too if you knew about it. I think it's funny though, even when my brother is completely void of this forum, Tigra still continues to insult him. No punishment, it's ridiculous. Forums are pretty boring without arguments though. Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.
December 16, 200619 yr I, on the other hand, will observe both sides of the view. I have no agenda. Haha, that's funny. If someone were to show me some evidence that religion could hold water, I'd convert in a second, for I surely don't wish to burn in some fictional oven. Alas, there is no evidence. Nevermind that all you ever do is blatantly ignore anyone who tries to honestly explain the Christian worldview to you, then keep on complaining about how it's crap. If you would actually be "tolerant" (oh, the irony), and try to understand another worldview, you wouldn't be so quick to flame. You dismiss Christianity as crap based on your own assumptions, never bothering to think that it might be reasonable based on other people's assumptions, then go on to repeatedly insult Christians for nothing other than their religion. You, sir, are a bigot, and yet for some reason, Section 1.5 of the tip.it rules doesn't apply to those who hate Christians. Who in their right mind would choose to burn in Hell? That's right, noone. And that's why it's all a load of poopie. You have no choice. Here's a perfect example of you completely ignoring the Christian worldview and bashing a few parts of it that you haven't made any effort to understand. I've seen Ghost lose his cool before too, so yea. Ghost doing it doesn't excuse you doing it. "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Chesterton
December 16, 200619 yr You, sir, are a bigot, and yet for some reason, Section 1.5 of the tip.it rules doesn't apply to those who hate Christians. Apparently you're not allowed to bash anyone, except Christians. I got banned for telling Kirby to kill himself, Flamestrike got banned for telling a kid to kill him self, yet when Tigra told all Christians to kill them selves nothing happened to him. Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.
December 17, 200619 yr You, sir, are a bigot, and yet for some reason, Section 1.5 of the tip.it rules doesn't apply to those who hate Christians. Apparently you're not allowed to bash anyone, except Christians. I got banned for telling Kirby to kill himself, Flamestrike got banned for telling a kid to kill him self, yet when Tigra told all Christians to kill them selves nothing happened to him. Way to take what I said out of context. I said something like "If you all are so sure you're going to heaven, why would you not kill yourselves? Why stay here and bother us with your stupid views?" Completely acceptable question, and trust me, I've been banned from this forum many times. I've been here almost since the site opened back on the old scapeboard, so obviously banning me isn't going to get rid of me. Ask God to get rid of me. I'm not a bigot, and I don't hate Christians. I hate that you shove your views into laws where noone needs or even wants them, say that everyone who isn't a Christian is incapable of morality, and dance around the truth to make your religion look good. Your "world-view" DOESN'T MATTER. It isn't the Christian world-view that's wrong, it's the fact that the whole thing with religion is wrong. A lot of Christians want to help people n' whatnot, but there are a laarge share who are "sinners". The whole "you're going to Hell if you don't join us" view is wrong, but the whole of the Christian view isn't completely wrong. Just the religion is. I'd venture as far as to say that it's impossible for it to be true. With all the lovely contradictions and whatnot (which none of you ever address, for obvious reasons), it's just not possible. There's no way to "follow" the religion. It says to do one thing, then another. The only thing that's solid is "Jesus loves you!"...Well that's great. So all we have to do is accept Jesus and we get into Heaven, no matter what. If we were horrible of terrific in life, we will be rewarded in death. Sorry, it can't be that easy. Astralinre - I don't get it. You said I don't accept religion because I don't accept my assumptions as wrong and others as right. DUH? Why would I take someone who's been taught since they were born to follow this with more than a grain of salt? What is the ratio on kids:adults who would believe in religion if told about it right this second? Like 100% to 5%? There is a reason for that. Children are stupid. They believe what they are told. My mom told me chocolate milk came from brown cows and I believed it until she told me she was kidding. I also believed in Santa because I was told to. And the Easter Bunny. How many adults would believe in Santa if told to today? Exactly zero, because it's a fairy tale. There is nothing that says the Bible ISN'T a fairy tale. Why shouldn't it be? Every other religion in history has been deemed a fairy tale. What makes your special? If anything, other religions deemed as fairy tales are WAY better than Christianity. They don't go around and contradict themselves, and they don't spread hatred and intolerance. Plus, their heroes are way cooler than Jesus. Hercules smashed stuff and was awesome in general. Jesus is...Not so awesome. He turned water into wine and cast demons into pigs. What the hell, that's not even a good story. More Hercules, please! Okay, that last little bit wasn't to be taken 100% seriously, but it's true. Other religions are deemed fairy tales, but this one had the wonder of mass-marketing behind it and all of a sudden it's deemed fact. Cool. It isn't deemed fact because it's obviously true, that's for sure. There is zero proof of this stuff ever happening. No plauge's recorded by Egyptians, nothing. Speaking of that, there's another thing you guys never address. Hmm. Just remember - Christianity isn't the oldest religion in the world. There have been ones before, and after it. For some reason, humans make them up. Humans are creative. The people who wrote the stories of religion are some of the best writers in time, obviously, because millions (billions nowadays) of people took it as fact. So just remember that. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!

The death and resurrection of Christ enables us to be forgiven of our old sins, and the Holy Spirit living in us enables us to not pursue sin. Astralinre - I don't get it. You said I don't accept religion because I don't accept my assumptions as wrong and others as right. No, I'm saying you don't even consider that your assumptions may be wrong. You don't have to reject you assumptions; I'm just asking that you set them aside and try to see the world based on a different set of assumptions. Egyptians were notorious for being great record keepers...Except they tossed everything they didn't like. That's convenient. I'm curious where the proof of that is, since it's obviously been tossed and never found. *Shrug* The planets orbiting the sun is a bad analogy on your part. That's a proven and provable fact. The Bible/God, aswell as Santa, is not. Trust me, I've considered that my assumptions (as you call them) were wrong. Who wouldn't want to believe in God? Who wouldn't want to believe when you die you go to a great place called Heaven? Only an idiot would not want such a thing. But when you read the Bible, and take note that there is no evidence, it's quite hard to follow it without following it completely blindly, and following something blindly is just a sign of stupidity. Lemmings, I believe most people would call that. Fun game, too. And I didn't mean the "Hell" part was entirely wrong as in it isn't a fact, I mean it is wrong, morally, to tell people they will burn eternally for not following you. That is something a cult would do to scare people into becoming members, and it works wonderfully, especially on children, who do not understand that these adults telling stories could be completely WRONG. They take it as fact and would really like to avoid burning in flame eternally. Mmmhmm. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
December 17, 200619 yr And how many adults would believe the planets orbit around the sun if I told them today, but they had been told since childhood that they didn't? No matter what it is, if you walk up to a person and tell him something that goes against what he's always been taught, he's going to resist. If I had been brainwashed since birth to believe all planets orbit around the Earth (like the Bible kindly enlightens us to be the case), but you walked up to me with proof otherwise, would I resist? Yes. After you presented the proof, would I still resist? No, I'd understand I was wrong and the planets do indeed orbit around the sun. God, on the other hand, cannot even be proven to exist in the first place. We only have items and scriptures written by humans, not a holy radiating diamond in a lush garden that upon touching shows your mind how God created the world in seven days. Without proof that's no less a tale than the Grimm brothers adventures. The Bible makes so many outlandish claims and supernatural events occur in it, which are not physically possible. And there have been thousands of other 'supernatural' stories told during history about great sacrifices, sons of gods and the creation of the world, which are just that, stories. During Jesus's birth, nobody believed in that 'creation' story. People change their views, but it still doesn't change the fact that most likely none of these 'supernatural' events ever took place.
December 17, 200619 yr Yes, so people say. Egyptians were notorious for being great record keepers...Except they tossed everything they didn't like. That's convenient. I'm curious where the proof of that is, since it's obviously been tossed and never found. *Shrug* I'll see if I can find some proof, but I do know that I've seen plenty of History Channel documentaries in which a new pharaoh tried to wipe out knowledge of the previous pharaoh. They would deface statues, destroy inscriptions and paint over old drawings. The planets orbiting the sun is a bad analogy on your part. That's a proven and provable fact. The Bible/God, aswell as Santa, is not. Actually, it's not a bad analogy at all, because it supports my point. Being brainwashed into believing something as a child has no bearing on that something's validity. I don't believe there is a lack of evidence, just that those who don't believe in God already tend to dismiss it. Those who presuppose materialism reject the supernatural by definition. Of course, this is completely consistent with a Christian worldview. Humans are sinful, in rebellion against God, so they would naturally dismiss evidence for his existence, so that they could be free from him, as you mentioned in the other thread. Though if it is true that those who don't believe in Christ are going to Hell (which it is within the Christian system), then it is morally wrong NOT to tell people so. If you see a friend about to stick his hand into the fire, and you don't stop him even though you know it will burn him, then surely you are doing the wrong thing. December 17, 200619 yr Everything you said would be absolutely, undeniabley correct. ...IF there were any proof for God. There is not, so everything you said is wrong. You're basing this all on the opinion that God exsists. If you think for a moment that he doesn't (you're incapable, probably), you'd realize what you said makes no sense. You're basing this all on the opinion that God exsists. If you think for a moment that he doesn't (you're incapable, probably), you'd realize what you said makes no sense. And everything you've said would be correct if there were no God. Everything I've said is wrong according to your assumptions. Everything I've said is right based on my assumptions. For you to say, "I presuppose the non-existence of God, therefore any system which claims God exists is wrong" is intolerant. And whether there is evidence for God or not is irrelevant to this specific point: a presupposition is what you believe before you think, before you look at the evidence. Since you presuppose his non-existence, you'll only accept the evidence against him. Since I presuppose his existence, I'll only accept the evidence for him. Haven't I made it abundantly clear that I presuppose God's existence and you don't? My point is that the Christian system makes sense when taken as a whole. That doesn't necessarily make it true, but it does make it a reasonable faith. And yes, I have considered that God may not exist and looked at the implications of it. If he doesn't exist, the whole Christian system is absurd. However, if he does exist, the whole Christian system is sublime. I understand if you disagree with Christianity. I'm just trying to teach you to respect it, rather than dismiss it as unreasonable crap, as you've done so often in the past. "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Chesterton

So seriously, stop complaining for once.

So seriously, stop complaining for once. Actually the topic was on all arguing that was causing people to take flaming from one topic and flame the same person in another. Seriously though, what does this religious debating accomplish? Give me one good reason? Ive stopped debating about it completely, because i've come to see that it makes no difference what you say, and whats the point if it makes no difference. Let other people believe what they want. And the reason i make now discussion topics, is because there is non to discuss. Why? Half the topics either end up about religion or social grouping. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! December 17, 200619 yr OMG SHUT UP ARGUMNTS R DUM LOL All forums need drama. Spice it up a little. :P It's not even about drama. There are some users that see regular debate/argument and think that there's something bad going on when two people are disagreeing and disproving each other's points. That's what debate's all about. Sure, we have our "what's your favorite" threads, and your "what should I do about this...?" threads, but nothing beats a thread where you can actually argue a point. The drama you're talking about isn't needed. People don't need to personally flame each other. Most of the time we don't have issues with that. But regular argument isn't drama, as long as people don't get emotionally involved.
December 17, 200619 yr Okay well I think if someone wants you to discuss something about points of views then thats okay for an argument but, for example, that thread about the x-factor winner, I think it's pointless to say stuff like "omg who likes that? Its for losers," because the topic-maker wasn't asking whether someone likes the show or not. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢

December 18, 200619 yr I know why he left, and the reason would make you want to leave too if you knew about it. Forum powered by burning dead bodies, Admin's kill a kitten for every post? Forums are a means of communication, either you like the people or you don't; if you don't enjoy posting or reading the forums fair enough. I don't see how the forums could be involved in something so reprehensible that it would make people leave (unless it was some crazy scenario like what I first mentioned). But regular argument isn't drama, as long as people don't get emotionally involved. And remember that it's the off-topic forum of a video game fan site, I don't see how people can get worked up over something so insignificant.
December 18, 200619 yr I know why he left, and the reason would make you want to leave too if you knew about it. I know at least something about his leaving, since he messaged me before leaving and IMO it's not that big of a problem really. But if you're his brother you probably know the whole story so I'm not one to judge. And remember that it's the off-topic forum of a video game fan site, I don't see how people can get worked up over something so insignificant. Exactly. Why do some people take things dead seriously here? I too realised this a long time ago and tried switching to monty python style absurd posts, and an occassional funny post, but this has mainly led me into trouble, especially recently (wont discuss in details) due to HUGE misunderstandings. The huge misunderstanding is not understanding the off topic forum for one can't survive for long unless it involves at least a bit of spam and un-political correctness. A lot of debates have been kicked to death like a ragged horse. Most 'what's your favourites' have been done. The forum *needs* some spice to be entertaining. We're not here to be stone faced. The forum is for talking and above all, entertainment. (Though, there's no need to insult a specific person)
December 18, 200619 yr You're all welcome to post your beliefs and opinions but try not to attack everyone elses in the process. While I agree with the rest of your post, I had to comment that. While nobody should attack other people's beliefs and belittle them, in a debate, you *should* ask others why they believe what they believe. Because ultimately, no religion has an absolute majority of followers. Which means most people have totally different, say religious, views. Since nobody can be wrong or right, it's right to ask those people "why". For that logical reason I also stay away from organised religion and just acknowledge any one of them could theoretically be "right", or maybe none of them is. And before you think I'm biased, I was actually baptised and grew up in a semi-religious childhood. I'm fine with asking why, but when the person asking that question is just doing it to attack anothers beliefs I'm against it, and thats how it is most of the time, its mostly just used to back the other person into a corner in an arguement. ~^v^~Ex-Leader of the Divine Flames of Redemption~^v^~
December 18, 200619 yr Fist fight, left right!! Well there is not bad in little arguments, but if the grow big then you've got to draw the line.. Like the argument of the shouldn't spread to many threads... Fist fight, left right!!
