With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

Kinda predicable really and rather boring for a 4 hour ceremony. The typical teary actress one of the few highlights of the night.

'Pan's Labyrinth' (El laberinto del fauno) clearly should have won 'Best foreign language film' rather than 'The Lives of Others' yawning2.gif and I suppose 'Happy Feet' was the best of a bad bunch for 'Best animated feature film of the year' <.<

Oscars is a sham really... they mean next to nothing now.

A meaningless nod from your supposed peers... lots of golden handshakes and judges who are so old, they wouldn't know a good movie if their lives depended on it.

It's all politics man.

LOL, sorry for the rant... just sick of undeserving films getting kudos while the pure talent and genious are ignored :boohoo:

It was a pretty good night, had 14 good predictions (failed on short documantary, short animated, normal short, sound editing and best animated movie, I think Oh, best support. actor was wrong as well same as best foreign film and original screenplay). It was a great show, and when Marty could finaly pick up his Oscar we all got a little emotional. :P Beautiful moment, and glad that I have seen it live!

Film 1. It's a special channel that you have to pay for. I don't have it, but my friend has got it, so he invited me and another friend. Was a great night, first we went out for some good dinner, then we saw Dreamgirls and after that a cab to bring us to Hollywood. But did you really fell asleep during the best Director part?!?

To be perfectly honest I fell asleep before it even started due to Fern Cottons dire interviewing of celebrities on the way in *yawn*

Good question lol... difficult to say exactly, but I'll try and answer.

I suppose it depends on the type of movie. But overall, I'd have to say that if I leave the cinema and i'm still thinking about the movie a few hours later, then I'd define that as an excellent movie.

As an example, say Fight Club. Fight Club has only won two recognised awards, neither of which were an Oscar. Yet this movie had everything that you would want.

Outstanding plot (very intricate and fiendishly clever)

Originality (a rarity these days)

Subtle special effects

Appropriate sound track

Despite this, it was only nominated for one Oscar and didn't win it. Instead, inferior movies like Almost Famous, Traffic and Gladiator won awards.

In saying this... it's all a matter of opinion and I respect that others will have a different point of view.

Traffic isn't inferior to Fight Club. It's the other way around. :) But it's okay, you're only human.

LOL, like I said mate... matter of opinion. ;)

Aren't the Oscars just a 'matter of opinion'?

Well I watched about the last two hours of it maybe, just kind of had it on in the background. I remember now why I never watch these things, 4 or 5 hours can be covered in just 5 minutes by looking on the internet the next day. It was nice to see Martin Scorsese get his Oscar though. I actually enjoyed watching the collages of movies they had throughout the night, just looking for the movies I've seen.

Nope, putting the judges up in a 5 star hotel, spoiling them with lots of gifts and paying the media to print certain things and being friends with a certain person or owing a favour, doesn't really count as "Matter of opinion" I'm affraid.

Bear in mind that an academy award essentially doubles your DVD/VHS sales. There's a lot at stake and a lot of money changes hands.

Sorry, I just take whatever Oscars are nomiated with a large pinch of salt now.

LOL, I apologise... I'm such a cynic ;) ;) ;)

LOL, there's no smoke without fire...

Again, sources. Don't beat around the bush, just show me where you heard all of this.

I don't have any links offhand. Most of what I've read is in magazines and various news sites.

Much of it is also common sense.

If I find any links I'll be sure to post them... btw, I'm not being entirely serious, just an off the cuff remark tbh
