To be fair, I feel like I should quote a link that has long been in Red Tanya's sig: Firefox Myths

Yes, I still use firefox because I like it.

Cool, so does this mean I win? 8-)

Couldn't microsoft sue Firefox(or mozilla) for stealing there name? :-k

No, because I bet they never copyrighted IE7. Just Internet Explorer 7. :P

Do you mean for that website URL? If so, then no, I'm fairly sure that Microsoft hasn't copyrighted "IE7", it is just two letters and a number.

reminds me of somthing years ago, some bloke baught the website "www.itunes.com" before apple did, and in effect held it to ransom. Apple did eventualy offer a large ammount of money for it. The owner linked his website back to Napster (which at the time was as big, and free, as limewire today).

Nope

This reminds me of that guy who registered http://www.mcdonalds.com and offered to sell it to mcdonalds for ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100. Got taken to court and got more than ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100

Ie7 has just as many options as FF has.

Last time I checked FF was open source meaning that FF has the potential for infinite options. Not to mention the thousands of add-ons already existing for it.

Microsoft can't sue FF for the site, but there is a process where they could gain control of the domain name if they can show that the site is being used for the wrong purpose (there have been instances of this, where presidential candidates, including Hillary Clinton, have gained control of the web site using their name)

This is the benefit to FF, many people dont know that though, and (in my opinion) IE7 is much user friendly when it comes to your 'average' web functions ... so it just matters what kind of a person you are while surfing the web, both work for general surfing just as well as the other

I really don't see what all the fuss is about, because Opera wipes the floor with the other browsers anyway.

After I saw that a while back I thought I'd swith to Opera, since it is the best. I didn't like the way it worked at all, I gave up on it after about 15 minutes.

Well, to be fair, that's what truly determines the 'best' browser for a user. It's the way they use it and how well it accomodates and individual needs. Whether it's Opera's speed, Firefox's add-ons, IE's layout; the solution is different for everyone.

You Cant sue someone for registering a domain

Microsoft would have to file a UDRP even then they donot stand a chance of winning it.

since the owner of that domain is in the UK it is even harder to take legal action.

I also doubt you could copyright IE7

I still don't get it :|

Bob wants to download internet explorer 7.

Bob types http://www.ie7.com in his adress bar

Bob stumble at a giant ad of firefox.

Now the following might happen :

1 - Bob is curious and check the site out, then download firefox and never downloads ie7

2 - Bob thinks its the official site and downloads Firefox

3 - Bob goes to google and type ie7 to find the real site, click the link and go back to the same page XD He figure out he must go there finally

4 - Bob is like "wth" and closes his browser window.

5 - Bob eventually 1 day find the real download site

So theres a fair chance this will remove alot of users from ie7 XD thats whats funneh

I use a Mac and so my browser icon sits nice and largely on my Dock where I see it all of the time. I quit using Opera because I thought its icon was terribly ugly. Firefox's icon is much more aesthetically pleasing, and that's a HUGE factor in picking my browser. :P

Yep, that's why I called Opera the best :P . If I started out using Opera I wouldn't be in this predicament, I've just been using Fx so long that I am used to it, and can't adapt to anything else.

ummmm.... closed source software also has the potential of infinite options if the developers decides to add them.

That was funny, even though I don't use FF.

there are not as many viruses for mac.

WHICH is why Mac is much safer than Windows. This is common knowledge. And no, I don't use Mac.

FF being superior to IE is your opinion, it is not a fact.

Finally a debate where faith plays no role.

1. FF has a built-in popup blocker.

2. FF has built-in tabbed browsing.

3. FF has more options...

And here is why I use Mac:

No viruses, and it's default web browser has all the same stuff as FF.

Sorry, I just had to get that out, didn't mean to get off-topic.

Wait, how can you get off-topic in the off-topic forum?

That too, seeing something made by Microsoft on my Mac made me freak out.

Yeah same. I gave Opera a go, but I could never be comfortable with it, and I like all my add-ons on FF.

Oh and considering its open source FF, couldn't someone who knew how Opera worked create it just as fast when the new FF comes out? Why is one faster than the other, and can't FF change it so their both the same (FF and Opera) in terms of speed? :?

Oh and I loved how they turned IE7.com into that FF website...very nice.
