jjrox32
At least quiting smoking isn't physically painful compared to other drugs. Have you ever seen House? He's a vicodin addict, and when he quits/detoxs he can barely think due to the pain. on other episodes, they have to quickly detox a heroin addict. They had to put her into a coma due to pain. It would be nieve to think everyone that started smoking did it for little to no reason. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
FunPhish
Im sure self-discipline plays a crucial role, but niccotine is the most addictive substance out there. Few statements have less truth than that, I geuss you've never heard of Opium. Wow looking back on this topic I love how people who on-the-spot admitt to never trying smoking try and tell smokers what it does to you or how it makes you feel. Honestly if you havn't tried it you need to answer the question and not lecture actual smokers on their habitt, because you DON'T know. I'll quote myself from my most recent post: I could be wrong I'm not pretending to be an expert on the issue but I know that niccotine is addictive. I have smoked before and my whole family are smokers. And yes, I have heard of opium, but I guess you know more about it then me... Good luck with that. Edit: I decided to do a little research on the addictive nature of nicotine. Source 1 This site shows a comparison of the addictiveness and other attiributes of several drugs, including nicotine. Look at the second and third sections specifically, in the second section look at the rating given to nicotine for dependancy, then the discription given for dependancy below. Source 2 Have a quick read of this article, but I want to draw your attention to this section specifically - The fourth criterion is dependence. This is defined as the difficulty in quitting, or staying off the drug, usually measured by the number of users who eventually become dependent. For many dependence is viewed as the hallmark of addiction and how ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâaddiction̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ is usually measured by the medical profession. For this criterion both researchers are again in agreement as they rate nicotine highest for dependence. Source 3 Have a quick read of this article, but I want to draw your attention to this section specifically - People trying to quit nicotine experience this as: Irritability Anxiety Depression Craving for nicotine Over a period of about a month, these symptoms and the physiological changes subside. But for many smokers, even a day without nicotine is excruciating. Every year, millions of people try to break the nicotine habit; only 10 percent of them succeed. Most people throw in the towel after less than a week of trying, because the way that nicotine rewires the reward system in the brain makes nicotine's pull irresistible. Source 4 Is nicotine addictive? In February 2000, the Royal College of Physicians published a report on nicotine addiction which concluded that ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅCigarettes are highly efficient nicotine delivery devices and are as addictive as drugs such as heroin or cocaine.̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâà
Ambassadar
I will never smoke. Aside from how bad it is for you it is sooo expensive. I was talking to a friend that smoked two packs a day and trying to get him to see how much it would cost him over the course of his life. If you saved the money spent on cigarrettes, put it in the stock market or something for a 10% a year return and saved it for 50 years you would have $2,598,658. That is the difference between retiring well off and retiring poor. Here is a link to a site that breaks down the costs $$$ of smoking even further. http://www.chemheritage.org/EducationalServices/pharm/chemo/activity/pakday.htm
Guest Cosinus
Never have, but I'll most likely take a smoke on parties etc just because it's fun to try out, but then I'll most likely try a Ciggarre or something, not Ciggarettes. ;)

warri0r45
I don't know where this site gets it's info, but you're phsyically I'll if you're an Opiate addict who's sober, my mom has to take 2 $12 Methadone pills a day for her addiction just to keep her from getting dope sick. More people smoking cigarettes is a direct link to how easy you can buy them, not to them being more or even close to as addictive as most drugs. If you looked closely, one of these sites has a colaboration of information from three doctors (people with doctorates). Oh well, I tried. I'd gladly read any source you can provide that backs up what you say or refutes what I posted.
