~~The End of Tip.it?~~

Featured Replies

Heya all,

Well we all know that Runescape wont be around for ever while not forgetting Jagex as a company as well. All things come to an end eventually. With Jagex planning on developing new games to appeal to an audience as widely diversified as possible, it would mean that Runescape would be slowly pushed to the side while new development is being brought forward.

We intend to become a significant online operator in all the major gaming markets worldwide; developing and commercializing highly compelling persistent character games that appeal to as wide an audience as possible, based on cutting edge technologies developed in house.

Shows clearly Jagex intentions in the near future.

My question is, what will be the future of a Runescape based fan-site such as tip.it when Runescape is nothing more than something like RSC is today (or if anything - which is a reality eventually). Do you believe tip.it would have a future from then? Would it evolve into a fan-site which also caters for the needs of the players, playing other Jagex's games? Or would it come to an end of an era and shut down?

I'd especially love to hear, not only your views, but the thoughts of the Mods, and especially the Admins out there, who are running these Forums. (Hopefully their browsing the TIF's and will see this thread **fingers crossed**).

Thanks, and Post Away.

I don't really believe that runescape would be pushed to the side. There is too much money to make :|

If I were to guess, there is at leat 500k members at $5 a month... Not bad money even after servers and wages.

Even if that magically happened, it would be a slow disappear , just like any other game/site. Numbers slowly start going down, untill before you know it, nothing is happening anymore.

I've seen it happen on dozens of sites before, and everyone just moves to something new eventually with the memories of whatever.

~M

I believe that Runescape will become similar to the final fantasy games (which have been around for over 10 years) , but online. Instead of creating a new game, Jagex will just modify or do whatever to runescape, because it has been such a big hit.

lalalasig2.png

yeah i think they'd just keep updating it.

if it does die out there will be some people that are going tp keep playing runescape. like me

It is hard to kill a good game anyway. Would take a massive "Denial of Service" attack, plus other destruction like wiping out the server data, to destroy RuneScape. And I don't think that will happen, ever.

Runescape isn't going to die out quickly.

They update it ALL THE TIME which is what gives it the most appeal among online MMORPG's. And it's only a cheap $5 a month for these updates.

They'll just expand it, and probably make it nicer and nicer to keep it going.

As for the FF games, they've been around much longer than 10 years lol :)

I miss you all (Well, mostly my friends n stuff)

If you want to talk to me, send me a message, I check the boards daily. :D

That quote from Jagex.com has been there for sometime now, like 2 years...

I'm sure Jagex will continue to impove Runescape for maybe the next 5 years.

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

Exactly my thought.

Apparently none of you can multiply correctly....

300cats x 100deaths= 3,000deaths

3,000deaths=900,000gp

Runescape has made the Gowers Millionaires, I really doubt they are going to just cut and run any time soon.

The only way I could see it dying is = it is no longer profitable (NOT going to happen at the moment) or if the gowers get bored of it, seeing how it is still very much their baby I don't see that happening either

So RS will stay :D good stuff

I know its been there that long, but it still outlines their intentions of Future Development, and they wouldn't have it there if it weren't the case. Especially on a Corporate Company Website.

My question is what will happen to tip.it after that "5 years" or maybe in a decade when Runescape may not even exist or may have a tiny, tiny supporter base. Do you think Silverion is going to pay for the massive hosting costs when there is hardly anyone coming to tip.it anymore (speaking in terms of in the future) and thus there isn't going to be a lot of money coming in, in terms of advertising to pay for these costs of hosting etc. And therefore it will be coming out of Silverion pocket. I doubt anyone would continue on with a fansite which is going in that direction (especially if its money out of your own pocket).

I'm not talking about the present, I'm talking about the inevitable future, which is bound to come one day. That day - well nobody knows.

I believe it will be a VERY, VERY long time before Runescape "dies". The only reason I can think of for this to happen is if new technology is created, making RS obsolete, or if Jagex crashes. Runescape is such a unique game, even if there are better games available, it will still be popular. Hopefully I will have quit by the time Jagex decides to throw in the towel. :o

Runescape has become quite popular. Although the graphics aren't the "coolest", the gameplay is a bit slow, Runescape is the best designed MMORPG I've ever seen. The learning curve is small.

The may be improvements to the game, but the big ones will make Runescape load longer of end up needing a client.

I'm sure there are already a lot of "better" MMO's. I've always wondered how runescape can be so succesfull, I mean there are so many out there and still runescape is placed 4th. That's pretty amazing seeing the graphics and the incredible repetive parts of it.

On Topic: To be honest, if I don't play runescape anymore (I'm almost sure that will happen before runescape would die) I won't care anymore about tip.it =P.

When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done.

Tip.it won't die hun.

The fact is we use to support more than just runescape and we are just in talks teh past few days again in expanding the site. THis won't happen over night here but is in the making.

More details of possible new games we may make fansites for will be given at a later date, when i choosen what we going to support.

Ah Thanks Lightning for the reply. Its re-assuring hearing from you that tip.it won't be "going under" anytime soon. :)

And it's good to see that the admins are looking at the long term future of these boards by looking at other games to support as a fan-site.

Though one question, I remember when tip.it had the 2 other games in which you guys supportered as a fansite (the 3 games including Runescape which came up when you went to "tip.it" and didn't include the /runescape. But what actually happened to them? Where they not worth having on tip.it, as they weren't really going anywhere? :?

I'd love to hear a reply if you have the time to get around to it.

WHOA!!! Wait-a-minute, hold the presses!!! Tip.It used to be MORE than just RuneScape?!?!?!?

Hmm, maybe that explains the constant re-direct to the "/runescape/" directory... <.< :-k

Yeah but the other fansites were like ghost-towns compared to the Runescape section of tip.it. I think they removed the other 2 fanistes back in late 05'.

umm... have u visited the OT forums? - i doubt tip.it will die, even if RS does (the forums anyway)

Somebody has to still pay for the hosting costs, and people just visiting OT wouldn't be enough people for advertisers to pay the same amount of money to advertise on tip.it to keep the boards running without much costs (out of the admins pocket). There's a lot more people visiting the Rs related boards, and if they go the boards would have to go eventually.

But Lightning has outlined the forums intentions above, which will stop this from occurring. :)
