lobsta
I only weightlift for a physically appealing body. Before I do any weight lifting or toning of my body I make sure Im a certain weight before hand, especially after christmas Ive put on some weight and I've gone up to 11 and a half stone. Im working on getting back down to 10 stone 8 before I do any heavy lifting.. So a lot of jogging, I walk/jog everywhere I go and cut down on everything unhealthy, whilst working atm Im a shop assistant at a local supermarket and Ive requested to work on the shop floor, re-stocking, cleaning, facing up products because its physically harder than simply working at a till. A lot of people just want to be stronger, its not my main desire but I do tend to do a lot of push ups, weights and I use my punching back most days.. Im more interested in learning 'how to fight', considering taking tai quan do. Good cardio sessions mixed with endurancefull body work outs are the best way to loose weight and tone up. T-Roach
bodybuilding >>>>> weight/power lifting I absolutely disagree. :P plz explain bodybuilding= body in good form, which is great to look at (at least most people like to look at it.) For example models. They're not bodybuilders perhaps but they do stay in shape, and thats y people like to see THEM on the covers of magazines and such. + you gain strength, and u get bigger weight/power lifting= U look hideous (againt to MOST people) , though u gain a lot of strength. Ambassadar
Body builders have to get on diuretics for days before their competitions and dehydrate the heck out of their bodies. That isn't healthy. They also take roids and have heart problems from it. Take Schwarzenegger's heart attack a few years back as an example of that. Body building almost always involves steroids. If you watch a non steroid bodybuilding competition and compare it to most bodybuilders you know of the differences are huge.

Ambassadar
Hehe... that is one fine looking woman.... I don't think going to an extreme either way is good or healthy. I guess I should rephrase what I meant. I think practical strength training for use in things like sports, martial arts or the military is better than bodybuilding and no I don't mean looking like a sumo wrestler is good. I mean more normal sports like soccer, baseball, basketball, etc
mrmyk
whenever i go to the gym (2-3 times a week) i make sure to do some benchpress along with shoulderpress  I have dumbells at home which i do about 200 reps a day with and think it really works. I've been doing this for a few months so the way to weight lifting is doing about medium amounts over a long period of time. :P Proud Retired Council of The GladiatiorzClick here for our website - 110+ F2P Combat Requirements
BlueLancer
I have dumbells at home which i do about 200 reps a day ..No excercise (at 200 reps a day) will help you get muscle mass. Just a note, in case you just build endurance.
wakka102
Body building..Weight lifting..It doesn't matter  . People are going too much in depth into the title...I agree that cut is waaaaay better then the dudes you see at body building competitions, they are just scary. I was using it as a general term. My goal is to be lean and cut :) .

Heart problems, back problems and so on and so forth Professional bodybuilders take a lot of steroids and hormones that could be very damaging in the long run. Proportionally, they're not as strong as they look. It's just a matter of opinion, but i'd rather gain strength and power and as a consequence tone my body. That said, I have a lot of respect for their dedication. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
T-Roach
^^^^^^^^^^^^ i wasnt talking about Pro bodybuilding, i was talking of it being a hobby. i dont know about u, but as far as my "bodybuilding career" goes, ive only taken protein shakes and creatine. thats it besides, pro bodybuilders almost always start out as weight/power lifters and then go into bodybuilding, so yes, they actually still are pretty fing strong. T-Roach
yes., but once again ur talking about professional bodybuilders who dont look that attractive IMO. im talking about bodybuilders who dont necessary compete against steroid using machines who do nothing but lift, eat and sleep. im talking about the body types u c on roman and greek art, and the commercials/model shows of today Doctor of Dental Surgery-2014Medical Doctor-2018?Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon-2024?
