All things Golf

Hello fellow Tip.iters! If your reading this you are most likely a golfer or a fan of it! I personally love it, after taking it up a couple of years ago I have never been bored of it, I play every Wednesday and Saturday at one of the local clubs in hope of getting my handicap down to single figures (currently 11).

So discuss anything golf here, whether it be your low round, what you think of the latest club you got for christmas or the eagle you got the other day :P

I just got a Titleist 905T 10.5 Degree Driver for Christmas and am still getting used to it... I got the Speeder shaft instead of the V2 which I think was a mistake, far too flexible for my liking but I'll get used to it with time, just have to adjust my swing to it :) Also got an Odyssey 2 ball putter, best putter I've ever had, I recommend it to anyone out there struggling with putting much like I was (still am :P)

I used to love golf until my freshman year of high school when my coach screwed me out of my position on the team. Since then I've had no passion for it and instead took up drawing and photography. I've never a really nice set of clubs. When I need a new set of clubs I just look at local stores that are having a sale and get what I like for usually a few hundred dollars.

Okay I don't know if this is fact but I heard Tiger Woods won "Athlete" of the year. Golfers = athletes? I don't think so IMO.

Even I, a golfer, do not consider myself an athlete when playing this sport. I wouldn't even break a sweat if it wasn't for the heat of the summer and that nasty ball of fire in the sky.

Athlete: A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts.

But it is debatable... I would definantly classify Tiger Woods as an athlete, he's one of the best ever to play the sport if not the best, nobody in the world is even close to him right now in the world golf rankings... I wouldn't exactly classify John Daly as an athlete though, if you've seen him or know about him you probably know why :P

Maybe golfers could be considered athletes if your definition is someone who plays sports, but if we are talking "athletic" as in you're.. athletic like in sports like basketball you're fast and can jump high and have a lot of stamina, then golfers aren't athletes.

Yea I definantly agree with you and Deloria here, I don't feel like much of an athlete when I'm out there playing it but there are many people who would disagree, we'll leave it open for discussion :)

I love golf! I just got a new driver!

My low round is a 45. Embarrassing much. I'm no pro for sure! But a nice leisurely game of golf is good for me.

Golf is a sport. You don't need to be athletic, just strong. But it's for sure a sport.

Nice handicap - nearly single figures

I love golf, but I haven't played in over a month. It's been incredibley bad weather here. Some schools were closed and our river burst its banks. I am moving to another golf club after it took the old club over a year to tell me my handicap had been cut to fifteen. Unfortunately, this means I have three months to wait until I can play as they have a different financial year.

For anyone interested in equipment, I use Mizuno T-zoid irons, a fifty-pence lob wedge I picked up at a car boot sale, a second hand ben sayers putter and I rarely use woods but when I do they are assorted Donnay woods.

I should get my handicap down to ten this year if I work hard. ::'

People consider darts and snooker to be a sport or atleast a competitive game, and golf is probably hard than both of them. Golfers require, although minimally; fairly strong arms, good balance, strong and flexible hips and most of all - stamina. You not only need to be able to hit the ball accurately or a long distance, you need to know how far you can hit each club, how to read greens and how much you swing. You can't learn much about golf by watching pros, they make it all look too easy, you should try it for youself and see how hard it is.

People often mistake golfers for just swinging with their arms and having a little flick with their foot as they swing through. But that is unbelievably wrong. Golfers swing using their arms, hips and legs. And when you first learn to swing using more than your arms, you can feel it and it drains you fast.

I play at my local golf course, it's only a small 9-hole but they hold competitions every saturday, so why not play? The most i've won in one go was ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã33. Not bad for 3 hours golfing. :P At the moment i've earnt about ~̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã200 from merely competitions.

The par is 60 for 18-holes and the course focuses on short game. My handicap at the moment is 20, about two weeks ago it was 23, so i've cut three of it pretty quickly.

I get weekly tuition with some friends and a good professional friend of mine, so it never feels like it's a burdon to learn a new thing. I'm currently learning a new grip which is kinda hard but gives me an extra 20 yards and much more accurate.

I often play in competitions at various other golf courses during summer, the longest of which was 6 hours in +20c temperatures. On top of that, I covered about 10km with a bag weighing ~14kg (?).

I play with a 9 degree Ping driver. Don't get too much height on it, but it goes for a good ~200 yards. Supported by some Fazer irons, I would prefer some Ping/Callaway ones when I get better, but Fazer clubs have huge relief. :) (Incase you don't know, that means if I thin/top it, I will still get a lot of force on the ball and it will still go a good distance) And as for my putter, I just use a basic Fazer one. Nothing spectacular about it. I play with all carbon fibre shafts, keeping my swing nice and firm, except for my putter which is steel.

Blarg, that golf enough? :)

Same with me. I love our executive course, because I'm not that big yet, 4'11'' and 13 years of age. So it allows me to get on the green in one or 2 on most holes.

We have 12 Par 3's and 6 Par 4's.

I play the front most of the time, and one of the Par 4's, it's incredibly short. With 2 good shots, I can get on in 2! 3 or 4 max.

I've always wanted to camp out at Number 17 at TPC at Sawgrass. "The Famous Island Green"

Either that or Camp out at 18 on Sunday at the Masters. :P

Argh, I know that golf course. :x Can't think of it's name though.

TPC at Sawgrass is a hawt course though, i'd love to play if I could skip Number 17. :P I'd never get it to stop. Not at that range anyway.

My mate captains for the County Gold team, he plays off one and he' 17. He's pretty damn good.

I like playing, I'm just not particularly good! I can drive the ball, just not in the direction I want, I can chip quite well because I get a lot of backspin on it so it just dyes when it hits the ground, but my putting is abysmal. On a par four I can get to the green in 3 and then take another 4 trying to putt it in. Its really quite depressing when you seen your score edging up and up!

I'm in awe of people like Tiger Woods though - the consistency of professional golfers is ridiculous! You guys seen the Nike advert where Tiger Woods chips it from off th green and it is absolutely perfect, rolling down the hill and just teeters in? Pure awesomeness!

I know how you feel, I'm 15 and only about 5'6" so I don't have a lot of distance yet... One of our local 9 hole courses is par 33, I shot a 31 there the other day and my handicap there is 2, mainly because it has 4 par 3's, 4 short par 4's and 1 par 5 ::'

I'm focusing on my main club though which is much more of a challenge, par 35 for the front nine, 37 for the back and it's a VERY long course... Should be single figures soon though hopefully :D

Oh and one other thing, I'm getting 2 Taylormade Rescue Mids for my birthday tomorrow!!! :D :D :D

I golf all the time :) And for Xmas, I got 10 tickets to the US Open, and a shirt and swearshirt that has US Open stuff on it.

I envy you...

Oh, bloody hell, i'm older than Beamo yet he's taller. :(

I focus on my short game; pitching, chipping, lobbing and putting. That's where it counts really. :) It's also easier to practice, I can practice chipping in my own garden ubt I have to go to a driving range to practice driving. :P

What I might go buy in the sales is a driving net. :D

I love driving. I just love it because you should see me. I hit the ball as far as I can and I just get excited, and get momentum off of my drives. If I see my drive landing 20 feet away from the cup on the green, then it is a good self-esteem booster.

Emotions play a big part in golf. Just look at Phil Mickelson
