Adam007
Teens doing drugs, underage drinking, people getting killed left and right, wars all over the world, Iran threatining Israel with Nuclear weapons. I was talking to my Grandparents and they used to say how people were so nice and how they would give the coat off thier back to a person in need. Now instead of helping them we kill them just because they have had a bit of bad luck. Why? Whats wrong with the world? I personally think people are just too greedy and to selfish and that they think the world revolves around them and that nothing else matters. I want your opinions though. Tell me what you think. -------- Any of the usual forum rules apply. -------- Thanks :wall: The world has always been that way. :? yeah we've just gone back in time to the 60's, think about it, Kids doing drugs-hippies iran and israel-America and Russia War in Iraq-vietnam ooh that means that England should've won the world cup last year, damn....oh well, the rest of it is like the 60's Except the US has become really conservative, whereas in the 60's it was really liberal. People in masses were taking a stand against the war, but the youth of today are pretty quiet compared to back then. I'm telling you guys, you can't make generalizations about how our time period compares to other time periods when you haven't experienced them. Hearing your grandparents talk about how safe and happy their lives were compared to now isn't something you can base these opinions off of. ctp080188
I think you fail to see there have been many wars, greater then this one in Iraq that people have had to endure. World War I & II, numerous other smaller battles and wars, dictators causing havok, these happen all throughout history. Just because we are seeing first hand a "war" does not mean that the world has suddenly turned into a place of disgust. Wars have happened before and will happen again. There is no need to lose faith in humanity. And don't get it wrong people still do good deeds for each other, they just don't tell you. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED. Viktorkrum77
Ya but are we like that still? Think about all the kid nappings and wars and murders. Very united. If you flip through history (ancient history) you'll see it repeats itself on countless occasions. The world has more options now, but the basic principle of how the world is messed up by man has always been since man became civilized. Me doing staff. FunPhish
I like how you started with teens doing drugs and underage drinking, I mean that's really what has gotten us into this mess with the middle-east, didn't we learn from WW2?
starsteller
It's not actually worse today, it just seemed worse. Back in the "good ol' days", people had no clue what was going on. Information didn't travel nearly as fast. Back then, people didn't know about hurricanes across the country. Thank the world for spell checkers. aaron1120
The world's always been a mess. Nothing's changed within the past few years/decades. "We keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change. It's hard to beat the system when we're standing at a distance, so we keep waiting, waiting on the world to change..." Maybe we should stop waiting and have someone do something about it. < | Runehead | Learning Java Programming, Please PM Me Tips | Signature by Loaf2000 | >
gonpost
I'd argue that the world, as a whole, is better than it has ever been. The difference now is that there are fewer closed doors, and so we can see everything. In past years, many of the things we know of now would have been completely foreign or unfathomable. We also have more people today in the world, which in itself poses new problems that never existed in the past. Runescape Name: "unbug07"Expand your mind. jjrox32
The world is not more messed up than it normally was. It's always been a mess since humans inhabitted it. We screw things up, it's just human nature. Human nature is very, very flawed. Greed, violence, and bias are all part of human nature. And when these things aren't kept in check, bad things happen. The war is Iraq is nothing compared to WWII. Sure, the weapons might be better, and more destructive, but the war in Iraq isn't even close to what the Nazis did and what measures had to be taken to take them down. If you don't know how brutal the Nazis were, go on wikipedia.org and search "Holocaust." Do you know what one of the main Nazi goals was? Finding the most effecient way to kill Jews. That is disgusting. The world is better off right now than it was a while ago, excluding the global warming thing and the fact that we will soon run out of natural resources. Ginger_Warrior
It's basic aminal nature to have your family gain as much territory/luxuries as possible. The difference between us and animals is the fact we can write, but the mentality is still there. Only, because we class ourselves as 'intelligent', we've decided to hide our greed and selfishness with the name of 'capitalism', which sounds slightly more glorious. But don't fool yourself, capitalism only works at the expense of other people. In our world today, it could be argued that the people who suffer from this globalisation are poor African impoverished farmers, and Indonesian mill-workers in the employment of about 10 cents an hour for Disney. That pretty much sums it up, but I hear you ask, "why don't we do anything about it?". Well, you're right. People in the 60s actually cared about the world. It shows with the miner's strikes, and protests against Vietnam, and civil rights movements. Nowdays, the only protests I can think of in the past 5 years in Britain or America was the Iraq War protests. The fact is, it wasn't deemed as uncool to be interested in politics. Indeed, some people thought being a Communist was cool. Nowadays, if I walked into school (well college...) and said that I actually cared about the world and its politics, I'd be called a geek who has nothing better to do than watch the news. The world hasn't got any worse, it's always been our nature to be selfish. No-one (not even Gandhi, or Martin Luther King Jr., or anyone) rises above this, they are all driven by their own motives. It's just that nowdays, people seem to to think it's cool to be apathetic about politics, until it actually comes round and hits them. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
1_man_army
The world does have problems, it always has and always will. The reason why everyone thinks that "nowadays" are so bad is because when people look back they tend to do it nostalgically - forgetting the hardshipsof the past in favour of the happier times. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
Rebdragon
I just failed my driving test for braking to sharply at an amber light. That is what is wrong with the world -.- That's a pretty lame reason to fail completely...It's okay though, I failed mine the first time too for turning into the far lane on a one-way. :P Heh.. I flew (yes, flew, not knick, flew) over a curb during my drivers test, I still passed :P . First time I flew over a curb, had to be during my test -.-. If it's your first time taking the test peeps, watch out, you're not going to drive your best :ohnoes: . Then I make that illegal turn. Doh. I felt like a dork. I had parking down so well and then I couldn't even DO it. Lame.
