I'm convinced Civilization IV is an outstanding game and I'd love to have more time to invest on it. I absolutely love Civilization III, though. And when I'm in the mood for some strategy, what I'm looking for aren't awesome graphics: it's Civ III.

I have Civilization III, I'm dieing to try Civ IV.

I played every single civilization and i think CIV 2 is good for strategy pure fun, CIV 4 is for graphics kind of complicated and CIV 3 is in between.

I have not played it at all, I loved civ II but have now gone over to the Europa universalis series. I like the micro-management which it offers.

My brother is addicted to Civ IV, he has been reprogramming its AI as a hobby.

Removed some useless spam from the topic..

Civ4 *is* a good game, and I actually have the real version instead of downloading (well, I got it for a present a year ago).

The only thing that is lacking is the combat system. First of all, just the sprites fight, not an army (imagine Rome: Total War, but just the characters on the campaign map fight!)

Second thing: Given enough beatings and a low HP, a tank can actually lose to 2 swordsmen in the modern era.

Other than that, it's a very, very succesful strategic game. Boundaries expand as you get wealthier. You can send settlers to build new cities. Other civilisations may get jealous and want to join your empire just because it's so advanced. You can even get the UN to vote you as the 'winner' of the world.

..And in the year 2050, you can still have a barbarian armed with a club protecting your cities :P

I quite like it.

I have used it when I have had a day to kill, I just set the world size to massive and the campaign length to epic.

It is always a bit disappointing when you win a domination victory when you're not expecting it. Many times I've been setting off to conquer another foe when it takes me by surprise and spoils my fun.

When I played Rome: Total War, I chose the "auto-complete" battle option, what ever that was called. I never went off the campaign map :P .

I loved Civ IV, but every time I start playing it my life gets completely screwed up for a few days. All I do is play it, I can't stop. Also, I am not very good at it. I can't remember what the difficulty levels were but I know I always played on one of the lower ones. Finally, I am a stickler for order. My cities have to be placed in a pattern so as to waste the least amount of space in between. That means a lot of the time when I first start a city, there are an abundance of resources just one block out of range, and if I had just moved my city over one it would have grown twice as fast. But I would rather gimp the city than to break the pattern.

I think one can turn them off. At least, with other civilization games one has been able to choose the possible methods of victory.
