Knightboy190
Teens doing drugs, underage drinking, people getting killed left and right, wars all over the world, Iran threatining Israel with Nuclear weapons. I was talking to my Grandparents and they used to say how people were so nice and how they would give the coat off thier back to a person in need. Now instead of helping them we kill them just because they have had a bit of bad luck. Why? Whats wrong with the world? I personally think people are just too greedy and to selfish and that they think the world revolves around them and that nothing else matters. I want your opinions though. Adam007
I think you've got a case of overglorified "those were the good ol days!" mentality going on. Everyone makes the past seem happier and better than it really was. To quickly just counter your example, things were worse during the Vietnam war. There are fluctuations, but overall there's no change in unity really. Right after 9/11 everyone was extremely united, and that was only a few years ago. If you're taking a few years and applying it to "the world," you're making a huge leap.

Adam007
Ya but are we like that still? Think about all the kid nappings and wars and murders. Very united. How are kidnappings, wars, and murders occurring more now than before? If anything they were more prevalent in the past than now. The past had some pretty dark, violent, and gruesome times that you're ignoring. You should be thankful for how good we have it in the now, and not be all upset because inevitable things like that happen.
BlueLancer
The world's always been a mess. Nothing's changed within the past few years/decades. Correction: The past few millennia. What makes the 21st century any different from other historical centuries, other than the fact that some people are better off than their ancestors could've ever imagined in their wildest dreams? Check how many wars are going on now and compare it to the 20th, 19th, 18th century and so on. Check out world poverty rates and compare it to the earlier centuries when basically everybody not from a royal family lived among dirt and scarce food. People like to whine just because. Actually, if you live in a western country and have internet access, you are privileged in the world. The internet has about ~1 billion regular users, there are soon nearly 7 billion people. Even less than 1b have a computer at home. Those issues mentioned in the OP have always existed in the world, just less in the 21th century. indy500fan
Any of the usual forum rules apply. I never understood why some opening posters put rules in for "their" topic. It's not your topic, you just made the opening post. And this case is even worse than others because you just said usual forum rules apply. Well thanks captain obvious, I would never have guessed that. And didn't we just have a "what's wrong with the world" topic a week or two ago? warri0r45
Things (poverty, for example) are getting better these days. It's still a horrid mess in Africa, but it's better. We are richer as a planet and I believe we have come out of our all time low last century, this being WW1, WW2 and the cold war period. However, attitues seem to be at a low. Selfishness, personal greed and violent natures towards others seem to be proliferating all over the news and current affair programs. Now I believe this is for two reasons: The avaliability of drugs (alcohol, Ice and other stimulants make people violent) and the proliferation of information. We're swimming in it and that means we can't get away from the violence, selfishness and greed we see through the media. The world is a cruel place. Don't let it get to you. ktmcf121
the problem is, people can't agree with one another. freaking liberals are so idealistic and conservatives are too uptight about everything. if only the entire world was apathetic as i was, it would be a much better place. :-k
Obsessive_Passion
I think the social conflict has always been there in society. Human emotions, actions and reactions remain the same throughout time. The only variable, I think, is the society surrounding them. So, what has changed? Increased presence of the media highlighting these stories. Of course, any ignorant fool can blatantly 'blame the media!', but this increased presence might also be the result of our decreased sensitivity to these issues. Consider this: you turn the TV on, switch it to the 6:30 PM news and you hear about a car crash on the highway - a news headline. What if you recognise the number plate and realise it's a family member? The news report would have come sooner than that dreaded telephone call. Hmm, maybe that's slightly off-topic. Pardon me, if it is.

Its just at a larger extent these days. And I think as a whole its getting a lot worse these days. The values they had 100 years ago aren't what they are today. Oh and also to the Author, the normal forum rules always apply, it applies whether the OP'er says it or not.
