January 25, 200719 yr Simple, how close together or "tight knit" is the community of the off-topic forum to you? I've only been here a while and don't feel able to give a valid opinion, what do YOU think and why? Last.fm Signature Overlays
January 25, 200719 yr Last year at this time, the OT was all about [] emote and attacking the poster with as much sarcasm as you could muster. Now I'd say its greatly evolved. I haven't really seen too much of the emote I truly hate. I would'nt necesairly call it a community though. We're more like a group of people that come together to debate, and are mostly friendly about it. Not necessairly friends though. The debating can get preety hot, so chances of becoming friends are much less. Although people now keep their cool much more often.
January 25, 200719 yr We all know each other, but I could hardly call half of them friends. We are all... acquaintances. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!

January 25, 200719 yr We all know each other, but I could hardly call half of them friends. We are all... acquaintances. Thats a good word for it I thought so too. Yeah, but deep inside I miss the old OT where every other thread was a flame. Yeah, it did get old after a while, but some of those topics were very insightful. You guys notice Ghost and MPC are gone?Yes, I noticed before. I am just pointing it out. :-s Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!
January 26, 200719 yr I miss a lot of the old regulars and the whole DW mafia thing. The closeness those guys had together strengthened the whole board's closeness. And a year ago it seemed we had a lot more intelligent posters, whereas now it seems we have posters who post with more emotion than intelligence. It feels like this board in general is younger - that or I'm just getting older. Don't take this as me saying things are going downhill in anyway. They're not. We just have different kinds of members now. I do think the OT community used to be closer though. Not significantly, but I think there's a difference. (edit: I think when we're referring to "the old OT," we're all using different time periods. Some people call the old OT community consisting of way different people than I was thinking of, but I've been around awhile.)
January 26, 200719 yr Meh , somewhat. I've been on more 'tight-knitted' boards though. Mainly IMDb. Me doing staff.

I Definitely agree, there were more intelligent posters last year. A lot of names come to mind. But in todays OT, no names of spectacular posters really stand out. I disliked the flame wars a whole lot, but I rather sacrifice that than intelligent posters. Viktor whats IMDb?

I mean we had a couple big ones, but for the most part, it was okay. I remember when I first joined, I had a huge disagreement with yomom, lol. January 26, 200719 yr Viktor whats IMDb? IMDb (Internet Movie Database) You can find me on the Phantom of the Opera boards under the screen name 'TheMaskedMan52'. Our board has turned into one huge off topic "phamily". :P Me doing staff.

I don't remember much about it, but I think it had something to do with RS. I passed you off as arrogant lol (obviously my opinion has changed). I was pretty foolish too. Wait, 4 years from now I am going to call myself foolish right now. Trix.--quit WoW as of 12/07Thank you 4be2jue for the wonderful sig and avatar!

But just that board makes sense. I could see something like that. A lot of the other boards aren't very tight-knit, people are generally very rude with no provocation at all.
January 26, 200719 yr We're all homeez maan. Well. I guess. It seems like there's some 'cliques' hanging out on the boards, but most people tend to get along. Besides some people I do dislike, I get along with everyone. ;P won't you say you love me too? It really has

I fully agree, except for the part where you said it's not going downhill. The community feel is gone since some people left and some people joined. Even I wasn't as arrogant as some of these people when I joined. The newer people had probably labeled me as an arse, but the thing is, I wouldn't be an [wagon] to you if you weren't one to begin with. :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
January 26, 200719 yr I miss a lot of the old regulars and the whole DW mafia thing. The closeness those guys had together strengthened the whole board's closeness. Most of them still read but some of them don't actively post anymore ;) I should be saying 'us' instead of them though.

Besides some people I do dislike, I get along with everyone. ;P won't you say you love me too? <3. I would call some of the people I know on here friends. Overall I think we're a pretty close-knit community, at least I've noticed that a lot of us at least respect the others opinion a bit more. So far the religious topics (now that they are back) have been handled well with the exception of a few people.
January 26, 200719 yr scapeboard OT was pretty tight; the first year of this incarnation of forums it was moderately tight also.
January 26, 200719 yr Given my short time on these forums, the OT forum specifically, I couldn't say much about the community, although there are many sensible and friendly people here. It seems that those with a significant amount of posts (say 3000 plus) are all pretty level headed, even if I don't agree with them. Perhaps time makes us learn to cope with each others differences? Anyway there are some people who tend to come into arguments and just ruin it for one whole side with ignorance (this is where I can sympathise with Barihawk in my evolution topic which evidently turned into a religous discussion) and kind of lower the collective IQ of the topic. There's also alot of people who like music similar to me, which is always a way to relate. Touching on the fact that we obviously wont always agree on topics such as religion, something I think we should lean towards doing is providing reasoning for our opinions, not just thowing them around as if we are all right when we obviously all can't be. Anyway, there's my thoughts.
