Weight Lifting!

Without :P . I've struggled with self asteem issues my whole life, mainly due to my body. I'ts greatly improved since I started lifting so it is doing something for me both physically and mentally. I just want to take this to the max that I can take it :) .

If people pay more attention because you've got a better looking body, are they really people you want attention from? I know I'm making assumptions here but eh I'll shoot

Well if someone says "hey, you look great!" or "hey, you have a nice 6 pack!" that would just make me feel awesome. Plus, I like the challenge and I'm just one of those people that like to look good :) . Sure, it wouldn't completely change me as a person, but it does help boost my self confidence and that helps alot.

I used to think the same as you Wakka, and one of the reasons i got into fitness was to look better so that I would feel better about myeself. I know that I look hell of a lot better than i did before working out, my arms are bigger, and i often get complimented on my pecs and general physique. The problem is, it DOES NOT make you feel better. The thing is, is that you'll keep wanting to push yourself further and further, to refine the biceps, or get slicker abs. How you see yourself and how other see you, is completely different. Despite being complimented and stuff, and knowing i look better, i still look in the mirror and see myeself as small.

I'm also a body building freak. I used to be very skinny (120 lbs at 5'11"). I'm now about 138lbs, still 5'11", in only about a month. I can really see the difference. My friends comment on my shoulders and biceps, and how much bigger I look. I'm aiming for about 150 lbs before I start just maintaining the look.

I don't take any supplements, I just drink a hell load of milk, and eat a lot of protein enriched foods, such as eggs, and chicken etc. I was thinking of getting Whey Protein milkshakes or something, just for a post-workout drink.

There's no need for things like Creatin, just drink and eat right you should be able to get the physique you want. I'm an ectomorph, so I really have to work my behind off to gain weight, not only that, if I miss a meal, I'm almost practically losing weight.

I go to the gym every two days, meaning one day of rest. That equates to about 3-4 times per week. Sometimes I don't give myself a day's rest, and go for 3 days in a row, but that's only like once a fortnight, or when I'm bored at home with nothing to do.

Say, I start on a Monday.

Monday - Chest, Triceps, Biceps(Minimal), Shoulders.

Wednesday - Back, Biceps, Abs,

Friday - Legs, Chest, Triceps.

I dunno why you train the Chest and Biceps together, since most chest exerices utilize the triceps, while the back exercises(etc. pull ups) utilize the biceps more.

Why taking Elztrak has saved me and my families relationship! Now I am a healthy man with in good standing with my father and mother. I don't know what I would do without this pill!

However.. side effects include liver disease.. so I had to take another pill called Coszed. I don't know what I would do without Coszed!

However.. side effects include lung damage.. so I had to take Igema. I don't know what I would do to have a healthy family without Igema!

However.. side effects include leg problems.. so I had to take Elcorak. I don't know what I would do without being able to maintain a healthy relationship without Elcorak!

However.. side effects include brain damage.. so I had to take Kezoma. I don't know what I would do without Kezoma! It has saved my relationships!

A nitrogenous organic acid, C4H9N3O2, that is found in the muscle tissue of vertebrates mainly in the form of phosphocreatine and supplies energy for muscle contraction.

As it is found naturally, it shouldn't be bad for you, but excessive amounts could be. Use it in moderation and you should be fine. (If you choose to take this information you wave any legal liabilities I might me liable for. :uhh:  :P )

Did you know your brain, every night, releases a chemical called DMT that is like taking acid, only a bagillion times worse? It induces REM sleep. Taking DMT (you can extract it from pretty much everything, like grass...Yea, lawn clippings...) while awake makes you see some crazy insane stuff.

Not everything natural is good. :P

Edit: Apparently Adam007 already mentioned DMT...I didn't read it at the time. :P

I already corrected myself by stating something along the lines of 'if something is natural and has no apparant detrimental affects, it shouldn't be too bad for you (in moderation of course)'

Obviously you shouldn't go outside and kiss snakes assuming everything in nature is good for you, thus why I corrected myself.

Welcome to puberty... :P

This doesn't happen to someone that isn't in the middle of puberty unless they are on 'roids(which are HORRRRRIBLE for you). I know this because it is similar to what my body did. From 9th to 10th grade I went from 5'9 to 6'3. From 10th grade to 11th I went from 155 to 195 all muscle. From 11th grade on I've only fluctuated +-7 pounds from that weight even though my strength, muscle, and how cut I am has varied greatly in that range. (I graduated college a couple of years ago)

Don't feel bad anyone if you can't reproduce his 18lbs in one month. That is either roids or puberty. If you can average gaining 1/2 a pound of muscle a week you are doing awesome. If you are trying to lose weight losing 1 or 2 lbs a week is a great pace and the healthy way to do it. Remember... getting a body like you want isn't a diet or workout... its an entire lifestyle change in terms of what you eat, how much you eat, and how you keep yourself fit. If it isn't seen as such whatever you accomplish you won't keep.

I have a question Wakka that you can PM me if you don't want to say on a public forum. A lot of what you are going to be trying to do depends on what your body type is. I already know you have a slow metabolism. Are you a large guy? Are you naturally strong? For the best advice you need to give us an idea of height/weight/bodyfat percentage and where your target is in regards to these, how long u have been working out, what an idea of your present diet is, what body type you are, etc. For example, are you naturally a big hefty guy? A lot of times those guys can pack on the muscle and look like hosses. Me personally I got my mom's skinny genes so if I don't work out my muscles just get smaller and weaker while I lose my tone in my stomach and midsection. I'll never be a huge muscle guy but I can get as strong as huge muscle guys and ripped if I have the effort in.

The big guy might do better with a high rep mid weight workout to focus on toning his already larger frame and muscles up. A guy with my build might do better to focus on low rep high intensity lifting to build muscle since naturally ours are smaller to start with. You always want to cycle your lifting(another variation to keep your muscles from getting used to lifts and stalling out) some between training endurance and strength/size but with my build I keep my cycle in the strength/size side of things longer than a naturally big guy would.

A lot of what you can look like is genetics. Things like where your muscles connect and if you are more white muscle or red muscle, if you can get a six pack or not, etc makes a difference in what body type you can make yourself. Don't try to look identical to some model guy cuz most likely your genetics are different than his. You will probably have better genetics in some areas than him and worse genetics in other areas.

In regard to somatype (bodytype) there are 3 groups that I am aware of:

Ectomorph: somebody who is naturally thin and does not put on muscle easily.

Mesomorph: Someone with broadshoulders, who puts on muscle a lot easier. Mesomorph is the typical masculine look.

Endomorph: someone who puts on fat very easily.

So some people are genetically disposed to put on muscle easily, and some people are geneticaly disposed to put on fat more easily.

In regard to 'red' and 'white' muscle. These are different muscle fibre types.

White, or 'Fast Twitch' muscle fibres are responsible for fast high intensity activity, such as resistance trainning.

Red, or 'Slow Twitch' muscle fibres, are responsible for less intensity activity. You use predominantly more slow twitch muscle fibres when your standing around, using your hams, glutes, quads. They take on a red appearance due to great blood supply.

Lobsta is correct in what he is saying. In regards to red and white muscle different people genetically usually have a larger concentration of one or the other. You can train your muscle so that you change concentrations to a point but guys like Vince Carter will always have mostly explosive red muscle while guys like Lance Armstrong will always be predisposed to white endurance muscle. The point being that a lot of what your body can be is genetics so don't get frustrated if it isn't what you consider your ideal.

I find it funny how everyone always wants to be someone else. The skinny type guy wishes he could put on muscle like the big guy. The big guy wishes he could get as cut as the skinny guy. Everyone needs to learn to appreciate the positives of their own body, push themself to their own potential and be satisfied for a job well done. That's all you can do... and it is enough. :D

Actually.. It's completely the opposite :P Generally, weighlifters and physical workers have more white muscle fiber, and marathon runner, bikers, etc. have lots of red muscle fiber.

And yes, your muscle and bone growth, just like your physical height, hair color, etc. is defined and limited by your genes. Most people can never achieve the muscle mass Arnold or professional bodybuilders have, even with steroids.

Now I work out on a regular basis to look good for the hunnies, and i have personally noticed a loss in muscle mass when you stop taking creatine. I stopped for about 2 weeks all together and i felt a difference.I wouldnt suggest taking creatine because you NEED to keep taking it to retain all of the progress you have made. I suggest taking protein instead. Thats just my 3 sents

My friend just borrowed me this book called "The Body Sculpting Bible for Men" that he's been using to work out (and getting results after a year of doing stuff wrong :P)...You should probably get it. I think he said it was like $15...$18 with tax or whatever. I was flipping through and they have a thing about Creatine...I dunno' if they were for or against it though, I didn't read it yet.

I love weight lifting! If you have not started, I recommend you do.

I have my own weight system at home at work out every other day.

I used to work out everyday, but I realized I was actually losing muscle! So I did some research and realized I was burning muscle from working out to much. So I cut back to let my body rebuild.

I have never taken any supplements what-so-ever. (I drink milk  .)

I only weightlift for a physically appealing body. Before I do any weight lifting or toning of my body I make sure Im a certain weight before hand, especially after christmas Ive put on some weight and I've gone up to 11 and a half stone. Im working on getting back down to 10 stone 8 before I do any heavy lifting..

So a lot of jogging, I walk/jog everywhere I go and cut down on everything unhealthy, whilst working atm Im a shop assistant at a local supermarket and Ive requested to work on the shop floor, re-stocking, cleaning, facing up products because its physically harder than simply working at a till.

A lot of people just want to be stronger, its not my main desire but I do tend to do a lot of push ups, weights and I use my punching back most days.. Im more interested in learning 'how to fight', considering taking tai quan do.
