Near Death Experience?

caligula101

It wasn't really near death but it could of been.

I got stabbed. Nothing to serious like, but it was apparently like 1/2 inch away from a major artery. If it had hit that, i probably would of bled to death... :? But luckly it didn't so meh.. lol. But there was alot of blood. It just kept pouring out. Plus blood stains clothes terribly :x

Hmm.. so that was my near death experience.

The thing about rip tides that a few people mentioned ...

That happened to me once surfing, but I had taken classes and knew exactly what to do in the situation. I just let the current carry me until it lost strength, then swam out of it and went back to shore. Even then I was about a mile from the shore, and without the support of my surfboard I probably would've given up from sheer exhaustion.

My only real near death experience was as follows.

There had been a rash of burglaries in my neighborhood, and one woman had been hospitalized from a knife wound given to her by the burglar. At this time I was 15 years old, and already cautious to the point of paranoia. Every night when I came in I'd pull out my pocket knife and do a round of the house to make sure nobody had gotten in. Well once it actually paid off ... I was home alone, watching a movie, when I heard a noise outside. I dashed to my front door (it was a one story house, so not hard) and looked through the peep-hole. I saw the silhouette of a man cast by a street light, trying to squeeze under my garage door without making any noise. My house is arranged such that my front door is 15 feet from my garage door, with the living room between them, and the garage door coming off the laundry room. I practically leaped from the front door to the garage door and twisted the dead bolt, not two seconds before the person in my garage turned the knob and threw his weight on the door. Now my house is really old, but the doors had been reinforced with those little metal pegs you put in to stop them from being broken down. The criminal in my garage fired a freaking GUN through the lock on my door, the bullet grazing my right arm. I jumped back, though, and whipped my knife out of my pocket. The burglar, about 6 foot 3 inches, maybe 210 pounds, slammed through my now disabled door and charged into my house .. directly onto the point of my 4 inch hunting knife. I had stabbed him under the the rib cage and forced the knife upward, piercing his liver, right lung and heart. Although he died almost instantly, I made sure the last words he heard were, "Big mistake ...". Of course I called the police, they came and removed the body from my house, took me in for questioning, etc, but the old woman who had been stabbed identified the man I'd killed as the same one who attacked her, so I was more praised than punished. silly persons will think twice next time ...

The above story ^ is absolutely true. I still have the cicatrix on my shoulder from the bullet. The reason this counts as a near death experience is that, had I moved a few inches to the right, the bullet would have gone through my lung, and my parents weren't home for hours after that, so I'd have died lying on a pile of dirty laundry, the TV still playing in the background (assuming it wasn't stolen).

Would make a nice action movie, but for some reason I don't believe a word of it.

Happen to know where I can find a news article to show this story is true? Surely you know the name of the man you killed.

Well... I fell off of a 25-foot bridge one time. Long sotry short:

Family reunion in California. We were camping on my great-uncle's mountain (he owns a logging company, so he owns about 100 sq. miles of northern california). There was a little bridge over a creek, which the bridge was just wide enough for a car to go over. The creek had eroded its bed quite a bit, and was about 25 feet below the bridge.

I was waiting for my turn to ride the one and only bike there (which was the only fun thing for the 10 kids to do at this reunion). I looked at the edge of the bridge, and saw a 4 inch high peice of wood running along the edge. I decided I'd try to balance on it. Heh. Smart.

I had gotten about half way accross the bridge, when the girl riding the bike came up behind me, and said, "I don't think that is too smart, is it?". I, thinking there was nobody around, had the crap scared out of me by this sudden voice. I swung around, and not thinking, stepped right off the bridge.

It was one of those cartoon moments, where I felt like I was hanging in mid air, waiting for gravity to kick in. And bam! I was falling a split second later. I looked around, and saw a twig right above me, and by instinct, grabbed it. And I fell 25 feet onto a massive pile of sharp rocks, holding a twig. :-w

Next thing I know, this girl is looking over the bridge at me. The bike was also looking over the bridge at me... and was hanging a bit too far over. Watching the bike fall through the air was not fun... especially since I couldn't move. KA-WHAMO.

I managed to limp back to the camp fire, and tried to hide from my mom. Ehh... didnt work so well. I managed to make excuses to not go to the hospital... but for about a month afterwards, my ankle hurt. Other than that, just some major gashes from the bike.

If I had gone down any different way (i.e. not feet-first), or had been a foot or two to the left or right... I would have been impailed onto smoke [bleep]ey rocks. :ohnoes:

Also, at a camp one time, we were shooting some rifles at a target range. Some noob next to me didnt know how to use it, and picked the rifle up, swung it around becuase he didnt expect it to be so heavy, and "accidentally" pulled the trigger. Bullet missed my face by about 6 inches, and slammed into a wooden post next to me. I heard the whistle from the bullet. :wall:

Needless to say, the kid got sent home, at parents expense.

I've had 2. This, taken from the earliest memory thread: Must have been when I was 2 and a bit, when I drowned. I don't remember the resucitation (sp) but I remember the going under part. Hence my aquaphobia >_<

And another time I'd rather not go into actually.

I used to drown so much when i was younger that my mom would just call to my sister and have her pull me up like it was nothing lol  (that could also be the reason i have such a phobia, though i love swimming, i cant stand thinking whats on the bottem of the lake and i cant dive because..idk)

near death experience... hmm.. more like a near really badly got hurted (yes i know thats not proper but it sounds funny) experience: My friend and I were riding on his things, he had his Quad (four-wheeler, atv, etc)- one of the really big ones that they use to do chores in their woods, i was riding his little dirtbike, well, he slowed down or i accelerated, i dont remember, but somehow we got really close together until i literally had my wheel touching his back end, so i use the brake but i forget to let go of the accelerater thingy :-s and so i keep going with him, but i finally somehow pulled away from him, at any time i could have fallen forward by either hitting one of the bumps in his driveway (he has many large ones), or pulled under, then thrust into his tires or something quite bad. (sorry about the run-on sentence, i do that sometimes.)

Happen to know where I can find a news article to show this story is true? Surely you know the name of the man you killed.

I live in a small town outside Houston, Texas. Things like that don't really make national news. Houston is such a big city that you can watch the news and hear about 3 murders before you finish your coffee.

I do have a bit of a penchant for drama, though. The facts of the story are true, but I embellished one little bit. I didn't really say, "Big mistake ..." to the man. My heart was pounding so fast I nearly passed out from fear, so I didn't in fact say anything. I'm not trying to make myself out as a casual killer. I had nightmares about the encounter for weeks.

And to the one guy who said, "Hah, a knife against a gun?!" or words to that effect, in close quarters a knife can be just as deadly, and he didn't know I had even that since the only shot he fired was through the lock on my door. In fact, in this situation a knife may be even more deadly ... I'm a 3rd Dan in Kendo. :-s

My greatest ambition is to kill every member of the human race.

hehe. i love telling this story.

i've had like. over 2

ok. well. we keep a rifle outside of my parents room. and so one night. i hear someone opening and closing a car door. (i'm an insomniac)*sp* and i look out the window. at first i see one man. then i see two. they crack the locks on my mom & dad's car and take just about everything out of it. i go outside the back when i hear them going into the side through the garage. and because the car was so busted up, i just simply opened the top of the hood and start to tamper with the cords and everything, with the rifle in my left hand. i get out my knife i had in my athletic shorts and cut like every cord i see. i start to hear them getting inside. so i'm like holy crap. one of them was a mexican without a shirt on and the other was a black guy with a do-rag on. they both had guns. so i begin to close the hood. i go back around the back and i look inside. they start unplugging my TV and say we got this [cabbage] dude. i'm like no you don't [bleep]...(i've had run ins with gangsters before. but i talked my way out if it. even tho i was scared as hell.)i was about to piss on my self. and all of a sudden i see them bringing my TV outside, without their guns =] they're grunting, and pushing. still being very very very quite. they set down the TV and i run up to them fast. with the rifle in my hand, cocked and everything. along with that i tell them to put their hands up. i tell them that i've [bleep]ed their car, and that they can't use their car. so theyr'e like oh [cabbage] dude this kid is [bleep]ed up. i'm like hell yeah. so i tell them that i'm going to call the cops right now. theyre like as soon as you put down that damn gun were gonna [bleep]ing kill you. in the back of my head i'm like pissing on my self. i say that if they move while i'm getting my cell outa my pocket, i'll shoot them. there like holy [cabbage] dude this kid is [bleep]ed up. i reach in my pocket, and one of them moves. i drop my fone, with 911 already connecting and ringing. and i'm about to shoot. then they say sorry! sorry! i kneal down with my gun still aimed at them i hear the 911 operator on the line. i say hello, i've got a problem here. i have 2 burglers in my driveway with my rifle pointing sraight at them, do you think i could maybe get some police here? she says that they'll be there as soon as possible. i reply saying, well, do you think they can hurry, my arm is getting tired of pointing at them. i'm still realy realy calm somehow. and she says yes. i'll tell them to hurry. i see on of them about to run and i yell no! don't run! i'll shoot you! they come back and pull out a knife. i say drop that [cabbage]! drop it [bleep]! i'm about to pull and the guy comes storming at me. the 911 opperator hears a gun shot and hears a moan from the guy. she asks what happens i say he tryed to stabb me. bring a ambliance too. i laugh and tell them my adress and all, while i just pissed on myself. i shot him right in the right shoulder. the other guy takes off. i tell the guy to come back. and he does. my dad comes out in his boxers and says what the hell are you doing! i tell him to go and get the baseball bat, and pistol's that the dudes had. and so my dad does. my brother walks out and he's only 9 at the time. so i tell him to go watch tv its nothing. my dad comes back out. and has both of the pisols. he tells me one of them is broken, and the other is opperational. i'm like both of you guys are idiots. bringing a broke gun huh? the guy that i shot is like dude this [bleep]in hurts laying on the ground. i'm like realy? hmm i wonder why. why did you come at me when i had the gun? then i hear the cops & ambliance comeing around. at first the cops point their guns at me. and i drop my gun. they point at my dad and he drops his crap too. they get the guy that i didn't shoot in handcuffs and the other guy on a strecher with his legs handcuffed.

from what i heard both of them are still in jail. we've moved now tho. and changed our names. so. no tracking us now =] but when we moved, we had too drill out the blood on the driveway. and had to compleatly repave the driveway.

yeah. grammer/mispelling. but what am i a 40 year old, no.

thats one of my storys now. i don't feel like telling any others, thats my favorite.

Interesting topic, i enjoy reading these lol. But anyways back on topic, I don't think I've exactly had a near death experience...? Consider me very lucky i guess...Probably closest to it was when i got a concusion after falling on skates when i was about...9?

Edit: Oh nevermind i just remembered i had a nearer death experience... When i was born the doctors thought i wasn't gonna make it (2 months premmature ftw) and i have athsma so yeah, the doctor said i wasn't gonna make it and said it was a pure miracle that i actually made it out quite healthy. My uncle was there, and he always tells me how strong i was coming out to survive something like that.

Ive had heaps, but i'll only post one for now.

I was snowboarding in july at perisher and i was going down a double blue in blue cow (pretty steep terrain). Anyway, i was going fast down what i thought was an easy run, when the run bottlenecked then dropped off onto a very steep course. I had no idea it was like that and because i was going fast when i hit the drop off i had absolutly no control once i landed. Instincts kicked in and i tried to stop by turning my board horizontal and i hit a moguel. I flew through the air still horizontal and landed just infront of another moguel. My board cut the top layer of snow off and dug into whatever formed it and got stuck, so i flew through the air. Wouldnt have been too bad except i was very close to the edge of a run and fell off a cliff, about 11 metres high or something. I was VERY lucky there was lots of powder down the bottom otherwise i wouldve definatly died. It took me about an hour to climb back up and i was very freaked out.

something along the lines of that happened to me, I was canoing with my m8 and we went into some really tough rapids, the rapids were fine because we had alot of experience with canoing. Anways, we are going down a narrow path of stream (10-20ft deep) (5 ft wide) When all of a sudden this huge tree falls over across the entire path! We were unable to dodge it and we both hit it and the canoe capsized, I got hit in the head and I sank straight down. The current was very strong and I traveled about 50 feet underwater. Luckily I somehow woke up and realized what happened, so I struggled to reach the top and I barely made it, gasping for breath then I realized my glasses has fallen off :( so I got to spend the rest of the canoe with my awefull 20/400 eyesight.

When I was 5 or 6, not sure, my mom came to check on me. She kissed me on the forehead, and as she says that it felt like "It was on fire". She woke me up, and I was screaming, so she called an ambulance. I had appendisitus, or how ever you spell it #-o, and so I was rushed to the hospital. All I really remember is waking up in my bed, and then waking back up in the hospital. They said it was really bad, and could've erupted or whatever your appendix does, when it's infected.

a little bit over a year ago ( im 16 now ) i went snowboarding on a school camp. About a group of 40 of us. Yeah anyway we all started at the bottom course. Its very safe not steep at all and theres no way you could injure yourself. Anyways about 2 hours past with me and my friend snowboarding down there and we decided we were getting pretty good at it. Theres 4 levels at the mountain we went. The highest 1 being the steepest etc. Me and my friend decided to try out level 3 (stupid i know) so anyway we take the chairlift up there and we see all there "good people" doing all these badas tricks going down. Theres alot of corners on this course so you have to be going quite slow because there are alot of drops etc. Anyways i decided what could happen so with my friend still up the top i go flying down going fast as ( keeping in mind ive only been doing this for 2 hours ) I go flying around a few corners and its all goods. Then i go around this very sharp corner and as i go around i notice im heading straight at some people. I see them and swurve out of the way straight into a bump in the snow. I go flying out of control and towards this cliff. I start sliding down but just as im going down i grab onto a rock on the side of the cliff. The cliff would be well over 20m tall with nothing but a very steep hill that would go right down to the bottom of the mountain. So im hanging there for about 10 seconds slipping and the people i almost hit run towards me and pull me up. i got up and im in fright and all all soar i had a broken rist but thats about it. If i hadn't have grapped for something or if i let go i would have died forsure.

in my case I always manage to get myself in danger climbing mountains...

I've been close to dieing a few times but the time I most paniced must've been this one:

So I was like 14, 15 years old when me, my family and a dutch friend were visiting some natural park here in Spain.

It was pretty dam boring walking over the sandpath and looking at some rock formations, animals, lakes and whatever you see in nature :P

We had found a way to amuse ourselves though, we'd look for shortcuts othrough the mountains to have a bit of a challenge and even save time ( we still had to wait for the rest of the family afterwards so not really :P

Anyways we climbed up a bunch of mountaintips and went down onthe other side a few times when suddenly the path was making a huge loop around one, so we're like: we'll go through :)

My brother hooked off ( too scared I think ) so me and my dutch friend went and had a look.

the quikest way would be a horrid cliff leading straight to the sand path below, don't worry though we are't crazy enough to jump down a.... 20 meter cliff with almost 90% incline :P

so we walked along the cliff crossing some little mountaintips to find an easier place to acces the path. We kept going and going but no better places showed up, what do we do ? turn around and walk after them ? not really an option.... we'd be slower then them and would've failed the challenge.... may sound stupid but for those 2 reasons ( and of course the adventure ) we decided not to turn around :P

So we kept going and going until we found a part of the cliff with some trees and bushes growing and less inclination as well. So we decide to go down through there and wait for the rest of the family.

We start climbing down the steep hill and are doing fine except for lots of scratches from the branches. then we come to a place of a.... maybe 2 meter dropdown. me being like 1.8m tall at the time wasn't really planning on jumping even only 20cm on such a steep hill with about 15 meters of solid rocks below and only a 30cm wide ledge to stand on. But after looking around for other places we had no other way to go by. So we went down right there. First we look at it from all sides deciding what would be the best way to, after a while I decided I should just hang myself on the rocks and drop myself down those 20cm onto the small ledge, it goes fine and I feel alright holding onto trees branches because the ledge was too small for me to stand on without falling down.

so while I'm on the ledge it's my friends turn to come down. Him being a bit smaller it was an even worse jump for him and as soon as he was hanging on those rocks he started fearing and didn't want to let go.

We stood there for a few minutes thinking of what to do because I had to admit that from where I was there wasn't really a way down except for some spined bushes on once again an incredibly steep ledge. So he finally decides to drop down but after hitting the ledge he falls and I could only just grab onto his arm with 1 hand, I had to hold on to the tree with my other hand, so he grabs the tree as well and we manage to set both ourselves back onto the ledge just fine. But then it got even worse, the tree just let go of his branches and we had to grab onto the mountainhill because there was no more tree to hold on to.

So there we are, on a small ledge holding onto (well more like pushing ourselves into) a vertical mountainwall hoping not to fall down, my first plan was to grab my cellphone and call my family, only problem was I had to use both my hands to make sure I wouldn't fall so the phonecall was going to have to wait, so now we both fear death and didn't know what to do. the bushes didn't really look stronger then the tree and we didn't want to rely on their roots to hold onto us. But the only other option was jumping down even more then we had just did. After like 10-20 mins of consideration we decide to risk the jump and after easily putting my [wagon] down onto the ledge I push myself off and land on a rock like 2-2.5m below. My feet hurt but I am ok and I now have a place to stand on without the risk of falling down 10+meters. I think it's time to call the others :P So I call them and get a terrible bad connection ( [bleep] phone companies not covering all those mountain areas :( ) Anyways I get to talk to my brother and told him a place of the path where he could see us, the connection between cell's goes down but after a few minutes I can see my little brother down there =P

He sees us and notices the difficult position we're in, we ask him if he sees any places for us to go down by, and he yells to us the best bet was to drop ourselves down through some more spined bushes and more or less rolling through [cabbage] downhill from there :P I'm not really fodn of the idea but at least we would get down. So by that time the rest of my family had reached the place and they keep on walking the path yeling at us to catch up with them when we get down.... As you understand they weren't at all worried about us =P

So I tell my dutch friend to also jum down to where I am and from there on we managed to get down to the path covered in scratches and needles/spines :(

Ah well we made it out without falling and after like 5 minutes of running we caught up with the rest of the family, by then we didn't care about going a bit slower anymore :P ( at least not for the rest of that day :-w )

Thinking back it was actually a great adventure and whenever I see mountains to climb I just can't resist doing so...
