Literature Nobel Prize (as far as I'm concerned, Literature is the only subject of the nobel prizes to award for creativity which I think is a huge thing and worth alot more than working out some physic law or something. January 13, 200719 yr Medal of honour. Serving your country in war I brave. My great grandad did in WW1 at Gallipoli and France. he survived, his cousin did not.

Basically, doing something extremely brave or amazing. Most who earn it die before they can receive it. It cannot be taken from the person's body after they die. It must be buried with them. You will most likely never see a Medal of Honor without an owner.

January 13, 200719 yr Nobel Prize. Most other awards are just fancy-pants "for show" crap that mean nothing. Oscar's? Ha. That helped a whole one person. Nobel Prizes on the other hand, are given out for doing something that does or will help tons of people. The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!

Could someone explain? :) Most are given to people after they die doing something that saves others (jumping on a hand grenade that kills you but saves the people around you). But it's possible to get one while still alive, granted its beyond the reach of anyone reading this forum. This short pageabout what 4 WW2 Medal of Honor recipients did to earn their medals is a great read with jaw-dropping acts. Like I said, simply amazing. If you see someone wearing one you immediately think "Holy... What did this guy do to earn that?!"

January 13, 200719 yr Although the Medal of Honor is prestigious I do not consider it is universal enough to be the most prestigious. The reason being it is only awarded to people in or serving the united states military. There are many other militaries who service people do equally heroic deeds. The same would apply to the similar awards of other countries such as the Mannerheim Cross, Medal of Valor, Victoria Cross or the Virtuti Militari. Most countries have a similar award to the ones mention above. To rate one above the others in term of being prestigious is wrong in my opinion, they are all equally worth of praise. Unless corrupt leadership award them to themselves or their cronies then in that case they are worthless. In my opinion the most prestigious award is any top military honor to recognize extraordinary bravery and courage often at the risk of their own life in the presence of the enemy.
January 13, 200719 yr Author Well said Mil. I do believe that most of the people who posted meant "Medal of Honor or similar". After all who is to say a "Medal of Honor" is better then a "Hero of the Soviet Union" or "Victoria's Cross"? There all equal really.
