a7xpure
Ok, my info has said "retired" for a long time now..but I put it that when I made this Username because I was CONSIDERING it, now I am actually going through with it. I'll save some of you some time right now by warning that this story is probably going to be boring for most of you. Anyway.. I'm not quitting because of the game becoming boring..not because the updates are becoming worse and worse (not saying that they are). I'm quitting because I realized, almost none of the people on RS that I considered "friends" actually take me seriously Ok so about a week ago I was cleaned, no problem for me..I've been through it before, I go pick flax for the next 5 days straight, ended up with around 15k flax, spun them all and sold them for about 2.7M. I immediately go staking (this time being more keen, if I was to lose more than 500k, I would stop..pick more flax and then go staking again) But, fortunately for me, I did not have to go back and pick flax again. I found a level 80 that was willing and respectful enough to 2.5X me in a stake (he had 3 strength levels, 60 defence levels :P, and 9 hp levels ahead of me, so he knew I wouldn't stake with equal risk). We staked about 20 times, each one growing to the point that we were staking equally. I was up to about 25M, I was fine with that, and told him I did not want to stake anymore (knowing that I would probably lose most of it back to him), but he had one last stake to offer. He was furious at his major loss and said that I might as well clean him, he said he'd FOUR TIMES MY STAKE, my 5.4M for his Santa Hat. Greedily I accepted and wouldn't you know it..I won, My first rare ever and my first time having more than 5M cash. I told all of my friends and they congratulated me, then began the "Oh man, can I borrow like 2M? I lost it to a random (etc." crap.. I told them that they should do what I did, pick some flax/skill or stake/pk. Anyway..I went to bed that night planning on how I'm going to use the money wisely on skills and investments. (I could not play for a day though, so the next part is 2 days later) This morning, I try to log on and I get invalid username or password..I was shocked, the empty feeling in my stomach came into play. I quickly recover to find that the log in status (at the top of the screen when you log in) was at "a little while ago", meaning that it wasn't more than an hour ago that the hacker had gotten to my account. My bank was empty, and my ignore list (which I've never used) had the 'user names': Ha Hah I F**king (please excuse me for this, it's what was inserted there) Owned You what the last entry on the list was what hit me the hardest..it was the username of the person I had won everything from. I wanted to just burst out in anger (even though i knew it was only a game), but I just told myself..I'll go pick more flax, if I've done it once, I can do it again.. I began telling my friends the horrid news (this is what drove me to quit) the first three people I told on my friends list gave me some of the most aggrivating responses ever.. "Are you going to quit?! Can i have your account?!?!" "Haha, you got hacked" and what got me the most was this: "Serves you right for not sparing me that money I asked" ~~~~~~~~~~~ So that marks the retirement of Ethereal Nub/ Str Pker 313 I apologize for my horrible typing (paragraphs #-o ) It's obvious that these "friends" of mine don't really care what happens to me or my accounts. stats of Ethereal Nub ~12/26/06~ 45 Attack 62 Strength 77 Range 70 Fishing 71 Cooking 61 Woodcut 68 Hitpoints stats of Str Pker 313 ~12/26/06~ 60 Attack 76 Strength 65 Hitpoints Thanks for reading my post (if you did) ~+Happy Scaping (~Matt http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/ ... edance.gif[/img]

You should know that not all of the runescape community is like that, you should stick around. If you decide to, you can always add me, if not, well then good luck in real life. You can add me if you want, my chat is almost always on =) Barrows guide...no prayer potions needed?1200/1400 cw tickets. Jock66600
Get a Bank Pin next time and bank everything before you log out. Even if your world hopping. Hardest lesson only one you can trust is yourself. Because this world will never take my heart. Aye, if your that mad, track him down, get a plane ticket. Then 5 minutes of quality time with a mate that destroyed your account. \

I know that the entire community is not like that, I've met people who helped me with so much and refused to accept the payment/help I was to repay them with. and for those stating that I should have had a bank pin: I know I should have had one, and I admit that it is partially my fault for not having one. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/ ... edance.gif[/img]

I too wondered how he got my password. The only way I could honestly think he got it was through a Password Cracker (I didn't have any keyloggers I'm positive of that) A passcracker has a list of usernames and a list of passwords, it checks each username with each password till it finds a match. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/ ... edance.gif[/img]

Skill_Caster
That's sad to see another quitting because of scamming/hacking topic. It sounds like your "friends" weren't really your friends, maybe he got in by your recoveries because he learned them in your "friendship". i123i
Passcrackers....lol, must be using one with proxies if so, too easy of a pass, sucks man, bank pins save lives I've heard, that's why I got one even though it takes me 10 seconds to put it in on my 500 MGHz PC. It's sad to see an RSC vet go from what little I read in the RSC section.
Jys
if your going to quit just because you got hacked, then don't, i got hacked to, i only lost a few 10k's more then 100k, but it was alot to me, when that was around the highest i had ever gotten money wise when i got hacked i was so mad, but i continued, the moral of this is not to quit if you just want to since you got hacked, just keep on going if your quiting because of your "friends", or just because your bored, then ok, gl to you in the real world, not as fun as RS, but, eh

Huge Noob
Like what's been said before. You should of had a bank PIN. They work very well to prevent things like this from happening. As far as your "friends" go all I can say is wow. What on earth made you add them in the first place since they were acting like complete jackasses. :|
tWiStEdpAuL
I'm sorry for your misfortune, unfortunately there are too many greedy players in this game. As for your account being "hacked" by a password cracker (technically this is being cracked and not hacked) i am confused, runescape is a particularly hard game for crackers to access do to several different issues. Your right that a cracker uses a list of passwords and usernames but the makeup of the runescape java login makes this rather hard as there is much more information needed to make this viable option. Also in this case a cracker with the facilities of proxies wouldnt really matter, you would have to have a incredibly easy password. Be Safe use a pin! Anyways i wish you all the best and i hope you don't quit for good, if you really want to teach them something then don't let them get to you and continue to play. All the best.. paul :) P.S.. I dont usually post but i'm drunk and thought i would, so all the best and merry christmas to everyone and a happy new year! 99 Thieving
Rebdragon
Unless you're bored of the game beyond all levels of comprehension, see you next week. Seriously, I know this is bad, but most 'Scapers are like that now. They're either an immature Stage 1 five year old, or a teenager who's so immature that they feel that just because they're wearing a mask in game means they have a right to be cruel. Usually they're just low lifes in the "real world", who take out they're anger and greed on others in the game, feeling that there will be no consequence for there actions. Again, Stage 1. Nearly all players are like that nowadays, so I'm sure you'll find good friends here at Tip.it (try Edge w99) and have a great time playing the game. Note: Stage 1 refers to Kohlberg's stages of Morality- it is living with a mentality that "if I don't get punished for it, it's fine to do." Way to many 'Scapers play this way. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series.
