caligula101
Anybody ever had a near death experience? If this topic is inappropriate I guess it will have to be locked but anyway post your near death experiences if you have been lucky enough to have them. Mine was when I was on holiday last year (2005). My mum, brother and me went down to the beach. Now it looked pretty rough (im talking about the ocean) so me and my brother were thinking "awesome!". There had been a mention on the news that there was a hurricane about 500 miles away but nobody had said anything about not swimming! Anyway me and brother ran and jump into the ocean and we wade out not to deep but we could still both stand. A few waves come, we're not surfing we just enjoy battling the waves. Anyway all of a sudden a huge wave crashes over us catching us both by suprise. We look at eachother and shout something along the lines of "cool" or "awesome" don't remember. Then I feel myself being sucked out and wave after wave crashing over me. I look out onto the beach and see my mum shouting for us to come back in. I start swimming as hard as I can against the current but to no avail I just keep getting pulled out further. I've lost sight of my brother. By this time what I can see of my mother she looked pretty fraught! Well I eventually run out of energy practically and im using every last drop of it to fight the ocean. My feet are just touching the sand and im using all my strenght to head towards a group of rocks connected to the beach. I'm worried about cutting my foot, but then I think "screw it" im about to die who gives a dam. I had just about run out of energy and kept swallowing salt water. I thought I was going to die. Somehow there was a gap in the waves and I manage to pull myself up on the rocks. I look behind me and can't see my brother. Then suddenly he body surfes near the rocks I grab him and hoist him up. We walk onto the sand where my mum was (she very angry at us) and I fall over flat on my face in the sand  I was fine, just through sheer exhaustion my legs had given up. I have nightmares about this even today over a yearlater. Anyway anyone on tipit ever had a near death experience? If this has been posted before or not allowed I apologise. Pandaman115
You probably did the worst thing possible in that situation. :uhh: Never fight a rip tide (think that's what it's called), just let it suck you away, then go to the left, and swim back. The rip tides pulling you out, if you get out of it's current, you're safe. [Admin Edit: No naming names in a negative light]
ctp080188
That is very scary, I wouldn't have known what to do either. I don't think I've ever had a "near-death experience" per se... My dad once put a firework rocket pointing towards our house, and all the.. fire? shot towards us... Yeah don't think I would have died but could have been burned lol. That's probably as close as I got. SHH HUT YUH MUH. DERKHED.

Ragen
I've had two near death experiences. The first was when I was pretty young (don't know exact age, I was probally 6/7/8) on holiday in france. We were at the beach and I was playing on the lilo in the sea. I remember lying on it and I fell asleep. I woke up pretty far out, must have been 200 meters. I paniced a little bit as I was scared and I could feel myself drifting so I started to swim back. I stayed on the lilo as I didn't want to put my feet in the water. I managed to swim back to shore after about 10 minutes of swimming and then I really paniced. I couldn't find my parents and I was on a beach full of French people. I just ran in the direction I thought they were and found them after about 20 minutes. When I look back now I don't think I knew how much danger I was in, if I had been in a strong current or if I had fallen off the lilo I would have been in real trouble. The other time I've been near death was when I was I was about 9/10/11 (again not sure of my exact age at the time). I had been riding my bike really fast down a gentle hill when I went off the pavement into the grass verge. As I tried to mount the pavement again, my bike slipped on the wetgrass / jammed on the edge of the pavement and I fell off. I put my wrist down to stop me and that broke, then my head smacked onto a rock. If I hadn't been wearing my helmet I'm in no doubt that I'd be dead. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!

Bubsa
I've had 2. This, taken from the earliest memory thread: Must have been when I was 2 and a bit, when I drowned. I don't remember the resucitation (sp) but I remember the going under part. Hence my aquaphobia >_< And another time I'd rather not go into actually. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

Auto-erotic Asphyxiation!!! *Pats Bubsa* There, there, buddy. It happens to the best of us...Well, not really...But it happens. Other than boogie-boarding in South Carolina and having a shark swim within arms-length of me, I haven't really had any near DEATH experiences...I have crashed my bike plenty of times, but I was never near death...Though I did get knocked out cold one of the times and woke up with a nice little pool of blood on my face. :P The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me! I fell of my board and it started to float away. THe current was pushing me back, but I kept on swimming against it, after about 45..50 agonizing seconds I actually managed to swim against it. I was shaking when I got out of the water, all out of fear :ohnoes:
hasnol143
Yeah I had one too about years ago when I was just a kid. I was waiting for the school bus with my dad and the bus was late so i decided to play around for a while on the other side of the street, then i hear my dad telling me to come back cus the bus is comming so I started crossing the street with out seeing the car coming and when i looked at it it was too close for me to get away. It's a good thing that the car stopped just when it touched my leg (It didn't hurt me) and my pants caught were stuck with the car lol. So I maded out alright i was a bit scared an i was grounded... :( for not looking before crossing the street. But at least i maded out ok \
SanFranciscoGiants
I have 2. First one. I was boogeyboarding on the oregon coast and got sucked into the water for what seemed like forever but finally i got out. Second one. I was riding my bike to school along the bike lane my and my freind were racing the cars going down the street and the bus comes along and just avoids me by 6 inches (literally). No_OnE
When I was like 5, some kid who was a little crazy (to say the least) ran after and swung a 2x4 at my head... It came about an inch from hitting me too... This is one effed up kid. In kindergarten, he got expelled because he stabbed a kid in the hand with a knife... Bloodmourn
About three years ago, a friend and myself left band practice to go grab something from my house. We were crossing an intersection with no stop signs when someone else came shooting around a corner and slammed into my side of the vehicle hard enough to throw my buddy's huge luxury car into the air and off the rode. I blacked out for a moment, and when I woke up, my side of the car had been pressed so far in, I was quite literally sitting directly next to the other guy. If I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt, I have no doubt I would have died.
jak722
I was playing with bubbles when I was a kid. I made a bucket full of em with detergent. I was using a straw to blow the bubbles, but I accidentally drank a fairly large amount... I was sick for almost week and for at least 2 days I was puking with blood... *shudder* The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

Oy_the_Great
When I was 10 my room wa re-decorated. All plugs were uncovered, and I (despite knowing it was highly unsafe) put both of my fingers in the plug. Good thing I also knew to pull them right out. But I did not know that your muscels go into a massive cramp, so you won't be able to move them. I then put my fingers in the contact and WHAM, I felt like I was hit by a baseball bat all over my body. It's so painful it doesn't hurt. The next second, the safety came into action and electricity was shut down. I've never tried something as idiotic afterwards again. A second time was while driving my bike in the city, I wanted to pass a bus that stopped to pick up passengers. The road, lots of traffic at that moment, is only about 6 metres wide and there was traffic on both sides. So I decide to pass that bus, because it did not seem it was about to continue anyway. Halfway, I notice another bus from the opposite side coming straight towards me. So here I am, trapped between a bus that's about to start and that didn't see me and on the other side driving cars with a bus right behind them. I don't know what to do; stopping would be folly, the bus to the right of me would start and run me over. Continuing would mean the bus coming towards me from the left would hit me. So I continued. The bus to the right of me starts, does not see me riding on the left, trapped between the traffic. The bus from the left then spots me and swings to the side and that must've warned the busdriver to the right of me who finally notices me. That situation was likely more dangerous than putting your fingers into a fuse. If the busdriver on the left did not make his manoevre, I'd be hit by either that bus, or the bus on the right would've run straight over me. Oy_the_Great
Absolutely. It was frightening, but at that moment I was very calm and I was thinking incredibly fast and clear. That instant moment seemed to last an hour. It's amazing what the human body can do when it's in grave danger. issy2
Well. I was out riding, with just one other person with me. We were near a road in a large open park. The road was quite busy, but luckily we were quite a long way from it. I would say I'm quite an expierienced rider; I can gallop (just about!) and jump 3ft. But I'm not very strong, and they'd been lots of dogs yelping, which really upset my pony. The last straw was when a car backfired in the road and he reared, then ran out into the road. I fell off to the side and nearly broke my shoulder. I don't quite know how but my pony managed to step on my helmet. Thank god I wasn't hurt and he was tiny! Later on there was a dusty hoofprint on my helmet and a large dent. For sure, if I hadn't been wearing it I wouldn't be typing this.
