They are illegal - world switching programs or programs which click for you are illegal, and many of them do have keyloggers and other spyware associated with them.

This may need to be locked however, not sure about the policy on asking these kinds of questions.

Actually, Jagex stated that though they do not endorse or support third party worls switchers, they will not ban any users for using them. In regards to SS, it is perfectly safe as long as you get th download from the real SS site :!:

Hitman247m.png

u sure? it said any PAST users of swiftswitch ect. wont get banned, but rs will catch you and ban you

No, it's allowed. New rule.
Actually the new rule explicitly says its NOT allowed. The makers say they will find a loophole in the rule and not to use SS until they can create an updated version. People caught using SS are likely to be muted rather than banned but its still against the rules no matter what Strider claims.

"We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn't affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape" Jagex 01/04/01 - 02/03/12

Look at the Runescape main page. There's two Rules 7 and 9 Updated threads. Why? Because they meant to put two. I'm serious. It also congratulates Strider on his co-operation with them.

The rules were updated to state that using a 3rd party client was not against the rules but however was not recommended.

The 3rd party client does have to follow some guidelines however. Those guidelines are that it must not...

1) Block any advertisements Runescape uses

2) Automatically switch worlds for you/Make it possible for you to reach the log-in screen of a world that is full

3) Uses an embedded version of the client (your client links to the java applicate, not the page the client is located on)

The client may however, use embedded applicants that do not affect the game itself, such as skill calculaters.

The client may also contain a chat room (such as an IRC room), however the chat must be monitored so that there is no discussion about things that are against Jagex rules.

It was the combination of the 3 "must not" reasons, as well as the IRC chat not being monitored to block illegal runescape chat, that was causing swiftswitch to be made illegal.

don't worry, you are going to "hell" anyway. wanna race to see who gets there first?

First Dragon Drop: Dragon Chain (Dust Devils) @ 10:48PM EST, July 14, 2008, lv113 combat

Somebody reported this post, but in the recent light of things I believe this thread can go on since the program is not directly prohibited by Jagex Ltd, it's use is not encouraged though.

They changed the rule again after everyone whined about it. #-o

How do you know I didn't see it on the Rs main page. Is it actually allowed now to use SS. I hope it is, all the whinny little [bleep]es complaining that its illegal when it wasn't.

Edit: Oh and for the author, no SS does not contain keyloggers or anything lie spyware. If it did thousands of RS players would have their account lost. And the guy who made it strider is a good person and wouldn't do something like that.

It is allowed!

You must not use other programs to gain an unfair advantage in the game. This includes automation tools, macros, bots, auto-typers. You may not circumvent any of our mechanisms designed to automatically log out inactive users. You also must not use a third party RuneScape client which encourages breaking of our rules, or endangers user accounts.

Rule 7 says not to use any software that will give you an unfair advantage to the game.

Swiftswitch is just a world changer with a few other utilities, to help people deal better with lag. Some people, accessing the internet can be a nightmare.

SS is safe, trust me. And as for it's legal status, the current version is not legal according to Strider & Paul. However the new (legal) version should be out in a couple of days.

This is Strider's latest update on the matter.

Over the weekend and last few days we've been working on doing everything we can to make SwiftSwitch legal again. This is proving to take a little longer than expected. I'm sorry that we couldn't meet our weekend promise but the last thing we want to do is release an update that isn't legal.

We are progressing though, and closing in on finishing. As soon as we're finished we will perform a small internal BETA test and then release it. Please be patient, hopefully it will be out within a few days. Also a reminder that version 2.38 and all previous versions ARE illegal. Please wait till 2.39 before you log into RuneScape inside SwiftSwitch.

There is an incredibly easy way to make something similar to swiftswitch, and invisible to jagex.

However, absolutely no way am I releasing it for the good of the game. :)

Theoretically SwiftSwitch can endanger user accounts.

summerpngwy6.jpg

ya 3rd party programs are never really safe to use

but ss is NOT legal yet to use, he has updated it yet

so if you use it, i dont know what they will do, i dont think they will bann you but its not worth the chance

3rd party clients are allowed as long as they follow a set a rules that jagex has set

a91e22ec.gif
Aefx(started 11/1/2002) Cb: 200 TS: 1900+
Bmms--Jr(Started on 1/24/06)(Banned 11/13/09 ) Cb: 119(pre-eoc) TS: 1700+
Bmms(Started 8/?/2001)(Banned 1/24/06 ) Cb: 101(pre-eoc) TS: 1350+

They're not gonna ban you like they did with people who used [ForbiddenSite] because it barely even changes the way you play the game.

But, be on the safe side and don't use it at all. Put it this way; slightly faster server switching, or no account at all and all your hard work lost. You decide :)
