...Correct me if I am wrong, but to be a part of an Abrahamic religion, you do not have to agree with everything. I accept that parts of it are exaggeratedly...well really exaggerated.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Kinda' defeats the purpose to pick and choose, don't you think?

All I am saying is that to be part of a faith you can accept that parts are exaggerated. IT's not like it is exactly interrelated with the faith itself. The faith isn't dependent on this exaggerated event.

You're using exaggeration as a fancy word for "lie".

There is no way the entire world flooded. The entire middle eastern area? Not likely. The entire around around X river? Very possible.

There is no way every animal was packed onto a ship. There is no way said ship would even be able to be built. It would have been bigger than any ship we know today, even.

It's a complete lie. It isn't exaggerated, it's a lie. It's a story.

The river flooded and some animals were put on a ship? IT was exaggerated! Just because something is exaggerated doesn't mean it is a total lie. I think the exaggeration is silly too. I know there is no way every animal was packed on to the ship.

Why even bother attributing the Flood to Science? God can destroy the world any way he wants, why limit him to Newton's Laws?

If you take that apporach then convientley all of Gods work can't be proved by us and by that token, disproved. Which to me is a cop-out.

Well, if you believe in God, I think you're supposed to have faith that he did all of that stuff. It can't be proved, but it doesn't need to be. You've got to have faith that He exists and that He did all of that stuff. I don't think his work was meant to be proved or disproved.

I'm not Christian, by the way. Just mentioning that.

Not even Christian and you understand that. VEry Nice. =D>

Well, I'm not really Christian, but I got bored at church one time and read almost the whole bible... (It's about as boring as listening to preachers/pastors stating the obvious and telling people things that they can easily figure out by themselves).

Yes, the flood supposedly did cover the whole earth. And yes it was supernatural. But what might've actually happened is this:

Not too long after humans started communicating verbally or through pictures, a big human encampment was flooded. A few humans there had boats, so they put as many domesticated animals and humans as they could on those few boats. Either the village and its surrounding area was covered by water for a few days, or one or more boats got pulled by the currents towards an ocean/sea (therefore, this might've happened in the Nile or Yangtze delta, or, if the current thought that mount Ararat is really where the ark stopped, maybe even Turkey or East Africa (the Nile would still work, but this would mean that most of the animals were eaten)). This story was then retold every generation, of course with slight exaggerations. These humans then conquered all the other groups of humans in their vicinity, and therefore the story spread. Afterwards, the story-believers traded and colonized. That's why a lot of cultures have different versions of this story.

Losers...

Are you blind or ignoring me on purpose?

Even though I sometimes side with religious people in some debates, I no longer consider myself religious.

interesting but, I think it is wrong.

I believe God flooded the whole earth because humans had turned against God and God told Noah-a faithfull follower of God to build a boat a very big boat( read Genesis and see the dimensions). 50 years + later God told Noah to gather all the animals into the boat and flooded the earth with rain from what is believed to be a coat of water around the earth to make it almost perfect weather year round. After this Noah, sent out a couple of birds after it had stopped raining and when the bird did not come back he landed and reproduced from their....< I summed this up pretty quickly...so I may have left something out.

I understand that, man. I totally get what you're saying, however it's written in the context that it's 100% true and that it is the devine, inspired word of God. It isn't, that is a lie.

Because it's about time he drowned all the sinners against an cleanses the earth :uhh:

He promised never again to destroy the world by flood.

And yes, believe it or not I actually do have Faith. Give me a Christian who doesn't believe in this 'hocus-pocus' and I would be shocked.

world-wide flood never happened.....multiple ways to prove otherwise, here are a few of my favorites:

The flood allegedly happened 5,000 years ago, during that time the Egyptians were flourishing as a powerful civiliazation. In the literature of ancient Egypt, the most powerful and most advanced nation in the world at the alleged time of the Great Flood, there is no mention of a catastrophic flood of world wide proportions. If such a flood had occurred, all of the Egyptians would have been drowned. That obviously didn't happen. There is no physical evidence that there was a world wide flood, which would have killed ALL vegetation, thus there would have been no food for the alleged Ark full of animals. Fossil life does not reflect a mass killing of all animals worldwide. Mass flooding would have caused a slurry of mixed up fossils of every dead animal in the world....never happened.

However, the most devastating problem facing believers in the flood myth surfaces in Numbers 13:33. Here the Israelites encounter the sons of Anak. The Anakites came from the Nephilim (giants) who, according to Genesis 6:2-4, originated in pre-flood times as a result of the sexual union of male angels (sons of God) and the daughters of men. Therefore the presence in post-flood Canaan of Anakites, the descendants of the Nephilim, would mean that not all who lived on earth, other than Noah and his immediate family, were killed in the flood. This stands as a direct contradiction of Genesis 6:17 where God vows to, . . . bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; every thing that is in the earth shall die.

The mind is like a parachute, it is only good if it is open. To blindly believe something when all physical proof shows otherwise is only foolish.

You sir, are an idiot.

Signature3.gif

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

ok, i respect your opinion of me. but, may i ask, why does believing in something bigger and better than yourself, and live a good, hateless, loving, caring life without premarital sex or profanity mean im an idiot? even if the bible isnt true, that there is no god, i will still die happy of living a good life rather than not and wasting on drugs and girls. how sir, does that make me an idiot? because i dont believe in science? well, we survived a long time without carbon dating, and i am entitled to my own opinion.

Agreed. I think you're almost as bad as these "deranged fanatics." And actually, I've rarely even encountered any of these people and the ones I have shouldn't even be taken seriously. Maybe that will change next year in college. Anyways you should probably get a hobby if you take the Bible apart just to "shove it down the throats" of these "deranged fanatics." That HAS to take a lot of time.
