Favourite cheesy 80's film?

Featured Replies

Those of us that were alive in the 80's no doubt have a favourite cheesy film from that era (by god there were plenty to choose from) - we know they are not necessarily good films, but we love them anyway because they hold a certain nostalgia.

What is yours and why?

I have three favourites from that time:

The Goonies - "Dead things, Mikey, dead things!"

To date, this is the film with the most magical atmosphere I have seen. It is a true adventure, I couldn't think of any way to make it better. It's a bit hard to put how much I love this film into words because much of it is centred around its position in my childhood. The Truffle Shuffle. The word to sum this film up for me is 'magical'.

Flight of the Navigator - "Sit down, navigator"

Another true adventure with atmosphere aplenty. I like it because of how cool it would be to fly a space ship like Max that could transform and so on. The intimidating setting at NASA seems to make it so much better when he gets away, and it's kind of funny to see a young Sarah Jessica Parker in full 80's-hair mode.

Big Trouble in Little China - "It's all in the reflexes"

Lo Pan is the ultimate villain. Half man, half ghost - he is a true badass. Again, another excellent adventure which takes the characters through all manner of different settings. The music for it is really memorable, too - and there's also an easter egg reference to the film in World of Warcraft - you can get a trinket called a 'Six Demon Bag'.

You picked some classic movies :-)

Karate Kid 2 - "live or die man"? die "wrong, honk!!!"

National Lampoons European Vacation - "Hey look kids, there's Big Ben, and there's Parliament"

Teenwolf - "I'm not a [bleep]. I'm... a werewolf"

No doubt I can think of a few more tho!

bloodsport <3 even though i was born in 1989 :x

Doctor of Dental Surgery-2014

Medical Doctor-2018?

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon-2024?

Forgot these :) :

Pretty in Pink - "That girl was, is, and always will be nada!"

Gremlins "Whatever you do, don't feed them after midnight"

Ferris Bueller's day off - "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it"

tattoosigva4.th.png

Gremlins 2 was clearly much better than the first movie. The first film was more of a genuine horror film and the Gremlins were really nasty and killed people. In the second its more of a spoof of itself and whiles the Gremlins clearly did end up eating at least some people in the movie most of the stuff they do is more mischievous rather than nasty.

Warner Brothers want to make a 3rd one too. I really hope they dont go down the CGI route tho or it would be a disaster. It'll be the CG yoda all over again :shame:

You freakin' legend. I thought I'd be the only one to play that game ^_^

I love 80's movies! A lot of my favs have already been listed (Goonies, Weird Science, Breakfast Club) ...I never really thought of them as "cheesy", but now that you mention it, I guess they really are. Here's some more:

Romancing the Stone

Cloak and Dagger

Wargames

Missing in Action

Toy Soldiers

The Running Man

Plus some that I think are intentionally cheesy:

Top Secret

Better off Dead

Ice Pirates

Spaceballs

Tron

My Stepmother is an Alien

Little Shop of Horrors

omg the 80's freaking ROCKED!

God yeah, and that cheesy theme tune.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

I'm not really into that stuff, it's okay, but I don't make a sport out of watching it as much as possible really. But to mention one that hasn't been mentioned: The Golden Child was pretty cool.
