Without making too many assumptions, in one sense: Noob is predominantly used in annoyance. Lol is used as a conversation filler, for lack of response - something to say when there's nothing else you can say. Too often I LOL - it's one of the few ways to convey humour to others from a bunch of letters, which, otherwise, could be interpreted (emotively) different ways.
